Hello Dakka! I am new to this forum and also quite new to painting so sorry for the low quality.
Anyway here it is!
PS - Sorry for the sidewards-ness (If that is a word) I was taking pictures on my Iphone
What you will need
▶1 Pringle Lid
▶ 1 Smart Water Lid (Optional)
▶Foam (about 1
cm in width)
▶Cork Board
▶ PVA Glue
▶ Hot Glue Gun + Glue
▶Fine grass (The stuff you use for bases)
▶Spirally Shells (1)
▶ Flat "Clam Shells" (1 Large, 1 Small)
Paints + Brushes You will need
▶ 1 Large Dry Brush (Preferably not from
GW) I say this because or else it will take ages
▶ 2 Browns (1 light, 1 dark)
▶ 1 Yellow (What ever shade you want it)
▶ 1 Gloss (Or water effects but Preferably Gloss)
So first, you will need to get the Pringle Lid and the Foam, sadly my local store doesnt do 1cm thick
foam but hopefully somewhere near you will!
You want to get a hot glue gun and stick the pringle lid to the foam.
Secondly, you want to get lots of Cork Board and start tearing it up into sizes of 1 inch-ish
make it random so it looks more like its spruted out the ground! Or landed! Depends on what you want
your tyranid Spawn Pool fluff to be!
Thirdly, You need to stick the smart water lid to the foam, and put the cork board all over it so
it looks like its errupted out the ground and/or crashed. I cant explain so here is a picture.
Next, you want to spray paint it, then you want to lightly paint it with the darker brown, make sure
you dont get it on the shells, or it might be ruined, but not far from salvation, if you want to make it better
re paint the shells black so it looks like the dirt never touched them. Except if you want it to look like that,
its up to you!
Next, you want to go around the edges of the Cork Board in the brighter shade of brown so it looks like
dry around the out side like it is pushed up from the ground and or landed (
I know i have said that alot, but
thats what its supposed to look like!)
Next, you need to dry brush the shells with the yellow,
It will look green, but this makes it look good when we later add the moss, it will make it very good!
Next, you want to get some PVA glue and make lines of it, so we will put the grass on later!
The grass is messy, so be pepared with a tray
Next, Get the grass and put it all over the model where the pva glue is, dont worry you can put the grass back in
to be used later but just be aware this is messy!
Next, get the shells and paint them black and put viens of your color over them, these are going to be the tyranid
shells which are forming.
Next, glue down the shells to the spawning pools, as these are going to be the tyranid shells which are forming.
Next. THIS IS THE HARDEST STEP!!! You need to get your gloss, and mix it with yellow, just make sure
they are both water based or they wont mix well, you then want to put in the gloss inside of the pits, and dont worry if
you get some on the side, i think it looks better like it is erupted.
And now your done! This is a great way to make a tyranid spawning pool out of basic everyday items! (
Except Gloss )
