I cant believe how small ghazkull thraka is "in person" aka the model. The pictures made him look huge and just wow hes a little dude. Any other models that you were surprised how small they were when you bought them?

Space Marines in the fluff they're about 7-9 feet tall (on average) yet as a model they're only slightly taller than a Guardsman. GW's scale isn't that concurrent with the fluff.

To be fair, he's still pretty big considering he was made back before the new meganobz and most of the other large vehicles/walkers for Orks. It'd be a nightmare to think how assembly would be for him if he were bigger and metal. I know Azhag was bad enough when they first released him in metal, wouldn't be as bad for Ghazghkull but that lump would rival a dreadsock in terms of pain.

it's just an older model, before scale of similar things went up a bit, he's also pretty heavily stooped in that pose

Ghazghkull is also at least a fifteen year old sculpt.

Exactly this. He was sculpted in the older scale when miniatures were much smaller. Relative to them he is enormous, and he's still pretty big as it is.

If he was released today he would probably be as large as a Deffdread.

I got one of those "Not-Tau" character models and was rather surprised by overall scale being rather smaller compared to my fire warriors.

Compared to most of my stuff though with Ghazkull
