Frost Grave/Mordheim/Realms of Chaos/Witch Hunter

Its all Guerilla Miniature Games fault.

I have always loved fantasy skirmish games, going all the way back to hero quest. Mordheim was always a favourite and a while ago I got hold of the realms of chaos books. When age of Sigmar hit I got a bit excited and started thinking about Mordheim again but other stuff kept getting in the way.
I recently watched some bfg battle reports on Ash’s GMG channel and saw he had some battle reports for frost grave. I decided that although its always going to be a slow background project that I would start making some of the fantasy conversions I have had planned, some of them from when bitz ordering was still a thing. As with much of what I make I will be aiming for multi duty models that can be used in Mordheim, frost grave and realms of chaos, it wont always work but that’s ok, I just want to make some cool stuff

Bruticus’ throne of bones is an excellent thread where warbands of undead in a huge catacomb complex fight for the rights to a throne of power. As ever my own Mordheim projects weren’t far from my mind whilst reading his plog and so I ordered some vampire bits about three seconds after leaving his thread.

The recent GMG Youtube mojo meant I finally busted them out of their boxes and did some quick test poses

This guy will be a vampire (doh!) in Mordheim and a knight in frost grave or a vampire encounter.
I have plans for him on a horse as well because it should look a bit more imposing, hopefully frost grave will include rules for mounts at some point

This guy is something I have wanted to make since the new krell came out, he is based on my username, radu lykan, its the name of a character from the necroscope books, hes a mix of werewolf and vampire and he likes to think all the other vampires are scared of him. With the quick head swap he works as a vampire for Mordheim and a templar for frost grave

This will end up as a thief for frost grave and another vampire for Mordheim. Wanted to do a lahmian but one that in the heat of battle has dropped the facade of beauty and let the beast come out to play

Actually did a bit more than a blu tac test pose on this guy, obviously still early wip but am extending his robes to give him a similar sized silhouette as the other vampires, he will represent the necrarch bloodline and be the wizardy leader of the vampire warband for frost grave. Am aiming for a floaty ethereal vibe with him to reinforce the magical aspect because wizard

Whilst looking in the shed for the vampire stuff I came across the parts I bought ages ago to convert a load of wheel of time characters to slot into my fantasy empire. A quick bit of sawing and more test poses happened

This is my templar for frost grave. He’s a bit tall at the moment due to the angle of the cut but I kind’ve like the idea that hes a monster of a man

This is my knight for frost grave. Currently thinking the spear head needs to be a bit beefier? The shaft seems too thick for such a dainty blade? Also needs a nicer shield

This lovely lady might stay a hired sword for Mordheim as she doesn’t fit the professional soldier look I am aiming for with the human frost grave warband. Am considering magnetising her right wrist so she can make the journey from archer through tracker to ranger in frost grave if I don’t find a suitable replacement

My rand al thor fire wizard is mounted on a horse and I painted him a loooong time ago. So long in fact that the pics arent on my pc or memory stick. I will try to dig him out at some point for pics but the horse rules him out of frost grave for now so a newer version on foot might be in order, lets see what eBay turns up.

Another possible Mordheim warband I have done minimal work on was bretonnians, a while back I found the old white dwarf game full tilt. A quick conversation with my brother in law led to a challenge, paint up a knight in your family heraldry then they can duke it out. This petered out after we bought a box of knights but a similar community thread on the ammo bunker forum led to it getting rekindled and actual paint happened! Found out I don’t like painting white cloth and he got shelved, hopefully this plog will see him finished. My fluff for his warband is centred around a future witch hunter(fantasy inquisitor) campaign so am currently thinking he will get a dismounted model so he sees more use.

hoping to have some fun with this, if anyone else wants to post anything similar they are doing in here i wont mind stealing your ideas

Excellent stuff here loving the Harlie based Vampire!

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

cheers guys

my realms of chaos, path to glory started a little while after reading PDH's Realms of Chaos thread
i badgered somebody to lend me the ancient tomes and created a champion and retinue for each god.
to give me a bit more flavour to work with i gave them each two god specific rewards and 2 attributes along with 2 rolls on the retinue table each.
first up is my champion of Slaanesh.
i rolled a human wizard but have since changed him to a dark elf wizard so he fits in with my khornate champion a bit more.
equipment happened, flail, mace, light armour
he obviously got mark of slaanesh
two slaanesh rewards- Horns of slaanesh and hermaphrodite
two attributes- mane of hair and CHAOS LORD!
this led to 4 more attributes, cloven hooves, evil eye, vivid skin and prehensile tail
got some stat increases as well as an extra magic level, and a daemon sword
his sword contains a lesser daemon with bulging eyes, massive intellect, breathe fire, long nose, goat face and 4 arms
retinue rolls including chaos lord extras gave a total of 13 wolves, 3 dark elves and 2 minotaurs
I had decided before rolling that i was going to stick to the results no matter how uber or sub par they were unless fluff dictated a small change, i did consider scrapping him as this guy is going to be a powerhouse but i did all the rolls, thats a lot of dice!
although concerned about him wiping the floor with any other warbands i decided to stick with him, i guess its just the beauty of the random
this is yet another early concept with too much blutac but am after opinions on a possible donor for his tail? have decided his mace will now be a slaanesh rune wielded by his tail so keep that in mind

my khorne champion didnt roll chaos lord :(
Dark elf hero with 2 swords and a crossbow
mark of khorne
khorne rewards were aggression bonus and frenzy
attributes were strong and elastic limbs
retinue 9 humans, 7 beastmen and 3 ogres

having recently received a second winged vampire lord for a mounted version of the vampire knight above this guy got started on, he was the one i was least inspired by and yet he was the first guy i started modelling, the legs were just sitting there as were two humongous swords...... in a flash of inspiration i just stuck him together and liked it, he reminded me of the description of a powerful commander from a book i read a while back and so Argastos took miniature form.

