Been looking at some nurgle daemons to add as allies to my main army, and I REALLY like what I see in the beast of nurgle. It seems like it'd be a pain in the rear to kill (which is what i like in nurgle units, how tough they are to kill), and seems to offer some pretty nice support with attention seeker.

But being the noob that I am to chaos in warhammer 40k, there might be some details i'm not noticing that could make a unit not worth its points. So I'm wondering, what are everyone's opinions on the beast of nurgle? Is it a nice creature to add to an army? Or should I consider something else?

The problem is that they are a bad CC unit which is where they want to be. They are only hard to kill in the shooting phase because of shrouded. In close combat they don't have any defenses other then T5 and 5++ meaning they will take damage from most units in the game. They don't have a lot of killing potential because of their inconstant number of poison attacks with no ap so they have a hard time winning combat which means they take more wounds from Daemonic Instability so they take more damage from close combat.

The only thing Beasts of Nurgle can do is be an expensive tarpit but because of Instability they can't do it for long with out spending a ton of points on extra bodies.

I wouldnt say they are exactly bad in combat imho they fill a similar role to what Nurgle spawn do for chaos marines

Spawn work because of how cheap they are for how many wounds you get and can buy T6 making them much harder to wound and practically immune to instant death (basically makes up for the lack of 5++). You can greatly supplement their lack of offense (which is inherently better then Beasts of Nurgle because of S5 and the mutation table again for much less points) by adding a brutal Chaos Lord on bike/juggernaut meaning the spawn unit it actually win combat unlike BoN who don't have am IC like that to add to their unit and as such will lose combat and take more damage from Demonic Instabilty (which Spawn don't have meaning Spawn can actually be an effective tarpit).

Fair enough ive never actually used them.due to how much itd cost me ££££ wise to get a decent size unit of them. Obviously the same psychic powers which would help them out would probably be better else where

I absolutely hate the models, they are horrendous but the beasts do make an excellent tar pit if used wisely. They are very hard to kill and very hard to shift off an objective. I use Titan Forge Descendants of Decay instead of the GW beasts just because they are much better looking.

If beasts were poison +2, they would be a bit more usable, at least for stacking wounds on stuff. However with random attacks, WS3 and poison 4. You might be lucky to get 2 wounds on something. Plus they are crazy expensive and vastly overshadowed by plague drones.

Slime trail is boss, as is attention seeker, I just wish they were on a better unit.
