Hi all,

I'm trying to get my 1000pt IG army up and running by late june, adn I'm trying to decide on tanks. I already have one basilisk, and was planning to include a second, but found that I could save a nice chunk of change by purchasing the IG battleforce, which includes a Leman Russ. I know the general rule is to never field a single tank, because it will become the central focus of enemy AT fire... but what about in the case of fielding a basilisk and a russ? Preferably, the Basilisk will be hidden the entire game, so this would basically make the russ the only tank on the field, in regards to enemy AT fire.

Bad idea, or viable? If I went this route, I would probably add a second russ at 1250, instead of another basilisk.

Also, for what it's worth, this army isn't meant to be a super-duper competetive list... just meant for fun one-off games... I want it to work, and I'd like to win with it, but it isn't meant to compete on the same level as say, the 9-oblit IW army.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it will work for what you're going for. If you want to get more serious you might just want to try two russes. At 1000 points 2 russes is my default.  The Hellhound is probably our best bullet magnet though.  It might not hurt to throw one of them down to take some heat off...or put some heat ON!!!  Ha!  See what I did there!?  Like ... you know put the heat on... the enemy...forget it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Do not listen to the hype about taking a single AV14 vehicle, especially if you have other lower AV vehicles in the army.

I routinely take a single visible Russ in both my lower point IG armies and my footslogger Ork lists. It survives the majority of the games, despite being the focal point of enemy firing (although many games it fires very few shots, being shaken much of time).

The point is, it forces your opponents to change their game plan. They have to react to your Russ. Most players have a healthy (if a bit irrational) fear of Ordnance and will do everything to stop it, even if it means making some tactically poor choices.

Of course, that single AV14 vehicle really can help out if you add in any lesser AV vehicles into the army like Chimeras or Hellhounds. At the very least, you'll want to use the Russ someday, so I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it.

Just remember not to mount that Hull Lascannon. . .
