Howdy world. This is my first time posting about a project I am working on.

So here is the project: Scratch building titans in the rumoured new scale of 8mm. So I am working on both a Reaver (pictured) and a Warhound. These are my first attempts and any advice, hints and opinions would be very much welcome! I have included in the picture a couple of my old epic models to give a sense of the size of the new titan.

The titan so far is missing all of its armour plates, details and the foot is going to be built up to look more similar to the Forgeworld Mars class.

I will post updates as the models progress. I aim to build up a demi-legio, haven't picked the specific Legion yet though :-)

Thanks in advance!

Just a wee update, here is the Reaver Titan's legs.

Also the start of the Warhounds legs can be seen. Things seem to be going well although I have learned some things that I'll change for next time! I am hoping to have these two complete by this weekend coming, then I'll need to choose which Legio to go with. I'll probably end up choosing two, one from either side of the Heresy.

The Titan's Torso has finally been started. This is another experiment for me. Using styrofoam and carving out the basic structure. Kneadatite and Plasticard will be used to created the outer shell of the torso. But here is the start.

Not making as quick a progress as I had hoped, joys of work! Never mind I think the God Engine is coming along well.

Haven't had the time to continue with the Warhound but hopefully this weekend that'll change. Got more supplies on order to make the most of what I've learned so far and start a second Reaver. I know I should finish the first but I just can't help it!

Cheers Stormonu!

Here are the newest updates with the Carapace started and the armour on one leg much further on. I am about to go continue working on it. I have learned a lot from this first titan. Got more material on the way for the next Reaver and will be working on the first Warhound today as well.

Just to show how much my brain is crazy I am planning on the Warlord too, although I am torn between Mars and Lucius patterns! I think the Imperator at this scale would be an insane model but a lot of fun!

So here is the update for today, Most of the armour plate on the Reaver is attached but the detailing like the rims to be done. The warhound is coming along finally as well.

So far the points I have learned are:

*1 When building armour plate try to use plasitcard rather than greenstuff. It'll take some learning but should give a better finish.
*2 Ensure that plans are adhered to and mistakes corrected. Have made several little mistakes so far.

Having said that I am happy with the progress and I am looking forward to applying these lessons on the 2nd Reaver as well as the 2nd Warhound.

Oh in the picture you can see the start of another my projects - a scratch made Sicaran Battle Tank for my pre-heresy Luna Wolves army.

Next major task is the one I have been dreading. Building the head! Also get to build the weapons which I am actually looking forward to

Hope you enjoy and as always comments and tips are very welcome

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Very nice indeed chief. Myself, I'd go for the Lucius Warlord, but I've wanted to see Imperius Dictatio in model form for over a decade

You don't mention and I cannae see any in your pics - do you have Clayshapers/Colourshapers(rubber brushes)? If not, get a few, they're the best sculpting tools I've ever owned. Also you mention the issue getting GS to give the best finish for armour - I recommend mixing your GS 50/50 with a more "chalky" epoxy, Milliput is the most common but I prefer Apoxie Sculpt; it gives you a longer working time, is softer and less elastic in the first stage of curing after you mix, and the end result is harder and can be cut, filed, and sanded much more easily than pure GS which allows for harder edges and makes it easier to smooth out imperfections.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Awesome that sounds like a great idea. I am sure I have milliput kicking around so I will definitely give that a go. I do not have any Clayshaper or ColourShapers. I will check them out.

Thanks for the advice and compliments. Yeah the Lucius is a really nice pattern and I am leaning towards it :-)

This is a complete learning process for me and the first move into custom models for me, with this Reaver being my first ever scratch build, so the ideas of tools is a great one for me!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Nice man I've been doing conversions with putty for ages now but I've yet to try doing a whole model from scratch, much respect for your ambition

The clayshapers really are revelatory, to start I'd go for grey(medium firmness) and black(most firm) versions of the flat chisel and round taper point in size 0, a grey flat chisel in size 2, and white(softest) flat chisel and round cup in size 6. The others are useful, but those are the ones I find myself using the most - the 0's let you block in detail and refine edges, the 2 is for smoothing imperfections after the putty has set a little, and the 6's let you "polish" armour plates once the putty is about half cured. You'll still want your metal tools for the real detail work ofc.

