Alright, heres the deal. We have been planning this battle for awhile that will be happening as soon as we both finish the last squad or two from our respective lists.
Its my grey knights vs his necrons. I am wanting a few pointers for what specials to take or tactics to use as he has played a lot more 40k then me and im a bit rusty.
Heres my general list, not counting any wargear/special gear.

hq:
Librarian rank 3

elites:
Venerable dreadnaught

Purifiers

troops:
strike squad

termys

heavy supp:
dreadknight

transport:
rhino

Any general tips on what sort of models I should look out for from necrons and what sort of tactics I should use with my lads.

Thanks to anyone who helps in advance!

Hmm... Disclaimer, I'm not the best GK player here by a long, long shot but:

-Your Dreadnought and rhino might get glanced to death really quick like by his gauss weapons (ie normal warriors)

-If he runs Decurion (which is likely) his guys are super hard to kill, frustratingly so. They stand back up (resurrect) before the leadership test post close combat, so even though you would have won combat by say 5, if most stand back up, suddenly that leadership test is passed.

-Wraiths are quite nasty in close combat, the 3++, T5,S6, two wounds, rending attacks, speed and high initiative make them one of the better close combat units around. They can also get stand back up as part of the Canoptek Harvest formation.

-Shooting: most of his shooting will 24", but so is yours. Don't expect to outshoot him at these ranges. His Destroyers/Heavy Destroyers will outrange most of your shooting (36"/48") but you can take them in CC.

-Air: Crons can run a lot of fliers and anti air is a serious shortcoming for GK.

To counter him, you might want to run the nemesis strike force, and swap the strike squad/rhino for interceptors, another dreadknight, or termies. The first turn deep strike, run then shoot could get you a turn two charge. Depending on the mission, deep striking into a flank and trying to mulch through his units could help to limit the amount necron "stand back up" while their shorter ranged shooting has less effect on you.

Best of luck.
