Back during the kickstarter campaign I fell in love with what I could see of the fluff and I've devoured all the literature and short stories that have made it through from the chaos of the Edge. And until the rule book came out I figured the Karists would be my hands down favorite. Then I started reading about the Remnant's Champions. A cross between a spec ops team, space Marines, and friggin gladiators!! That just sound awesome! I'd watch that as a movie let alone build a fire team of my own. And i love the idea of poring back story and time into a literal handful of models and caring a out how each one performs and if each one dies as he fights against overwhelming odds or solos an angel. The picture in my head is fantastic!

Anyways, besides gushing I guess the point of this post is to encourage others to talk about what part of the game or the fluff you are most excited about coming out/getting received. Lets have a nerd-splosioun people! Also, any other medgeheads in the CT area? Would love to find somebody to escape from the edge against

I also thought the Karists would be my favorite, but from the novels they seem a bit bland. I want more Ultra Orthodox and less Reform in my crazy space religions. Haven't read all the rule book fluff, but it sounds like the Broken will give some of my space communists a good home.

I'm not really sure there's such a thing as 'the' Karists. Especially from the rulebook fluff it seems to me there's plenty of schisming and 'well that's your opinion' going on within the Karist faction and between the military / religious / whatever else branches. You know, as religions tend to do. Plenty of space for an ultra orthodox force if that's your preference.

I'm really curious about what the Tragunite Host and the Kaigus are going to look like, as from the fluff they seem quite... different. The Broken will be really cool and I also hope there will be some more on the exploring side of the Epirian Foundation, something linking to the background of Kyle from the books.

I agree. I think they left it open on purpose for each faction to be as noble or villainous as you want. Desperation brings out the best and the worst in people. Especially here on the edge

When I was writing/editing the fluff for the rulebook and for Maelstrom's Edge in general, giving players that flexibility in how they play was one of my main motivations. When I collect, paint and play with an army in a wargame, one of the biggest draws for me is being able to shape the narrative of my force, to make the models in my collection feel like a unique group of characters, special to me. I love coming to a tournament and seeing a bunch of armies of a faction that have all been interpreted in a different way, with custom leaders and iconography. It also makes blue-on-blue battles between the same faction much more interesting!

So whilst we have tried to craft compelling core characters, factions and events in our 'canon' stories, we hope that people will be inspired to make their own interpretations of the factions that call to them. The multipart plastic models are obviously really great to help that - I've already starting converting characters out of the Medge test sprues I've got.

In the novels we chose a group of Karists and a main character that are debating what their faith means because that conflict of motivations makes for (hopefully!) a more interesting character arc and a better introduction to the faction, but there are plenty of other possible interpretations to the Karist faith that I hope I get to see on the tabletop - I'd love to see BobtheInquisitor’s fanatical Ultra Orthodox Karists face off against Zafah's more humanitarian group - the possibilities for different conversions and paint jobs would be awesome!

Read the first two novels in the Maelstrom's Edge Universe now:

Maelstrom's Edge: Faith - read a sample here!

What caught my attention was the Tragunites. Hive-mind liquid-based symbiotic aliens that live in coral and fight inside of armoured fishtanks? Awesome.

Also the Comm Guild is cool. Makes me think of ComStar with those sinister undertones of information control and clandestine warfare.
