Hey all,

I'm thinking of unloading some of my custom pieces but I honestly have no idea how to price them. It's hard to balance out the amount of time put into the models vs. a reasonable value someone might actually pay. At this point I don't really play anymore so I thought it would be cool for someone to get use out of them on the table. I'll still be making models and it would be cool to keep selling some of this stuff if the work required balances out.

Anyway, here are some of the models i'm trying to price out. Any thoughts? I was also curious if there was any profit in doing custom terrain & what not. Trying to get an idea of what I could do for future builds but i'm not sure if the quality is there yet to make the work attractive for potential buyers.

There are 2 options as far as I see it.

Option 1: Calculate your hour rate, guess how many hours you spend on it + the material costs. Thats your price,

Option 2: Look at FW equivalents for the bare model price now look at ebay to see what that paint job does with that price.

PS I would pay for a decent video of you converting / building and painting this stuff.

REALLY nice models, I can see why it would be hard to set a price.

Terrain features are "safer" since people would be less likely to want/require a certain faction colouring.

Raw kit cost and your time (figure out a flat "shop rate") would be the baseline for conversion cost. It seems conversions building is not as mature a market as for painting.

I think my difficulty would be taking requests or making a creation then selling it. Painting seems mandatory since most builds may have a variety of components that look horrible in bare plastic form... maybe at least primed works.

Tough thing to gauge properly but there is something nice about getting a "one of a kind" item... especially that doom wheel... I remember seeing that a while back and really liked it.

Pricing stuff out can be difficult, people will pay for quality if it's what they want. The hardest part is finding the person.

Your stuff looks fantastic so you should be able to get parts+ for that. I think a good base to start at is triple the base model price and adjust based on time and speed of sale.
If you have a store or club that will allow you to sell them there that is your best bet, can negotiate freely in person.

Also don't be afraid to walk away if they won't pay a fair price, quality work that cannot be easily reproduced should hold value even in this crazy market.

I agree with the suggestions of using GW/FW model base prices, or similar sized models, then multiply by 3 -- at least. Because these are custom works you would need to ballpark hours invested. Personally I would gladly buy these off of you, but I don't think I could afford them. Just throwing some numbers out there for what I would expect to pay for custom work like this:
Ork Turret: $75-$100
Tellyporta: $100-$150
Battlewagon/battlefortress: $200-$250
Doomwheel Battlewagon ("dakka piranha"): $250-$350

These are just my conservative estimates. The right buyer might offer more. It's just so hard to judge. They are amazing pieces, one of a kind for sure.

Novasetri, are you sure you want to sell these?

Thanks guys, this is a huge help! I probably won't get back the time I put into them but that's ok since there was a lot of learning that went into it. If I were to try to rebuild these today I'm sure it would go a lot faster. Not sure if i'll go the ebay route or just throw them up on the forums for sale.

@ Cleatus - I really wouldn't mind selling them. It would give me a little bit of extra cash for some better tools and I could probably work it out to trade some bits / cash when figuring out the pricing to be able to make more cool stuff.

Those conversions are absolutely superb and the paint jobs are ace too. Definitely don't sell yourself short with these. It may take some time to find the right buyer, but each of these pieces are fantastic and can go for a lot. Not that I'm saying you should gouge the buyer for as much as possible, of course.

Sorry I can't be more specific on prices. I have no idea. But I felt the need to comment on these conversions. Great work

Thanks for the tip Frey!

Much appreciation for the kind words. I definitely don't want to try and gouge the buyer. Trying to work out prices now but I think i'll be able to offset it if someone has bits they want to throw into the mix for trade.

@oldzoggy - Been thinking about your tutorial idea a lot. Could be fun to get a youtube channel going on future builds!

Thanks again guys!
