I thought of an army I would like to collect just for fun; Kroot Mercenaries. My brother was quite fond of his kroot back in 5th, and he ended his 40k career by selling his tau to a friend. Now our friend is letting me buy some of the army as it has been gathering dust for years. I want to make a very fluffy kill-team army made to include as many Kroot as possible, and convert stand-ins of Kroot for the positions in the army that do not have Kroot equivalents (Like HQ). I have a limited budget of about 60-80 USD, the last twenty of that eighty would have to be a friendly loan (Not preferable), and I need to know what to buy and what is fair to give my friend. Here is my idea for the list:
HQ: 84 points
Kroot warlord, 'The Swine' (Cadre Fireblade): 2x missile drones - 84 points

Troops: 394 points
Carnivore Squad(12): 3x kroot hounds, Shaper - 102
Carnivore Squad(12): 3x kroot hounds, Shaper - 102
Carnivore Squad(12): 2x kroot hounds, Shaper - 97
Carnivore Squad(12): 2x kroot hounds, Shaper - 97

Total: 488 points
...And that's it. It has 22 unspent points, if my calculations are correct, that I'm not sure what to do with. To build this I will need 33 kroot and 10 kroot-hounds from my friend. 15 of the kroot, my leader and the shapers I will get myself. But first I need to know if this list has ANY hope of being effective on the tabletop, and how much is fair to pay my friend, as I'm not entirely sure (I'm thinking $50?). Keep in mind, I don't really want too much tau tech in this army - this is a paramilitary group independent from the empire. But since it's unavoidable, I'm very open to ideas for regular-tau-to-kroot conversions. Thanks for any advice!
