Hello friends!

One of the first things I did when I started the hobby was buy some starter box armies with my brother, one of them was the new faction the Tau.
These models were assembled, painted, loved and then forgotten.

My aim was to revive these models by stripping them of their layers and layers of paint and convert them into individual feeling characters.

Here is my first model:

Spoiler:
Remain cautious brothers.
We are far from the birth worlds and I fear this incursion will not be a routine one.

Cheers for looking!

Looks like an interesting project. What kits are you planning on using to mix up the Tau bits?

Cheers man,
The legs here are from the high elf archer sprue, and I like the look they give so I'm definitely going to be using more of them.
I also have some ideas for some guard and eldar parts. Nothing outlandish just some things to add in a little flavour.

Here is a sample of the type of paint job that I had enthusiastically slapped onto these models. They did not look too horrible on the table and I still don't mind the scheme, but they certainly weren't quite photogenic.

This rejuvenated model features a new top-knot from the old chaos marauder kit, and a new radar as the old one was damaged in the stripping process.

Spoiler:

While it is a minor system, I still don't understand how we were unable to detect anything for so many generations while we were exploring and populating the surrounding sectors.

Here is another Firewarrior, made with the body and legs from the devilfish kit.

Spoiler:

Of particular interest are the abandoned dwellings, primarily made of iron based alloy and bonded aggregate. The devices found within appear to be non-functioning

Cheers for looking =)

Here are two more firewarriors, the first with a backpack from the catachan sprue and the second with an elf archer torso.

Spoiler:
The indigenous colony is still reacting hostile to our communication probes. We are unsure if they are the cause of the radar shadows.

Cheers for looking =)

Great kitbash man, I always think conversions are a great way to making your army look unique. Even better when your conversions are so seamless people think they're an actual kit!

Thanks kakita, converting is also just so much fun.

Finished another two firewarriors, enjoy!

Spoiler:
There are some fingerprints of the Imperium here but it seems they have not made any contact for eons.

Thanks for looking =)

Finished 2 more Firewarriors, one of them being the Shas'ui of the squad.

Terrific conversions! The long coats and cloaks fit the Tau really well, and you seem to be very skilled with greenstuff also. Brilliant work on the Firewarrior who poses with his hand on his hips. I like your paint scheme as well!

Thanks Mcmattila, not sure if you are still active on Dakka three years later, but I appreciate your comment!

I never liked the extra pointy helmets of the pathfinders and so I wanted to find an alternative. I made a test mini using a head from an Adeptus Mechanicus Sicarian Infiltrator and I like the look so I will aim to make a whole squad in this style. I have also added pouches from the old Dwarven Thunderers sprue.

Cheers,

I like the look of the domed helmet. It would be an interesting way to convert gue'la forces.

Great conversions in this thread! For some reason I rarely see T'au conversions, yours are a breeze of fresh air.

Keep up the good work! Looking forward to seeing more pathfinders, and maybe some cool converted suits at some point?

cheers

This is my first time seeing this thread, and I have to say, these are all great conversions. I especially like the guys with the elf legs. Would make a great honor guard for an ethereal or something.

Please make more stuff!

That pathfinder is ace! Great idea of using that head, it looks very fitting. I might have to steal that idea.

Thanks everyone,
Yeah I am happy with the firewarriors but I was trying out a lot of different styles, I would love to see someone convert a whole squad just using the elf legs.
Glad you like the head swap too.

I also finally finished a squad of Kroot that I started in 2013.

These were part of the Tau starter box set with the Firewarriors and were originally completed in 2002, where they looked like this:

In 2013 after picking up the hobby again I stripped the paint and began to add components to give each model a unique feel/backstory. In disjointed bursts I finished a few at a time and sometime around 2018 I finished the whole squad. Some models got uploaded in my main project log but I hadn't taken any pictures of half the squad until yesterday.

Shield

Scope

Rhino

Scythe

Pack

Teeth

Axe

Fire

Guard

"

Bow

Marine

Sidearm

And here is the whole squad. They were originally completed in about a week in 2002 but took over 5 years to finish the second time round.

Cheers,
