So I was in the process of bringing back my SW and make a thunderdome list by converting some of TWC into Iron priests. Now this new codex came out and I heard that Iron Priests are HQ choices now instead of elites.... furrrk
Now the old SW codex is still on sale on the GW website, can I still use the Wolves Unleashed Detachment in the old codex which allows me to bring up to 6 HQs?

Yes
But you'll need other Elites choices.
That said, Servitors are 10pts?

Or heck...TWC... Aren't they elites?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Wolves unleash does not require elites as a mandatory. 2 HQs and 2 troops, with the options of 4 more HQs.
Iron priests are even better now at 2 base wounds for only 20pts more. There are a bunch of new formations in the new codex but i don't think wolves unleashed is in there. I just want to confirm I can still use that detachment before I bring 4-5 IP list to a tourney.

Can I get a confirm that the new book released is a redone codex with a few formations thrown in but the Fenris of Champions Supplement is 100% viable?

All supplements are valid. The 2014 SW codex is still THE codex, and is still on sale on GW site. The Wulfen edition codex is suppose to be a update but does not wholly replace it I believe.
I'm gonna run CotGW detachment:
4xIron Priest with TW
2x Servitor

Wulfen edition is a new codex. Mostly minor changes (I.e. Vehicles in squadrons) but some significant ones (replace Wolves Unleashed detachment with Wolf Claw Strike Force). I'd check with opponents before running the Champs supplement detachment, especially since one of the new formations is called "The Champions of Fenris."

Not sure if the new edition suppose to replace the whole codex, if so then GW should of took down the old codex already. I think it might just supplement the old codex with new formations and updating certain units such as the Iron Priests.
Even if it is a complete new codex, all supplements should be valid... For example when GW release the new SM codex, they stated that Clan Raukaan supplement was legal to use with the new codex.

I'm just saying I would check with opponents and/or organizers before planning on playing with the detachments out of the old(er) Codex or the Champions supplement.
The SM supplements didn't have the same issues. Sentinels of Terra and Raukaan give some extra relics and a little CAD manipulation. The actual name of the SW supplement now appears as a unique formation with the same command benefits of the CotGW detachment. The new "Greatpack" has the same command benefits of the older "Wolves Unleashed" detachment. Its a very different situation and heavily implies that they have been replaced.

From GWs website in regards to War Zone Fenris: Curse of the Wulfen: (Bold section relevant to this thread)
Book One: Saga of the Lost is a 120-page narrative campaign, filled with stunning new artwork, telling the story of Logan Grimnar’s Great Companies and their fight to retrieve the Wulfen - and the Chaos Daemons who seek to take advantage of their divided attentions. Book Two: The Rules, clocking in at 88 pages, contains new Echoes of War missions tying in with the narrative, new datasheets, wargear and special rules for both Space Wolves and Chaos Daemons, and brand new formations including six Greatpacks - all of which are designed to update and be used alongside Codex: Space Wolves, along with awesome new environmental rules reflecting some of the strange and bizarre battlefields of the 41st millennium!
Appears to be a supplement to the already existing Space Wolves rules...

Yep exactly I read that too on the GW website, but for some reason people keep saying it replaces the old codex in the News & Rumors thread. Its a update and not a replacement is what I'm trying to say....

Well generally the updates ARE replacements. For example the 7th ed codex updates rules in the 5th ed book. The 7th ed book also replaces the 5th ed one.

In that case when a new rule book or codex comes out , the old one usually get taken off the shelve on the GW website usually weeks before the release.
SW codex is still on sale

Most people are just playing semantics with you.
It's an update to the codex, but not a new "edition" of the codex. Namely everything inside (possibly barring the Iron Priest) is still legal and fair beans to use. As far as I know, the Wulfen edition just consolidates Warzone: Fenris into the base Space Wolves codex.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

The space marines got an entirely new codex and all the old supplements like Sentinels of Terra and Sons of Medusa are still valid. Eldar as well. (Iyanden)