Oh, and I forgot to say before; if you're using the Milliput mix, grab some of the blue Vaseline from the chemist, using that instead of water while you're mixing saves getting horrible chalky goo everywhere, and it's good as a final-stage tool lubricant when you're doing the polishing.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?

Thanks, I foresee a bit of a shopping spree when I get paid next, think I'll be patient and not start any of the other Titan's until I get these tools.

Never thought about using vaseline before sounds like good advice and I'll definitely be taking it :-)

Yeah my ambition tends to far exceed my abilities but even failure can be fun at times! Hopefully I'll produce some good results. This time it is due to my impatience. I know GW is redoing Adeptus Mechanicus but I just can't wait! :-D

I know I said I wouldn't start the next Titan until my new materials and tools arrive but I couldn't help it

Thought I'd make a start on the plastic parts of the second Reaver. It takes some of the stuff I have learned on the first and mistakes I've made and corrected them.

Decided upon the names of these two Titans. The first is Magna Amet. Roughly means "Great Test" in Latin. Makes sense as it is the prototype.

The second Titan is Secunda Stella - Second Star. Again thinking of appropriate name being second titan.

I have used a quick mould process to make a clone of Secunda's first foot saving me from having to make the second one. Using the same technique I have copied my Warhound titan's head that I sculpted. Now all I need to do is make progress with the Warhounds' bodies!

So on to today's pictures. The first is Secunda's legs as they are at the moment and the first foot. The second is still in its mould. Amet's legs stand behind to show the differences. Most obvious is the feet. Other than that the thickness of some of the tubes used has been increased and less greenstuff has been used to build it.

The second picture shows Amet standing with his shadow (The Luna Wolf I use for scale purposes). Behind them is a picture of what size the Warlord Titan will be. I am not working on the Warlord yet! Will do once the first phase of this project is completed. I am planning to make a proper mould of a Reaver and a Warhound to make two Titan Legions up in resin.

Then on to the Warlord and eventually the Imperator. May have to make Dies Irae! That'll be sweet

Ayway I am away from today until Sunday so I won't be able to keep working on stuff until then. But will be planning! Always planning! MWahahahhaa!!

Back from several days away from home with fresh ideas and determination to make some progress!

But I also have to be realistic. Following advice on here I am getting new sculpting tools. But have to wait until I get paid at the end of the month before being able to do this. So, apart from basic sculpting, all I am able to do is the skeletal work on the Titans.

However I am still awaiting new cube tubes to build the tops of the arms so work on Magna Amet have completely halted. Work on Secunda Stella is progressing though, with the Titan's torso being carved out of the foam.

The second foot made from moulding the first foot turned out well and this process will be used more often in the builds.

Despite the fact that I haven't finished a single Titan yet I have started a third! I know, I know, ridiculous! Couldn't help it though

So what you can see on the left of the picture is the start of Aurorae Lucifer, the Dawn Bringer. This is going to be a Lucius Pattern Warlord Titan

Well I hope you all are enjoying my first ever blog. As always comments, ideas and advice is most welcome as it was for this reason I started the blog!

Until next time World of Internet!

Yeah I prefer a lot of the original Titan's. The beetleback warlord was cool and the 80's Warhound was just awesome. I hope to build Titan's of all patterns when I improve on how to do curved surfaces.

Magna Amet has his noble weapons! This is the first of my Titan's to receive arms and indeed the first time I have scratch made weapons.

Lessons for next Titan - Shorten arms and bring shoulder closer to the body! But I am very pleased with my first attempt at this so far! Secunda Stella and the other two unnamed Reavers have kinda stalled though. But I am off a lot of the coming week so hopefully will make some good progress and maybe even start Magna Atem's head. Definitely want to build his missile launcher for his carapace though.

Until Next Time!

To me, the arms look an appropriate distance away from the torso - I have feeling when you put on the shoulder pads, it'll look great as is.

I don't know if this will work, but have you considered getting/making a diecut (wood) block to impress designs/create engravings in the GS armor to give it some detail/color?

That's an awesome Idea, will definitely give it a go. Currently will have to be sculpting the details on when I get new tools but I think I'll try your idea too.

