A new day, a new time zone.

Hi all - I just relocated to Gurnee, IL, which is about equidistant to both Milwuakee and Chicago, so I'm hoping somewhere along that line on the map there are gathering of awesome gamers who are looking to throw down some dice for either 40K or Battlefleet Gothic.

I know a handful of people migrated to the pleasant prairie GW shop when Libertyville tanked. The guy who is running the Libertyville shop now is awesome I knew him when he just got out of the marine corps and was a hobby champion. I haven't been up there in a few years but id check out Libertyville and pleasant prairie shops. Libertyville has 6 tables which is huge for a GW store. Unique gifts and games in grayslake is weird and not great for miniatures. The other place id say would be Games plus in mount prospect. The crowd there can be pretty fickle though. It a very old store that's been there for decades. Chicago has one of the largest gaming communities in the world. Also check out adeptus windy city. They are a gaming club in the area and the majority of people who put together Adepticon. If you are willing to travel a bit I have a handful of other places you can hit that are decent, GW and non GW to get a pick up game of 40k. BFG is going to be more rare but if you hit up AWC you should be able to get a game

Depending on the type of game you are looking for, there are about 10-12 of us in the far western burbs (centered around Downer's Grove and ranging out 45min from there) that play Gentlemen's 40k at lower point levels (1-1.5k).

Currently, "gentlemen's" means the below:

Army Construction:
Armies must be built using 1- 2 detachments which can be special formations. An army’s primary detachment must adhere to the restrictions below:
1+ HQ
2+ Troops

In addition an army in total is restricted to:
0-1 Lords of War**
0-2 SAME UNIT*
An army may not include more than 2 of the same unit. For example I can include 2 units of Tactical Squads of 10 each, but could not then include a 3rd Tactical Squad. However, I could take those two ten man tactical squads and combat them into 4 units once I hit the table. This applies to all units including dedicated transports, HQ, FA, Elite, Heavy Support, etc.

*The list building restrictions allow for a third of the SAME UNIT for each additional 500 points. 1500 points you could then bring 3 rhinos, 3 tactical squads, etc.
** - If using a Lord of War in a game your opponent will be given an additional 1 victory point for every 200 points the Lord of War costs rounded up (250 pts would be 2 victory points) if it is destroyed during the game.

GAMES:
POINT LEVEL:
1,000 points – If before your game you would like to play a larger size you and your opponent can then agree to play a larger game. If your opponent does not agree to play a larger game the game will be 1,000 points.

SCENARIOS:
Games will be played using out of the book scenarios as agreed upon by both players (Eternal War or Maelstrom). If the players can’t decide on which set of scenarios to roll on, roll off and the winner chooses to roll on Eternal War or Maelstrom.

I used to go to the libertyville GW all the time. Then it just got lame going there. They just wanted to push you out of the store and it was almost empty

I don't travel to the stores anymore only play at home with a couple buddies of mine. My brother worked at unique gifts and games it it definitely is more centered around CCG especially MtG.

The pleasant Prarie shop wasn't bad but much smaller than the Libertyville shop. Not sure who is running it up there but Luke was pretty cool and super knowledgeable which always helped.

Anyway good luck and welcome to Gurnee! I'm in Beach Park myself (or wadsworth, our zip code likes to pick between the two.)

Libertyville will have had to get better simply having Nathan take over.

Hello,
I live in Antioch, I'm down to get a game of 40k on almost any week night or weekend. I don't go to any shops often because of lack of 40k players. Also 420 friendly.

A new day, a new time zone.

"What happened to the battlefield?"

"My nids got the munchies."

Updating this thread, I'm going to relocating to Schaumburg sometime in the new year. Anyone local to there or have recommendations?

The Red Top GW has been great, btw. Nate is definitely one of the best guys I've ever known running a GW.

We have a local league that hosts events roughly every month.
It's also a spot that people post to looking for games, showing off hobby projects, etc...

The Facebook group for it is:

Hey I'm going to be moving to Milwaukee around June. I've always enjoyed painting my miniatures but honestly haven't played a game since... 2008? Hoping to get back into it. Hope there are some local gamers I can connect with

Yea as an update the Libertyville GW has definitely gotten better with the new blood running it.

Haven't played a game yet still worling on building this Eldar army. Might have some interest in getting a local gaming group hoing though. Preferrably with mature adults being that I'm 31 and don't really have the patience to deal with TFGs.

Man, I hate to break it to you, but age doesn't always bring wisdom in terms of not being TFGness. XD

Bumping this thread now that the holidays are well and over. I'm up for trying to arrange a game if anyone else is.

Here's an interesting fact for you guys- before the GW Libertyville Store, there was one in Gurnee Mills! The two first GW stores in the Chicago suburbs were located at Randhurst Mall (gone) in Mount Prospect and Gurnee Mills. Good times.

You can find me in the Chicago Tiki Room, where the drinks are always strong but don't taste that way!!!
