Hi everyone,
JP here - the new sales & marketing guy for Spiral Arm Studios. I thought I'd quickly jump in here while they sort me out with official access to the
SAS account to say hi, and let you all know a little about me and what I have planned for
MEdge both in terms of getting the game into as many new players hands as possible as well as growing the already fantastic community of Maelstrom's Edge players the world over.
First off a little about me - I've been a wargamer for over 30 years, starting out as so many do with
GW stuff before moving on to a variety of games such as Kings Of War, Black Powder, Bolt Action, X-Wing and many more. My current addiction is D&D 5e, including the Adventure Boardgame System games (currently painting up the Temple Of Elemental Evil set). I've written background and fluff for Mantic Games back in their early days (the Twilight Kin and Corporation product text was me, as was the first novel Bloodstone Of Cerillion), and I also freelance write for Gangfight Games, developing their gameworlds for what was Blackwater Gulch and Mechadrome, but which is now becoming a single set of skirmish rules, for which I'm currently writing a fantasy supplement.
But enough of the other games; what about
MEdge? Well, I wasn't fortunate enough to fully take part in the
KS but I threw in what sheckles I had spare as the background captivated me. In fact it was the image of the agriculture ship fleeing the maelstrom which really grabbed me and I've been following ever since. And now, nearly a year after I was drawn to the apocalyptic vision of a galaxy being destroyed system by system, with survivors either fleeing or fighting amongst themselves for what little scraps remain, I'm lucky to become part of the team that brings Maelstrom's Edge to a whole new generation of gamers.
Now part of my job is sales, and all that really means is getting the game into your local game store and supporting them in growing the player base in their area. Support of the game and the stores that choose to stock it is a big priority for me and the team and is something I will devote a lot of time to. I have some pretty cool ideas as to how to do this, but for now my focus will be on finding the stores willing to take the game on.
Part of supporting the game is having a clear and dedicated area for gamers, painters and background fans to come and discuss Maelstrom's Edge, and while this forum will always be a strong foundation and resource, with so many other great games vying for people's attention here, the posts could get lost. Especially as I envisage a lot more people coming into the
MEdge community when the game hits retail. That will make moderating easier, and free up some time for those that moderate here on Dakka.
To that end I've created a Facebook Group for the game
https://www.facebook.com/groups/MaelstromsEdge/
I've found that
FB groups are really simple to use, it's easy to post pics from your phone of your latest models or terrain, and it's convienient to keep up to date with the latest goings on. At present there is literally just myself and my fiancee - who also loves the game [I think she's going to be an Epirian player] - so I'm hoping some of you will come over and say hi and start posting.
So that's about it for now. I'm going to be writing content for the website as well as for the
FB page and Group, with lots of pictures of my own models (Karist Enclave - I love those Adult Angels!) along with painting guides, terrain making tips, and posting some scenarios, battle reports and club and store visits too.
I look forward to chatting with you all a lot more over the coming months. I can be contacted via
PM either here or on
FB. and my email *should* be linked in my profile.
Also, don't forget the
MEdge FB page,
https://www.facebook.com/maelstromsedge/?fref=ts which I'll be using quite a bit so as not to spam the forums as that's where a lot of the retail news will be so please, head over and give it a Like. If you're not a
FB fan (and not everyone is) please, please, please keep posting here, and I'll be coming in as often as I can to make sure I'm not missing any questions you may have. I'll also be creating a newsletter which I'll send out with roundups of all the latest news, releases and upcoming events. This will probably be once a month to begin with - I've so much to do as it is!
Cheers
JP
