Edit : Posted this in tactics by accident. Thats my bad)

Say I want to take the inquisition chimeras and slam vets in them to utilise the 5 firing hatches, how can i work it out.

From what I can see I can't just take chimeras since it seems that I absolutely need to take a squad of acolytes concidered elites to utilise a chimera. Then it would become an elite dedicated transport so I technically wouldn't be able to slap troops in an elite transport..

am i over thinking this and going full derp?

Yep, Full Derp. The Chimera may be a dedicated Transport, but it may carry any type of unit (size and Ally status permitting) regardless of FOC slot, the fact it is dedicated just means that the new unit cannot start inside the Transport at deployment. Example. I take an Inquisitor Retinue and deploy the Chimera on the table empty and the Retinue squad somewhere else......totally legal deployment! The Chimera may now be used for any Battle Brother force such as my Grey Knight strike squad, only the Strike squad must start outside the Chimera at deployment and must use their movement to embark inside the Chimera as normal.

Above is truth, and that is a perfectly viable idea for special weapons
