JoshInJapan wrote:Oh, I hate it when that happens. In fact, that's the reason I prime everything in black these days-- lighter colors are more work, but missed spots don't stand out as much.
I can't go back to priming in black, I have a hard enough time seeing what I'm painting as it is!
youwashock wrote:Owl armor turned out great. Vitriol is a very interesting model.
Thanks!
Yeah, the Guild Ball range has a few of these randomly super-dynamic minis (Or at least it did before they re-sculpted everything, the current Vitriol isn't as interesting).
Was hoping to get things finished over the weekend, but it didn't happen. There's not much left to do though, so hopefully I can get them wrapped up this week.
Vitriol just needs boots, gloves and cane done.
Callis needs more tidying up, but mostly he needs trousers and pistols.

Yep, trousers are a must!
Got stuff finished.
First there's Vitriol (Guild Ball):-
Really pleased with this one.
And Armand Callis (Games Workshop):-
He didn't turn out too bad either.
Continuing with the Guild Ball stuff, next to the table is:-
Harry the Hat.
Plus a totally normal owl doing normal owl-ly things:-
This one's going to take a while I think.

Looks good, especially liking the damaged skin on the side of vitriol's head.
And on to kingdom of far too many fingers I see! One of the better painters around me rather likes them, and yes, will be a while, but they look great painted...

Thanks! I wasn't sure how to paint Vitirols scars but a dab of Red Wash worked pretty well.

Thanks!
So after staring at the Owl for several days and having no idea where to start on it, I set it aside to do some assembly:-
After all these years I've finally assembled all my Guild Ball minis! (Until they release some more...)
Brought the Owl back to the desk, still couldn't work out what to do with it, so I've returned to minis I'm more familiar with:-
A pair of Ambitious Survivors.

Been letting the painting slide a bit lately (Watching a lot of old Dr. Who instead), but I've finally finished something.
My latest Guild Ball guy, Veteran Rage:-
A fairly simple mini, but he turned out okay.
Here he is with OG Rage:-
Making slow but steady progress on the Ambitious Survivors:-
They're a complicated pair.

Thanks guys!
Painting is still going slowly, but I'll get there eventually.
The Female Survivor is almost done, just got to remember to glue the head of her poleaxe back on, the Male has a lot more gubbins going on, so he's taking longer.
I've also almost finished Pride the Lion as my latest Guild Ball mini.

Thanks! Yep, don't know if it was a separate piece or it broke but her axe head just would not stay on.
youwashock wrote:Good stuff. I like the lion mini. I think that without you, I may have never even heard of Guild Ball, much less seen their models.
Thanks! Yeah, I don't think there's many of us out there still painting the stuff.
I got stuff done!
Also my trusty camera finally started dying after over 15 years, and I'm still getting to grips with it's replacement, so picture quality is all over the place.
First I finished Pride (Guild Ball):-
He turned out okay in the end.
I also finished Mrs. Ambition (Kingdom Death):-
Less happy with this one, kept having to go back to touch up spots and I think it looks a bit messy as a result.
Mr. Ambition is still on the table, trying to paint both of them at once was just really slowing things down, but I should get him finished off fairly sharpish now.
Plus there's a new Baller:-
Veteran Honour (And Starla her assistance dog!).

Thanks! It is a nice figure, ran into some trouble painting her trousers though.
Got more stuff finished, yay!
First there's Mr. Ambition (Kingdom Death):-
I quite like how this one turned out, I think I did a better job on him than I did on his missus at least.
And I finished Veteran Honour (Guild Ball):-
Mostly happy with this one, I got a bit lost painting her trousers (I think she's wearing chaps or something), so the back is a bit of a mess compared to the front.
Got the next Baller on the table already:-
Veteran Greede and possibly Strongbox the tortoise.
Sigh, I'd been doing pretty well not buying too many minis this year (Apart from completing my Guild Ball collection), but now Warcrow has got it's hooks in me.
Already pre-ordered the starter set (So I get the Polar Bear man) and I want pretty much everything I've seen so far, even stuff that usually doesn't appeal to me like the Dwarves and Orcs.
Going to try very hard not to let this one gather dust on my shelf (Like everything else I buy) when it comes out in a couple of months.

Mr. Ambition turned out really well. I like the way you leaned into the bare-midriff, and the purple cape looks great, as well-- I really struggle with purples, so it's always nice to see it done this well.

Now showing a Storm Giantess from Reaper!
Painting total as of 9/20/2024: 79 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and a giant

Mr. Ambition does look very cool. I see what you mean on Honour's pants. Things get a little nondescript back there. Love the fur birthmark. That turtle rider is astounding. Surely going to be a hit.

Thanks, I was pretty pleased with his cape, just wish I could get better at blending the highlights in.

Thanks!
Trying to get into the habit of weekly updates, even if I don't have much to show off!
Greede is progressing very slowly.
And I've taken a couple minis from the Cabinet of Unfinished Things to see if I can finally finish them:-
My Shackle-Man, who's actually pretty close to finished now.
And the test mini for my Death King armour set, who has quite a way to go.

Really not doing well with the heat this summer, just doing a spot of painting here and there.
Did manage to finish the Shackle Man (Necromunda) though:-
Happy this one is finally finished.
Also made decent progress on Greede:-
Haven't had much time for Mrs. Death King though:-

Been to hot again to do much painting, but I made a little bit of progress:-
The armour is all finished, and I've started on the skin.
Today though I've been working on my Warcrow Starter Set:-
Not off to a great start, I'm missing half of the human faction, and the Internet was right, these aren't particularly well designed minis. A whole day of prepping and I still couldn't get them to go together without noticeable gaps.

Disappointing on the warcrow, though if it helps, I'm not seeing the gaps from this angle, so the prep at least worked.

Thanks! Fortunately I did a decent enough filling job with my so-so putty skills, it really helped restore my enthusiasm for working on them.
Didn't get as much painted as I'd like this week, the main culprit being this guy:-
Been trying to get into all the nooks and crannies of his hat feathers, there's a lot of areas I just can't reach with a brush and it keeps bothering me, you can't see them but I know they're there!
I did at least make a start on my first Warcrow Orc:-
I'm going outside my comfort zone and doing a green skintone.
