Subject: DC Comics TV Discussion Series Thread Part II[Plot details in spoilers, please]
Since the thread for The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, etc seems to have vanished--here's a new one to discuss the various shows which return this fall in the US!
First up, there's a few bits of news to go over. Netflix now has exclusive streaming rights to ALL of the CW series(Supergirl, Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow). They will now be on Netflix a week after the season finale airs. Hooray?
John Barrowman(Malcolm Merlyn of "Arrow") has been promoted to a series regular...on all 4 shows. More tie-ins coming our way?
Keiyan Longsdale(Wally West) has been officially announced to be taking up the role of "Kid Flash". We got our first look at the costume today. Image in spoilers as it is a rather large image:
Spoiler:
I can't speak for the rest of you, but I'm excited for the whole line-up to come back in October. Definitely excited to see where they go with "Supergirl" as well, since she's now a CW property and they don't need to do any cross network negotiating.

Supergirl's probably filming now, since it moved from CBS.
Flash trailer looks awesome. Easily my favorite show of the four, despite the flaws it does have.
Legends I wasn't a huge fan off but it's a nice way to begin the weekend. Sara vs Dahrk for reasons in spoiler will be awesome.
I'm not excited for Arrow. The action was better than previous seasons but it says something when ten arrows were fired in the opening animated logo and none were in the trailer.
S4 Spoilers
Spoiler:
I'm still not over the fact they killed off Black Canary, the second most important character in GA mythology. It seems like they intend to push through Felicity and Oliver - which would be fine except they do so at the expense of the story/plot/writing. Not to mention replacing Black Canary with multiple characters? I don't know where the show is going.
Hopefully, I'll be able to watch Flash and maybe Supergirl/LoT without relying on crossover episodes with Arrow. I'll wait until reviews for S5 come out before deciding whether to watch it.

That was something being talked about; however the only real news on that front is that the CW has stated they want to keep Matt Ryan around to play Constantine if/when they have Constantine join Legends.
Going by the way that the Legends teaser for S2 had Damian Darhk appear? We might see him show up for an episode or two and then fade off into his own thing again.
Another thing worth noting is that purportedly the CW is in negotiations to buy the Constantine/Hellblazer license from NBC to bring the show back.

Yeah, sadly if Constantine is going to show up I reckon it'll only be for a couple of episodes for now... though more of him is always good. Given the Justice Society is in play now, though, I would absolutely love Doctor Fate to appear! One of the coolest and most underrated DC characters.
Vixen is a confirmed addition to the cast, though not the one in Arrow from last series as that actress is busy, it'll be a previous wielder of the same power. Citizen Steel is also in, brother of the better-known Steel.

Matt Ryan, when they filmed the episode of "Arrow" with him last season, was on Broadway and auditioning for a film so it could be a conflicted schedule affecting the character coming back.

I hope that actually happens Constantine was brilliant, but all too often it seems rights holders will deliberately sabotage such negotiations with unreasonable demands as they'd rather have a property "in their pocket" doing nothing and earning them no money than they would make a reasonable amount selling it off so a rival can make money with it themselves. Honestly I'd be happy with just Constantine and The Flash, the rest I could take or leave.

Well he did do the voice of Constantine for the next animated DC movie.

But I am strangely irritated that the female anti-Supergirl is called Bizzaro and not Bizzara.
I mean did no one study language?
Oh and also wouldn't an army of fully-powered Kryptonian criminals rate calling Superman? Like, right away? I mean independence is cool and stuff but no shame in calling for help before they destroy the world.
So yeah. Needed a bit more thinking (I would have had Superman send off world or something) and everyone in National City is blandly handsome/pretty in that Hollywood way, but still the cast is good, the girl is cute, the skirt is short.
Pleasingly mediocre.

In Supergirl news, though, there's been some interesting additions to the cast in recent weeks!
Spoiler:
Mon-El (presumably in the Pod at the end of S1)
Miss Martian, which hopefully means more Martian stuff)
And in the opening, featuring-actual-Superman episode, they're going up against Metallo... should be interesting!
Meanwhile, elsewhere
Spoiler:
Arrow has added Artemis, though it'll be the same character that tried to assume the Black Canary mantle last year, and Legends has added Stargirl to the Justice Society.

OK finished Supergirl, it was enjoyable. far, far, far from great, but enjoyable.
But this is driving me nuts! Why was she immune to the mind control lasers in the season closer.
Martian Manhunter immune due to telepathy.
Lord and Cat immune due to tech.
Well OK Kara is a krytonian maybe she's naturally immune.
Except Superman, not immune.
Was it just her sunny disposition? Did they spare her? Why was she immune?

Supergirl was on CBS and there's a cross over with the Flash which establishes it's on a different parallel Earth. So it might be a good one to start with.
It's moved to the CW so it might cross over more later.
Haven't seen other 3.

I’m looking for shows to watch, have netflix, and generally enjoy the hero genre, but am only tangentially informed on who’s who.
Is there a good order to watch these? Should seasons be interspersed, or just binge shows one at a time?
Arrow 1 and 2, and Supergirl, can all be watched entirely independently.
Arrow 3 and 4 crossover with Flash 1 and 2 respectively in episode 8 of each series, and the odd character swap later on, but there's no need to alternate episode or anything, just watch up to episode 7 of each, then the crossover, then go back to whatever you were watching before. The crossover in A4/F2 acts as a pilot/prequel of sorts for Legends of Tomorrow, but after that it can be watched on its own.
Well OK Kara is a krytonian maybe she's naturally immune.

