Ye olde 6mm project is now open! This project started sometime around 2015, and has since then been delayed endlessly. Comprising of one IG army and one Nid army (using non-standard models, and the Net Epic Gold ruleset), I will be setting myself up with a 3,000 pt vs 3,000 pt playset for that mythical occasion that I should find an opponent.
This is the very first model of the army, a 28mm Tyranid Warrior to be used as an adapted Dominatrix:
Spoiler:
The army list that I will work towards is a work in progress, but looks like this atm
Going to irritate you would a Hive Guard make a better looking Dominatrix or a Zoanthrope as it's closer in terms of rules?
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

If you need some comparison photos, let me know. I have most of the Epic and 40K Tyranid models so can easily take some snaps for reference. For what it's worth, I think it will be unlikely that you will find a direct 40K proxy that can be used; the scale difference is too great so legs, arms, weapons etc all look out of kilter.
Yeah, I'm not looking for an exact match, but anything with big spinal scales, a fairly gribbly looking head, six limbs and a phallic cannon somewhere will probably do.
Could do with a comparison between a SM or IG infantry, a Carnifex, the old Dominatrix model and anything you'd suggest as a useful proxy.

OK some quick and dirty shots then....
The problem is that the old Dominatrix mini, whilst being an incredibly ugly model, is also weirdly shaped. It is long and fairly narrow - it kind of puts me in mind of a mutated, distorted cow of some sort. Here is a front and side view of the model:
This is how it stacks up against other Tyranid Epic models and where it fits in size wise:
So, left to right, Carnifex, Dom and the two Bio Titans. As you can see, it is just shy of titan size.
In comparison to a Space Marine and two version of Epic Hive Tyrants:
So in terms of what to proxy, you are kind of limited. As I mentioned earlier, you can find 40K models that approximately match the model footprint and/or height but you'll find that the limbs and weapons look out of proportion and will look 'off' against the regular, actual Epic Tyranid models. If you can live with that, then my suggestion would be an old metal Hive Guard model as being the closest rough approximate. A 40K Carnifex is much too big. See below:
Apologies for the crapness of the shots, taken on my iPad with poor lighting on top of a reflective freezer top (the only space I had to hand!)
Okay! Lots has happened in the past two years that I'm not going to get into here, but, long story short, it cut my wargaming endeavours dead.
UNTIL NOW (give or take a few months)!
Tyranoids are back on the to-do list this summer, as is finishing up some psuedo-Guard models for fighting against. Luckily for me, Vanguard Miniatures has some new-ish stuff for me to work with, and the ruleset "Net Epic Gold" is finalised. This all means that I can re-inspire myself to get some models glued to bases and sprayed with a nice green once this academic year ends (I got into Uni now).
First order of the process was ordering... some MOTHERFRACKING CARNIFEXES!
I have no idea if they'll be the right size, but given that my Hive Tyrant equivalent stands at 22mm, this should be about right.
Automatically Appended Next Post: After some size comparisons and a quick relay between a couple of locations, I have determined that the aforementioned Carnifex sculpts are a little large for a 6mm scale Carnifex. However, they make for excellent Razorfexes...
I love big nids :3
Can't wait to get home from uni to restart the project.

Thanks for the links! I've been over the Vanguard stock multiple times, and found the Entomorph Incisors might be a good match for Carnifexes. What slightly bugs me is that they have a very good potential alternative Dominatrix, but I still like my version, so I'll stick to it.
As for Ground Bugs, those look like they could make some very nice Heirophants

Cracking looking stuff - glad to hear you have the opportunity to get back into it
To be honest think you couldn't have picked a better time. As you have said Net Epic Gold is a complete/stable ruleset and there are so many quality proxy producers around now (Vanguard, Onslaught to name but two)
Having returned from Uni, I opened up, built, stuck to bases, and sprayed green my collection of big gribblies!
Apologies for the low image quality...
Spoiler:
1x Dominatrix, 2x Harridan, 8x Hive Queen, 9x Razorfex, 24x Carnifex, and some 6mm genestealers for scale:
I tested the Dominatrix a little while trying to figure out the game rules. It's goddamn terrifying. So is the model when seen IRL, but this'll have to do for now.
Gargoyles are close to perfect Harridans - these need to be about the right size for carrying 20-30x 6mm gargoyles (models, not stands).
Razorfexes. They're like knight titans in the game rules, except they pretty much have a 4+ WBB roll. They'll look waay better when I'm finished with them.
So you're starting a 6mm nid army like "I love 'fexes, but how many is too many?" Well, 12 is too many. I have 24. Already feels like a horde, and I'm not even doing infantry yet.
My Hive Queen models. Could do with having something better, but they'll do for now. Surprisingly necessary to have 3-6 in an army.
The next thing for me to do is to paint all the carapace sections in black, then I'll break out the red for claws, scythes, weapons, and carapace highlighting. When all that's done, a dunking in Army Painter's varnish/wash thingy makes them look real gud.
