Doctrines: Grenadiers, Drop Troops, Veterans

HQ - 177 pts

Command Platoon
JO
4x Plasmaguns
mounted in Chimera w/turret ML, hull HB, and pintle Heavy Stubber

Elite - 150 pts

2x Hardened Veterans
min squad size w/3x melta and drop troops

Troops - 668

4x Stormtroopers
min squad size w/2x Plasmaguns
mounted in Chimera w/turret ML, hull HB, and pintle Heavy Stubber

Total: 995 pts

The basic premise of the army is mobility.  All the squads move in their transports and drop to deliver rapid plasma death.  This combined with the dakka-liscious Chimeras should take care of any and all infantry.  The dropping veterens should make short work of any tanks, which hopefully won't be very numerous at 1000 pts.  I'm still not sure what to do with the last five points, maybe Iron Discipline?  I'm not sure it would be useful in this list.  Anyway, I'd like to hear what you guys think, thanks in advance!

you can oly take 0-3 grenadiers so you have one squad and one chimera extra add a Leman russ or just add storm troopers and change them to elites

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

#1. You need some heavy support to drive them closer to your plasma guns. Otherwise, most armies can just hang back and out shoot you as you drive up. If you add basilisk, nothing makes them come closer to you.

#2. In your HQ you don't need all those plasma guns. Heck, that is what your stormtroopers are for. Since you are really hurting for anti-horde firepower take flamers instead.

But this list does not look that great. An army must be unified of purpose. You either need everyone dropping, or everyone in a chimera. Otherwise your chimeras and stormtroopers will get shot up in the first 2 turns, then then your drop troops will.

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

I'm not so sure Blackmoor - The droppers are gonna die for sure so that's not a problem - they jump in, kill a tank and die - and five Chimeras at 1000pts isn't too fragile I don't think. I do agree that a Basilisk would be a nice addition though, but I don't think you'll have too much trouble getting to the enemy. Also, all the dakka on the transports, as well as the trooper's lasguns should mean that hordes aren't too much of a problem I'd think.

I don't have a massive amount of experience with IG, so I don't know how good my advice is, but I do like your list - it's not what I'd have thought to do with grenadiers, and the number of plasma guns is awesome.

Good luck with it!

The Hammer

Chimeras aren't really designed for drive-by work. If you want small, mobile plasma squads, Demon or Witch Hunters might be the way to go. 128 = factory Rhino + 5 IST packing plasma, 20+15 + 3(20) +58 =153 for elite level Inquisitor with combi-plasma and four warrior henchmen with plasma guns in factory Rhino, 193 for a Lord with the same setup plus two Sages (reroll some Gets Hot! misses) for the HQ, possibly shell out for Psychic Hood on the Lord and/or Emperor's Tarot on one of the Elite Inquisitors, and copy and paste for the rest of the list. You can also induct some boring old Armoured Fist Squads to get a little extra firepower (lascannon) and gain access to Improved Comms, or take your elite Inquisitors on foot sans retinue with Psycannon for a few more longerish ranged shots. (they can also hide behind the stormies, or hitch a ride in a Rhino by joining the squad)

If you stick to the IG codex for the same theme, I'd advocate running some Sentinels and giving one or two Chimeras Improved Comms. Though Sentinels lack the 12" whammy of veterans, 3xS6 @36" for 45 on the drop can be nice on flank armour, as well as cluttering up the board with other armoured targets besides the Chimeras. To clear up the points, probably the vets and heavy stubbers would get the old heave-ho.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

@ Skuller: D'oh! Thanks for the heads up, I totally spaced on that. I'll be changing one of the ST squads to Elite.

@ Blackmoor: In my gaming group, basically everyone except me plays an army involving getting close as fast as possible. That's the reason I wanted to do an army like this, so I could show them all that IG isn't just "sit and shoot". I agree that I do run the risk of getting shot up before reaching the enemy, but in my group and with careful use of cover, I think I stand a good chance. As far as flamers in the HQ, that's actually not a bad plan; I'm going to play a few games with each load-out to see what works. Cerebaton was right about the droppers: their entire purpose is to die, so I'm not too worried about it. I know from experience that a 75pt squad taking out a 175pt tank and then dying is worth it.

I appreciate all the advice and comments, although I probably should've posted this before buying almost all the models >.< I'm playing my first game with this list on Wednsday, so I'll be sure to let y'all know how it turns out.

@ Wight Widow: I'm definitley sticking to IG.  As far as the Sentinels, I'm not too sure; I've never had much luck with them.  I also want to keep the Vets, as I use the same loadout in my 1500 list to great effect.  I'm going to play some games and see what happens, and I'll keep your ideas in mind if my list bombs.  Thanks again!

Uh...you can have 5 storm trooper squads in your troops selections. 3 from C:IG and two from either C:WH or CH. The only differance is the equippage on the chimerae.

cheers