anybody who has read the right book will know that Argastos has more than a bit of moth in him and so am considering giving him some moth wings, any ideas for a donor model?

with the themes of the book coming back to me the worminess of the slaanesh champion kicked my brain and so an extra torso was added and their back story became one of kin strife.
favoured first born is a warrior of note, rising to command the families army and generally being popular/awesome. the weak younger brother becomes a mediocre wizard and resents his brother. years of this lead to the overlooked brother making friends with the daemon sword and eventually selling his soul to slaanesh summoning daemons and other followers of chaos to teach his family a thing or two, after they are all murdered he sets off for the realms of chaos and his search for daemonhood. when argastos returns he goes mad with revenge, praying to anyone who would listen for the power to destroy his brother and all his followers. up steps khorne and now the moth chases the worm. hopefully one day it will get written properly but for now it will do

These are looking like serious fun, which seems to be what Frostgrave is all about as was Mordheim. Really enjoying seeing this lot develop!

Whilst I was gluing the daemonette bodies together for the worm I saw that some rather large gaps were forming on his/her/it's back and set out to find something that might cover them rather than me try to sculpt something, I partially managed it, remember that i rolled mane of hair? I dialled that up a bit and ended up covering the entire back in hair, it's hard to get a decent pic (my lamp packing up makes it even harder :( ) but the hair has given 3 sets of pseudo wings which I like.
Horuswaspretty also gave me some sort of nid tentacle for the tail so cheers Horus

Still a lot to do but feeling good about him/her/it

Also managed some time on my nurgle champion
Human hero, heavy armour, spear, flail
His nurgle rewards were rune of nurgle and trail of slime
Attributes were rearranged face and hatred of "good" stuff. Due to the mini back story I have floating in my head I am also applying the fear good stuff attribute

Anyway pics

Adding the nose and eyes was fun, was a bit disappointed when I rolled rearranged face but like the Saturday morning cartoon villain head he has ended up with

Started adding pustules in some of the joints

Need to find my chain to sort the flail and am considering some wings to try to balance out that giant head, any thoughts?

Ii have been working on a new captain model, this guy will be magnetised to represent the captain of a mordheim warband with dual double barreled pistols

the captain in a frostgrave warband with double handed weapon and crossbow

Any ideas for additions before I finalise the build?

been trying to concentrate on tanks, am getting there but keep wanting to just grab random stuff and stick it together for realms of chaos, horuswaspretty(brotherinlaw) was fiddling about with beastmen for his warband so the temptation was great but i persevered. once horus went home though i cracked and started work on modelling my tzeentchian champion

human wizard with mark of tzeentch giving him extra attributes
his magic item was a chaos weapon with skeleton horde, savagery, singing, mighty strike, levitation and illusion
his tzeentchian rewards were a magical storage familiar and the reckoning of tzeentch
attributes were warp frenzy, crystalline body, birds feet and an extra head

i have puzzled over a way to do the two heads thing for quite some time(these were all rolled at the same time many moons ago) never finding two heads that looked right next to each other or a neck/torso that could hold them, last night whilst looking at the horrors srprue inspiration struck and the gaping maw of the horrors screamed the answer, a head within a head!
the heavily muscled torso will hopefully enable me to try to paint the glassy effect for the crystalline body mutation
the bird feet make him look really gangly which i like, considering tacking on the silly walk attribute

so here's where i am at with the pantheon so far, need to possibly add undivided and or malal ?

Really cool looking figures you have there. had to take a second look at the crossbow guy as the telescope he has on his waist looked like a really poorly placed scope on the crossbow, but it all worked out.

my tzeentch guy above rolled a familiar but for some reason i never got around to rolling its attributes, with the "it came from ......" comp on yaktribe i rolled up growth x300%, fast and silly walk
due to life i managed a few little sessions on it and took a photo each time but had no time to get on a pc to post them so theres a few all together
these are the bits i started with

added some glue

figured he was a bit small compared to some of the champions and so added a bit more length to the torso

as i am magnetising his hands so he can be a modular possessed for mordheim i startred on a tentacle, also randomly found some feathers that i liked and put them on the head

the fast trait and the movement increase, even with the decrease for silly walk make him lightning speed on the table, decided wings were needed, he didnt actually roll flight but might add it anyway. excuse the paerclip wing supports, they are not permanent additions

Your GS skills are amazing. That's a cool looking familiar, what colors are you thinking of for him? Bright Yellow ?

yes, i am pretty good with a press mold bright yellow will be included

have been tidying it up a bit, have added flickers of flame to the wing tips because tzeentch, for the same reason a few eyes were added but they are hard to make out in the pic, hopefully paint will make them more "eye" catching

this guy is looking kindve goofy but some of the old realms of chaos stuff had that sort of vibe?

fantasy stuff has been on the back burner, with a possible frost grave game in August I have begun work on a captain model, barbarian and a crow master for my vampire warband.
I am after some input on the captain, I am hoping to magnetise his left arm so he can change his load out, due to the small contact point on his right arm I am trying to decide between an axe and a sword and then stick with it. Basically which looks cooler from the variations below?

Axe and sword

Axe and shield

Sword and shield

Two swords
Also, any thoughts on a ranged weapon for vampires? The whole crossbow bolts and arrows basically being stakes feels wrong?

A simple head swap has given me my barbarian

And the start of some wood work allowing my crow master (bat mistress?) to detach her flock

Also got hold of an old familiar to use as a necromancy themed summoned imp

A rough size comparison