Shoulders are the next main task for Magna Amet. Should be interesting to see how it looks with them on. I think I'll try your idea for the shoulders as I am wanting to start adding in more detail that will be carried forth into future Titans.

So I am now on the final stages of Magna Amet. the basics of his head has been attached, the shoulders and base of the Multiple Missile launcher are all on too.

Next step is to attach the last wire from his right arm to his back. Then finish the launcher and his face. So all in all happy with Magna Amet.

Nearly had a melt down sculpting onto Secunda Stella's Carapace. Gotta try a new technique I've been thinking of. Got the torsos of two more Reavers on the go so I'll experiment with them.

Very happy with how these are turning out. Am off work until Monday which is great as it gives me plenty of time to build. Hopefully will paint up Magna Amet in this time too.

Well today I have done the basics of Magna Amet's paint scheme including the painting of the Legio heraldry.

I have decided to go with a custom Legion for my first batch of Titan's. Can't remember if I said or not but they are the Legio Lucidum - The dawn bringers hence the heraldry on the left knee of the sun rising.

Hope you all like so far.

I am progressing with the next three Reavers. Secunda Stella also of the Legio Lucidum and two Reavers from a traitor legio probably Legio Fureans. The Warlord Titan Aurorae Lucifer is also progressing with the basics of his legs coming along now.

Well will keep updating as and when I make more progress but for now I am very happy with Magna Amet. As I've said before he's the first scratch build model I have ever done and I know I have a lot of room to improve and I will be attempting to improve with each and every model I make, but for the start I am extremely pleased and can't wait to start fighting with him

So a lot has happened over this weekend with progress being made to most of the Titans.

The first picture today shows all of the Titans I am currently building.

Second we have a close up of the Warhound and Warlord titans as they are. The Warhound's right leg showing the better level of detail I have been working on.

Finally is a close up of one of the Legio Furean Reavers. I haven't picked the names for these two but you can see again the better detailing on the armour plates

Hope you like!

It's been a while since I last updated. I had a few weeks off of the project as work was getting intense. But work has also been a boon as we have a kick ass 3D printer in the office that allowed me to print out some excellent tanks found on Thingiverse.

First up was a Sicaran battle tank. My works printer creates a support structure around the miniature that had to been cleaned up. this involved a lot of cutting and sanding but once this was accomplished the model looked great. From the first one I created a rubber mould and cast up several more. This was kinda an experiment, the last time I tired casting it went badly. This time went a lot better. Five tanks were made before the mould became damaged. This was mostly due to the failings of how I created it. I have since had two more Sicarans printed at work to create a new master sprue along with the Fellblade that was also printed in the first round.

The first batch of five Sicarans all had minor issues - small air bubbles and such. I plan to build a small vacuum chamber to draw out the air in future casts. I have also started to paint up the original printed Sicaran as Blood Angels. One squadron of three tanks will be BA the other three will be Luna Wolves.

To cap everything off I have started a completely new Reaver. This is using much better tools and techniques and promises to be a far better more detailed model than previous attempts. So far I have been working on its lower torso. It's vents are starting to take shape and the armour around where the pelvis joins is likewise taking shape.

Hope you're enjoying so far and as always comments and tips are greatly appreciated

It's been a while since I last done anything with this project, been working on a scratch Sicaran for my Imperial Fists recently.

So I have finally gotten back round to working on this project. The Warhound Titan has seen the most change, the torso is coming along well and the head is just about complete.

The second Reaver is also coming along well with its head started and the first arm attached. I am trying a new method for the leg armour.

From this and other scratch build projects I've been working on I have learned a lot. Need to get more supplies but I am edging closer to being able to build the first Master Model that I'll be using to cast up and produce my Titan legions. That is the goal for me, making a multi part multi pose customisable model that I can create a mold for and make as many as I need. I have experimented with molding and casting and after a few (well more than a few) failures I have a good setup now and can produce models with limited flaws.

So next is to finish the Warhound, i.e. its guns and carapace. Then I will be making the second Warhound and experimenting with posability. After that will be, hopefully, the Warhound master model and several head variants I am experimenting with.

The Reaver needs its other arm, leg armour and carapce gun all completed and the face re-touched.

Well I hope you are enjoying this project and hopefully it won't be so long before next update
