Yeah,
Here’s where I'm at with my Maelstroms Edge terrain set

I used bits and bobs from the hardware store.
The idea was to find items that had repeating shape/design.

I selected a few electrical boxes and several rain gutter joints (turned upside down).

First I made electrical box buildings.
I tested where I wanted doors and windows using Blu-Tac

I then simply drew the shapes on with a felt tip pen and hacked the spaces out!

ArbitorIan popped around to help with the rain gutter buildings

We used foam core to cap the gutter ends, Foam being easier to cut this is were all the doors went.

Ian made a template and cut 20 copies
We then made another template for cutting out holes for doors

I used a electric sander to rough up the shiny plastic surface on the rain gutters so they would accept paint.
I attacked four of the rain gutters with a Dremel to make destroyed buildings.

We attached a few details to the roofs of these buildings to create a theme across the set and break up the empty areas.

We made a few small walls with left over bits.

We sprayed everything with Army Painter 'Uniform grey'.

Doors and windows painted in block colours with GW foundation paints and washed with GW inks.

I used 'Plastic Solder' weathering inks to do the bulk of the weathering on the grey walls.
Amazing product, but missing on their web store... hopefully back in stock soon.

All of this was made using 6 sprues.

The terrain so far spread out on a 6x4 table with my S6 canals.

My Games and Gears board will be painted soon! (I've already half started)

Awesome stuff Panic! These buildings are great- they're generic future (and so work well with all sorts of games), super cheap, and actually look pretty damn good!

I've been quite impressed with that terrain sprue, it's got some utility.

Really fantastic stuff, will definitely do something similar I think. I was planning on making my buildings entirely from foamboard but I think that will be too much work. Using the guttering as the building core is a fantastic idea. Where did you buy the gutter supplies from, out of interest?

Agree'd these sprues work for any future space game, Maelstroms edge, AVP or infininty... I can't stop picking up items and wondering what it could be if covered in Maelstrom bits!
I have a quality street box on the table looking at me screaming 8 sided bunker!

The trick is finding something easy to cut And durable.
The guttering works amazingly because the foam core end bits were where all the cutting was done is super easy to work with.
And the different connectors have the same shape size/theme.
I bought some at wicks- The Bits were like £2-4 each.. I had some in the shed and picked up a few more instore and ArbitorIan brought some round ones! (I've not used those yet.)

I think the best thing is to have a good rummage around to see what you can repurpose!

What do you use to glue to the plastic boxes?

I imagine plastic cement and super glue do not work...

yeah,
Hey guys I added four new buildings. took some photos as I went!

Materials and Glue!
For these buildings I'm using two of The awesome ME sprues.
£15 - https://www.maelstromsedge.com/medge/store.jsp?p=8

And the main bit of 'junk' is Everyone's favourite Xmas left over..
Quality street boxes; They have a great 8 sided shape and for years I've been saying they would make great Sci-fi buildings!

Quality street boxes are very Tricky to cut, awkward, Green stuffed all the aweful edges,

ready for Paint!

With the two Quality street boxes suitably detailed; I had all these bits left over so I grabbed two round gutter connectors.

I sanded down the quality street plastic so it accepted paint. (should have done this first)
Paint time!

Basic block colours and weathering! Super quick and table ready!

Four buildings for £15

£3.75 each!!

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

yeah,
I played a quick 1000pts game of 40K today with ArbitorIan on the new board.
We didn't use the canals.

++
My Grey Knights vs ArbitorIans Astral Tigers

Ians Astra Tiger are cunningly camouflaged on my board! weird.

The Tigers seize the initiative and strike!

Grey knights try to slow down the AT dreadnought.

The Astral Tigers keep the pressure on the GK.

The rampaging Dreadnought, assaults the GK Warlord Libby.
They both kill each other, the dread finally comes to halt!

My DreadKnight turns up and the Astral Tigers open fire!

He casts sanctuary ++ Perils of the warp, rolls a 6 ++ he becomes mega powerful!
He casts Force ++ Perils of the warp again! rolls a 1 ++ and is overcome by the dark things that live there.

Turn 5
I only have 4 GK alive, they move onto and hold an objective

Ians Tigres Surge forward!

Is there another turn?? NOPE.

Game over no more turns.
Grey Knights have 1 objective plus slay the Warlord.
Astral Tigers also have 1 objective plus first blood and Slay the warlord!

Grey Knights 2-3 Astral Tigers
First game on the new terrain done!
