We'll find out soon enough eh.

Hah, that was brilliant. Watched the first of the new series last night, really awesome, although the final match was a little anticlimactic considering their previous bout together. Not sure about Dara O'Briain relative to Craig Charles yet, maybe as an adult I'd have found Charles' style more grating than as a kid but he was certainly memorable, while Dara's turn so far seems pretty muted both in comparison to Charles and to his own normal shtick.

Also, am I going mad or did the commentator make a sly anal sex joke?

I was annoyed at the Razer team, 12 years and you go out in the first round!

All i want to see in the new series now is Chaos 2 and Panic Attack

Chaos 2 was the man. I still remember the semi-finals and flat out owned Firestorm by flipping it outside the ring. I also liked seeing Hypnodisc (seriously cool robot).

Best match up though was Diotoir vs Sergeant Bash. Sad to see Bash not returning, but I am happy to see that Dead Metal is back. Coolest housebot IMO.

Hadn't realized it was on, but that's what you get when you have builders round and your TV rooms are occupied.

Glad it's good, got it recorded.

When I left for work this morning neighbour's kids were -- loudly -- discussing their plans to build a robot and win.

Hah, yeah Dara O'Briain's been retweeting parents all day who've been sending him variants on "my kid has spent the whole day filling a notepad with robot designs, what have you done!"

Glad its back and enjoyed the show. Happy that Craig was replaced as I didn't really like him. Shame that Bash wasn't there either. Perhaps they bring him out and My Psycho later on in the series.

Oh yeah, glad the Refbot was retired.

Edit: according to wikipedia refbot, mr psycho, bash and Cassius chrome(?) won't be back at all this series.

I would have preferred Bash to be there. I think the original baddies of Dead Metal, Sergeant Bash, Shunt, Matilda were perfect. Adding other house robots just bloated it as they rotate around. Just build two of the same house robot (they did this with the Refbot, as he was in every match since his introduction). Sir Killalot was awesome though, don't mind him being included.

It looks like this is primarily a British discussion......So I hope that a Yank like me isn't intruding.

Are any of you actively watching Battlebots? It's rather interesting to see the difference in bots from two nationalities.

As a side note, this makes me nostalgic. I almost completed a Battlebot in college. We got a grant from the college ($2500) to start, and some fee stuff from local businesses. Long story short, a materials engineer student and I managed to build two frames, three armor shells, find all the major mechanical parts, find carbon fiber plates and Kevlar (police auction had tons of unused extra small vests), and get a chainsaw engine to run on nitro methane (insanely cool, and powerful).

Everything major was built, but the Electrical engineering student couldn't be bothered to piece together the internal electoral components and we didn't finish in time to enter.

I think the new one would have smooshed Razor as well. Razor is a great machine but I don't think it has the protection. When that spin gets up it does a heck ton of damage. I think Nuts could've proven quite effective if it had shortened the chains a bit and it was a good show with the nanonuts Was amazed that they managed to get it out fighting again after it got demolished.

It will be interesting to see how many new ones there are and how well the old ones do.

One was a little surprised/perturbed/chuffed to hear that so many of the competitors had kept things going , one way or another.

Then there was the added drama of people having previously been in other teams and now facing each other and so on.

very soap operay but did work.

Is there a way folks abroad can watch this?

We've got Battlebots season 2 airing in the U.S. currently, and it's amazing!! Sixth episode is tonight, others can be viewed online at ABC's website if you have a cable subscription in the U.S. (not sure if others can view it yet).

So episode 2 has been and gone and it was entertaining in different ways to the smashfest that the first one was. The Foxit or whatever they were called team were brilliant in the worst possible way. He was so smug about his bot and it did nothing. I don't think I have seen a boring battle before but his vs the spinner one where they just avoided each other was rubbish.

I was expecting Sir Squared to do better after he smashed that wheeled bot to pieces in the first round, and after the success of the spinner in the first episode. But blimey, did it get a kicking from Thor.

It's going to be interesting later on in the series.

I was rooting for Thor. I was properly gutted when they went down. Good robot with a good weapon with a good operator at the helm too. Well, there's always next year. Nuts was brilliant too. I've never seen cluster bots used before. When Behemoth flipped one of them I properly loled.

Just imagine though, if an upgraded hypo disk turned up...pants would be peed.

Ever hear the sound of that disk powering up? It's like a screech, like an air raid siren.

Most enjoyable indeed.

can only really echo previous comments about some of the machines.

Think Thor was the 1st axe wielding one I've ever seen do any actual damage to another machine.

I guess experience, technology etc etc all add up but am struck by how much better most of the robots are in this series than previously.

Couple of good matches, some very poor ones in the last episode. The lack of background music really started show during that match. Thor seemed to be better than it ever was, and the eventual winner was actually fairly impressive, even if I thought it was screwed after its first match with Thor.

Next week looks like it will be better than the previous two though, looking at the teams

I think I only really grasped the power on that axe after it casually broke up a scoop made from material designed to contain a highly explosive substance at high pressure

The hula-spinner was quite cool with a fun team(excepting, of course, those awful doctoring puns - I always wonder if they're told to put that on or if there are really folk out there with a sense of humour that cringe-inducing, hah), but a flawed design in the end - since the spinner encircled the entire chassis, any impact at all stopped the disc, making it impossible to get up to speed. Carbide could at least try and take impacts on its side or arse-end while the blade spun up.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone affected by such a cavernous gulf between their perception of their ability and the actuality of it than that Foxit numpty. What a tit he was. I did like that the presenters just weren't having it at all though, he had a proper sulk going on after Scanlon had a wee go at him

Good to see an old favourite revived - I only watched it a couple of days ago, and was pretty pleased, except for one thing. Where's my Sgt. Bash?!

Still, let's hope the ultimate cheese that was Firestorm doesn't make a return; hilariously great robot, but kinda ruined any tension in the matches as you knew it was going to win

I know it's been mentioned before, but man isn't it funny that Jeremy Clarkson did the first series of this?

He was terrible back then

I read somewhere that they do still have Sgt. Bash but he isn't going to be in this series. No Hypnodisc this series either, which makes me sad.

Hope we'll get some fluffy robots soon. Was always fun seeing them catch fire

Also liking the range of weapons (flippers, axes, hammers, spinners etc.). Flippers can be so boring to watch as when you've got two against each other it can come down to just who has the most CO2. I want to see robots get smashed up, goddammit!

I'd love for him to return, even if he was kinda pointless and was only there to puff his flamethrower and fight the referee bot. I almost forgot they used to have a ref bot - bring him back too!

Hypnodisc was a nightmare, but I don't think it will compare to Carbide if it returns though; that thing is bloody deadly.

So far though, Thor and Behemoth have put on the best shows. Behemoth was one of my old favourites too, so nice to see it return.

But as you said, I'm waiting for the one team who thinks it's a really good idea to cover their robot in velvet. That will be entertaining

I think my favorite house robot is Dead Metal - He was excellent in the last episode, and he looks so beautifully evil. As iconic as Sir Killalot is, his weapons are a bit wimpy. Matilda is excellent , and Shunt is pretty neat, but Dead Metal's pincer-buzzsaw thing is just too cool - especially against anything with exposed tires.

Yeah, Dead Metal is pretty cool. Especially since his backstory is basically a bunch of scrap metal came alive and fused together into this monster. If the others had 'human' personalities, I like to think that he's more animalistic in nature.
