Blood-Drenched Death Company Marine
|
Hello all, for about four and a half years I've been back in this hobby and the thing that inspired me to do it was unearthing some dusty space marines from some deep corner of my room upon returning to my parents home from university. I have a WIP thread that I sporadically update, but nothing to collate my finished models for my custom BA Successors the Crimson Tears. As I have showcases for my Deathwatch and non- 40k stuff this seems like something of an oversight and wil be rectified with this thread.
My most recent finished model is this fellow, an as yet unnamed Chaplain:
I first conceived him when the BA Chaplain was released a few months ago and my reaction was an almighty "meh". Plus I seem to have something of an aversion to using completely stock models. Upon deciding I was going to do m own unique Chaplain I struck upon the notion of doing him entirely in Mk. VI as you don't see that very often. He's been cobbled together from all sorts of bits, try and figure out what they all are!
I'll be sporadically adding some of my favourite older pieces here as well as newly finished stuff.

The dull gold you used on the CA was perfect! The colors work together very nicely for a stealthier looking army.

I've missed your work. He looks very action posed, and I love your painting.
The only slight criticism I have is the white on the skull does not pop, it lacks depth.

Your color scheme reminds me of the royal flush gang from DC which is totally awesome!
Great work and thanks for sharing!

Hi
Very nice highlighting
Can you tell me what colour highlight you used as I tried Eshin Grey and it did not stand out at all.
Thanks

Very clean, although I think some black/dark wash would make the bright elements pop even more. They have a slight unfinished feeling for me.

Yo, I love the pure white on your marines. I'd personally add a small amount of weathering like on GW's vior'la sept models, but it's up to you. I also found the power sword on your librarian very appealing!

Right, another picture dump. Firstly, a couple of new things:
4th Company Veteran
Tarantula of the 4th Company
And some more old:
2nd Company Captain Nathaniel (counts as Malakim Phoros)
4th Company Veterans
Pentitents (counts as Death Company)
2nd Company Tacticals
Brother Gadrael
Red Corsair - thank you very much. I was unfamiliar with those characters prior to a quick google. The comparison seems rather apt.
Reality Torrent - that's certainly what I aim for.
aceuk - Cheers and sure thing. I generally use Vallejo Model Colour Neutral Grey, occasionally I'll use VMC Basalt Grey which is a touch darker.
Elbows - Thanks
He_Man_Russ - Which bits do you mean? All my silvers get a black wash and my bronze or gold a brown one, though metallics are an area I struggle to make look right.
Desaxe - cheers, the Librarian, particularly the blade, is one of my favourites too.
Insaniak - thank you, yeah they're one of my best painting and modelling decisions (if I do say so myself).
JustaerinAtTheWall - cracking name and thanks for your comments. I like my marines hyper clean, so I won't be doing any weathering on them. I've toyed with doing an objective of a battered Crimson Tear. The purple force-blade is a favourite bit of mine, too.
JamesY - thanks a lot

Elbows, - wow, high praise indeed, Cheers!
Dreadclaw69 - thank you. I wanted a really static pose that still said 'I'm about to feth your day right up'. My 4th Company are supposed to be Siege specialists, but not in the IF or IW stand back and reduce it to rubble sense. No, the Crimson Tears 4th Company will bring your walls down, but only so they can come inside and mete out the Emperor's justice up close and personal. They expect to take fire before blades can be brought to bear, hence the uparmoured look.

Looks good, but do you really use that large of a base for it? Is that a game thing? It looks like it'd work far better on a much smaller base (particularly for placing it in various terrain etc.)
The paintwork is excellent, particularly the lit coils.

Thanks, the coils were time consuming, but fun.
I don't game so this is all about the visual for me. No other size of base allowed me to make them look like they'd been set up in the middle of a street (which is what I wanted).
