Hey guys!

Returning the hobby after some years away. I decided to rebuild my old chaos Death Guard army. I started collecting this army when the second 3rd ed CSM codex came out and I still have some of those models kicking around. Unfortunately after nearly 14 years most of them aren't looking so good! I'm planning on building a lot of the new plague marines out of the Nurgle Lord of Plagues model because I think it's just a fantastic miniature. Plus it really adds to the feel of Death Guard as these diseased hulks.

I'll kick it off with the first WIP Plague Marine --

Thanks KernelTerror!

Did a bit more sculpting on the chest, but unfortunately didn't have the presence of mind to take photos. My old Death Guard were based on the pre-heresy colours, so they were white (from a chaos black undercoat before foundation paints existed ), but I'm opting for something closer to the new pre-heresy colour scheme. I'm a very sloppy painter, mostly drybrushing layers before finishing up with a series of watches. I started painting from a mournfang brown base, a coat of rakarth flesh for the armour and loren green for the shoulder pads. Currently getting all the base colours done before doing the highlights/washes.

Quick daylight pic,. The only brush I own is a citadel Standard Brush that's getting a bit old in the tooth, I really felt that on the highlights -- still a bit of work to be done on this guy, but I feel he's getting close enough to tabletop quality.

Also quick look at the next Plague Marine.

Rebasing some of the older models, will probably give them a quick lick of paint where possible so they look a bit more up to date!

Repainted a couple of the older models, one is from the original army, the other was the test mini for this project. Quite happy with how they came out in the new colour scheme, they're far from perfect but I think they hit tabletop quality. I wanna salvage as much of the older army as possible even if they look kinda naff!

Wonderful! wonderful looking army!

Have you looked at the possessed kit and the putrid blightkings mashed together? They would make wonderful plague marines

Also chaos warrior heads with the horns snipped off and a spike added would do well for plague marine helmets as well.

Makes me wanna jump back into my death guard..

Thanks guys!

@KernelTerror -- glad to be converting others to Papa Nurgle Slaanesh and Nurgle are probably on better terms than any of the other Chaos Gods anyway

@ThunderFury 2575 -- I have a few chaos warrior heads lying around, so I might give that a go. Back in with the 3.5 codex I used to run a squad of possessed as a GUO delivery service, so I might rebuild the squad with the possessed/blight king mashup idea.

Still digging stuff out of storage, will hopefully have some proper old school plague marines to show soon. In the meantime more WIP pics of the plague marine squad

Found one of the old dreadnoughts, but none of his arms! I never glued them on for ease of transport, it also meant I could swap out his loadout, gonna have to figure a replacement. Still though, he held up quite well given he's spent the better part of a decade in a bad storage box. Working my way through the plague marines, have near enough assembled for squad. Also quickly finished up a Nurgle Herald I made ages ago. He started out as a test plastic plaguebearer before the current kit came out. The head is from the Grey Knight kit, I'm sure you can guess where the body is from!

Didn't much time for stuff over the weekend because of the aul social life. Forge World brass etch arrived today, been putting on some of the older Plague Marines so everyone has the chapter symbol. Never worked it with before but I can afford to be a little messy, one of the perks of Nurgle! Aside from that, working on some of the special weapons lads, nearly have two full squads built so hopefully have pics of the army in progress soon rather than just individual marines.

Pretty cool, medieval bits on Nurgle is a great combination indeed ! Nice to see that classic plague marine too, the static pose should definitely not be an issue for a rotting pile of flesh and armor.

Hopefully the classic plague marines will go well with the army when they're painted as they're quite a bit smaller in comparison. Almost finished building the core of the army, few finishing touches here and there like icons or grenades (as well finishing up building the second champion) and it's on to painting! The Dark Apostle in terminatorarmour was a mini from a few years back when I was tempted to get back into the hobby but didn't full on return. Unfortunately I didn't realize that Dark Apostles can't take terminator armour (seriously wtf GW ) when I was rebuilding him.

Finally got a minimum sized squad painted up! Will hopefully be playing some 500pt games next weekend, we're gonna be playing 3.0 ed. as we're all a bit hazy on the rules

Also started work on a power/daemon armour chaos lord. This is very WIP at the moment but I'm quite liking the Bane style head on him, the relatively normal space marine head makes the horribly mutated body more jarring.

Thanks LeCacty! I'm really enjoying painting the new pre-heresy colour scheme. I painted the old scheme, primarily white, from a black undercoat before foundation paints existed, so the new scheme is a lot easier in comparison

Made some more progress on the Chaos Lord. Considering doing up some Havocs next but I'm note sure whether to give them autocannons or missile launchers.

Thanks ThunderFury! Almost finished painting up the Lord, so pics inbound of that soon.

In the meantime I've been converting up some Obliterators out of spare bits and pieces. In terms of size I wanted the Oblits to be somewhere between the old models (they were tiny and on 25mm bases) and the current ones. I like the idea that Obliterators were once techmarines, I'm going for an early Heresy look, so these guys aren't that mutated yet.

Couple of pics of the Lord. I'm happy enough having at him to tabletop quality, though I may revisit him later to touch up a few areas. Working on getting the 500pt core of the army done. We're initially going to be playing 3rd ed. so my planned list is a Lord, 7-8 Plague Marines, 3 Nurgling bases and 3 obliterators. Some of the 3rd rules are a bit funky, like obliterators can't actually charge! They don't have slow and purposeful either, but the twin-linked storm bolters ought to come in handy.

WIP of the third Obliterator, very happy with how the unit is turning out, especially since they were basically just bashed together out of my bitz box.

Hoping to have 500pts fully painted by the weekend --

Folks,

It's been a while, been away from the hobby for a few weeks, but prepping to settle in for my annual christmas binge. I used to pick up lots of warhammer stuff at this time of year when I was younger and couldn't afford to pick up shiny new kits throughout the year. It's always a nice nostalgia buzz, but I usually put everything back in boxes come January. This year is a bit different though, as I'm back playing regular 3rd ed games down at the local GW.

But anyway, army updates!

Finished the squad of Obliterators, will be posting pics soon, in the meantime here's the latest two additions, a GUO and Daemon Prince.
I've given the Daemon Prince a Kai Gun and will be adding wings for maximum mobile shootiness, plus it'll really add to the cthulu vibe.

Even though they're traditionally enemies, I couldn't help picking up some Tzeentch stuff this weekend to go alongside my Death Guard. They've all been super friends since 4th ed. though right?!

Haven't made too much progress on the painting front, what with it being winter here and lighting conditions being incredibly poor as a result. Might look into picking up a daylight lamp for the desk. Been building instead, working on some bikers at the moment.

Appreciate the compliment

Have some progress to show on the Kai Gun Daemon Prince. We've been playing a lot of 3rd ed. recently, but I'll probably count the Kai Gun as Stream of Corruption or something more suitable for anything after the 3rd ed codex.

Still working away on the biker, I misplaced the head I'd set aside for him, so I might have to go with something else
