Haven't seen a post about this yet, so figured I'd chime in.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has come aboard Sony's Jumanji reboot, the actor and professional wrestler announced today on Instagram.

"It's official. We'll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my favs: There's games you play for fun...then there's games that change your life. Jumanji," he said.

He added: "Promise to deliver something cool and special...and not screw the whole damn thing up."

Honestly, this makes me sick. I fething love the Rock, but Jumanji is a classic. Nothing good can come from this. The only remaining hope I have that this project isn't a total gakshow is that they make it a sequel and try to distance themselves from the original, carrying over only the core story (the cursed boardgame).

I agree that a redo would be a meh from me.

Prequel or sequel would be fine. That game is very old. Show some Victorian Era players.

Sequel or Prequel I'm good with. Full remake wouldn't interest me in the slightest. I like the Rock but he's not Robin Williams.

I love the Jumanji story. Hell, even Zathura (Disney space knock off) wasn't half bad, though I hate Dax Shepard. However, I just worry Hollywood is just gonna throw money at this, screw it up, and then go "Why didn't people like our movie???"

You know, I'm not gonna complain about this. I liked the concept of Jumanji, but the first film wasn't that good despite Robin Williams' best efforts. I'd give the Rock a shot, if only because I feel the poor guy doesn't get enough credit.

Same. I believe Dwayne has mature more into a movie role now. I give him a chance

I really enjoy The Rock.

However...

This and the Baywatch remake seem like clusters and cash grabs.

I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends.

Three!! Three successful trades! Ah ah ah!

Excuse me I will gladly go on record and claim that was an Oscar worthy film. Sure, it was a family movie, but it had great actors, a good unique story, for it's time pretty good visuals, and overall is one of my fondest memories of Robin Williams. I dare say you have besmirched my honor, sir, and therefore invite you to pistols at dawn.

I like The Rock, and I think he is a good fit for this type of movie.

He does some pretty good drama roles, but then he also does a lot of family stuff. Say what you want about The Toothfairy or Journey 2, but I think he actually did a good job in these movies. The thing for me is that while watching him in these roles, he seems to be fully aware that he is haming it up for kids that are targeted by these movies and more than that he seems to really enjoy those kind of roles. I think he gets a kick out of these kind of movies, and that makes his roles feel sincere instead of feeling like sell-out cash crabs.

If this movie fails, I don't think it will be because of him.

I have always thought that The Rock had great comic timing myself, too.

However, Jumanji remake, nah. - I'd go for a sequel myself. Divorced dad, struggling to reconnect with his kids, buys a board game to have some 'good old fashioned family time' together. Kids are completely disinterested, bored, looking at their phones and all that.

The first dice is rolled, chaos ensues...

Then, at the end of it all, everyone learns the true meaning of family.

This. This would be an amazing set up, and something I think the Rock could really pull too.

I really do like the Rock, I just have a hard time taking him seriously because I view him the same way I do Nick Cage: no matter what movie I'm watching, it's still Nick Cage, not the character he's playing.

I really hope he pulls this off.