It's explained that Superman, having grown up on Earth, has developed human brain/thought patterns, thus is affected by the weapon. Kara isn't affected as her brain developed on Krypton.

Apparently it was because Kara's brain waves were still Kryptonite whereas big Supes was now more Earthlike having grown up there from being a baby.
OK so watching order...
Arrow Season 1
Arrow Season 2
Alternate Flash season 1, Arrow Season 3 with Flash first.
Alternate Flash Season 2 with Arrow Season 4, Flash first.
You can interspace Legends too at the midpoint but to be honest, cause of timeywimeyness as long as you watch it after the end of Arrow Season 3 you're good.
Supergirl season 1, there's a single crossover with the Flash late in the season but the specifics kinda don't really matter much.

There's definitely a crossover planned for this season; purportedly it's best to think of it as "a four hour movie". It spans Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow.
Flash last season set us up for "Flashpoint" which is the way this season is going.

Ultimately it was a pretty gakky reason to once again not include Superman in the show but that's all in the past. They are allowed to have Superman now, so all is forgiven.

Some very interesting Legends news. Looks like the team will be going up against nothing less than
Spoiler:
THE LEGION OF DOOM! In this iteration featuring Eobard Thawne, Captain Cold, Malcolm Merlyn and Damien Darhk! Should be pretty cool indeed. More Lenny and Thawne is always good, and with any luck they'll make much better use of Darhk's potential as a villain than Arrow did last year.
In other news, Gotham starts up again in the US on Monday, though over here we're still waiting until January, so please spoiler any discussion of that!

Finally saw Batman vs. Superman (on TV). Wow, that was...not good.
*Lots of plot holes. Wait everyone's mad because terrorists died?...er...so? *Luthor has no motivation to do what he's doing. None zero, zilch. *When did Batman become superstrong Batman? *It was really dark. Both literally and figuratively. No one really had any redeeming qualities. *Why did the abomination thingy attack Superman in the first place?
The reviews will have to be spectacular before I actually pay money to see anything outside of Suicide Squad in this comic book universe again. Jeez Louise I find most Marvel films teenagey B movies, but they don't make me want to go slit my wrists after watching it.

While it is indeed a questionable film some of the questions you asked were actually answered in the movie if you didn't sleep through it.
1) People weren't mad terrorists, it was reported that Superman killed a bunch of terrorists and villagers which made people question his power. In the Extended Edition you find that the CIA/DOJ know Superman didn't do it but are letting him take the blame to deflect away from them as they go after terrorists.
2) While I don't mind the idiosyncratic approach to Luthor they did do a bad job of giving him motivation to be the way he was. I guess he didn't like the idea of Superman being important, but it was not as well fleshed out as it could have or should have been.
3) Batman didn't become super strong, he made Supes super weak. How did you miss him developing and using Kryptonite weapons all over the place?
4) They said that this Batman had been at it for awhile and was burned out. Part of the story arc is that Superman's attitude and sacrifice reminds him of what is good and brings him back from the darkness.
5) It may have just been in the Extended Edition but there was something about how it was verboten for Kryptonians to make those things, and it probably could tell Superman was another Kryptonian. Also, Superman was the only one that could fight it so that would get its attention as well.
Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Yeah, the Batman in BVS is essentially a PTSD, suicidal "blaze of glory" Batman. Robin's dead, the mansions gone, everything he has tried to accomplish in life has either failed, or left utterly meaningless.
I don't like that they went that route with Bats and how that he essentially doesn't care that he's killing people, but with the context given, I can accept it. And, hopefully, Batman will avoid killing people in Justice League as part of this, essentially a redemption arc for him. - Although, I'll be ok with him taking out a few parademons
I can't really defend the job they did with Lex, and I don't want to but the main motivation is the whole 'raging against the gods' thing - He mentions Prometheus in the museum, and also the whole 'no man in the sky intervened when I was a boy to deliver me from daddys fists and abominations' speech.
It still annoys me that in live action film (not animation or TV), this 1 minute of Kevin Spacey Lex Luthor in Superman Returns, and only this 1 minute in the entire film, is the strongest portrayal.

So no different then we do every single day. Its like the movie forgot real life (TM) could care less.

Yea. He played a mean Luthor though. Would have been better with motivation.
3) Batman didn't become super strong, he made Supes super weak. How did you miss him developing and using Kryptonite weapons all over the place?
Throwing people through walls and such, not to mention Superman. He's never been that strong in a movie before. At one point he lifts a steel girder...er what?
4) They said that this Batman had been at it for awhile and was burned out. Part of the story arc is that Superman's attitude and sacrifice reminds him of what is good and brings him back from the darkness.
I should be more clear. Everything and everyone is dark. Even Superman. Its really freaking depressing, like Watchmen depressing.
5) It may have just been in the Extended Edition but there was something about how it was verboten for Kryptonians to make those things, and it probably could tell Superman was another Kryptonian. Also, Superman was the only one that could fight it so that would get its attention as well.
Except it immediately attacked him. I could see that if Supes attacked first.
