I love the Automarines battle reports because win or lose you're always having fun!

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I love these BatReps as well, but I think they'd be a lot more fun for everyone involved if you got some terrain. My God... that table is just empty. You're essentially playing on an open field.

I agree with HBMC....Dude your battle reports might be a little more interesting if you got some scenery on that table! All you guys did was line them up and shoot. At the first picture I looked at I knew what the outcome was going to be. Capt K

I think his Battle Report threads would be a lot better if you two did not pollute them with your whining about terrain.

Automarines, I love your Reports, please keep up the good work. I hate Reports with out pictures, and you consistently produce. A little more Narration like the first couple would be appreciated.

methoderik: I believe that my response to you would be: "Sit on it Potsy..." By posting a battle report in a forum it is open to critique. I love Automarines batreps, but they suffer from boring deployment brought on by no terrain. With no terrain, the line them up and shoot deployment is dull. By adding more terrain to the table, the game is more dynamic. Afterall, he is sharing a game with us. Why not make it a little more interesting? I agree though that having pictures, etc. make for the best batreps. Capt K

Good one! Ha ha ha ah....erm... lame.

Sorry guess I missed part of the post where he stated this battle report was for "critique".

Kinda late to add input to a battle that has already taken place, but hey hindsight is 20/20 right?

Methoderik:

I think what those of us in the "more terrain" camp are trying to say is this:

We absolutely LOVE his battle reports and we appreciate the time and effort he is putting into making them. However, as constructive criticism, if he/they were able to get some more terrain, or even just place the terrain they do have more centrally located, his battle reports would be just that much better.

In other words, his already fantastic battle reports could be made even better if the outcome of the games weren't so clearly decided before the game even starts because of the distinct lack of terrain.

I am not trying to start an argument.

I guess it seemed liked these guys already posted the same kinda stuff in one of Automarines other threads.

As a huge fan of Battle Reports, especially ones with pics, I wanted to make sure Automarine knew he had as many fans as "critics".

I guess we get so many Battle reports like this we can be picky.

Meth: What Yak said pretty much sums up my point of view. I will still assert that by just the very nature of posting a batrep, you are opening the door to constructive criticism for it. If Automarine had more terrain in his batreps then he would have some of the best batreps evah. Capt K

I agree, good batrep, nice pics......but textbook example of how NOT to set up terran!

Don't believe me? check out the Whitedrawf.....maybe 4-5 months back, they had a article on how to and not to use terrain, the first pic found above is located in the not to part.......ok well maybe not that EXACT pic

You get the point.

I have to ask: anyone out there making a Decept-Necron army to be the Automarines' arch-nemeses?

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Ya know, you all are haters. It looks like Automarines has more fun in a game of 40k just setting up and rolling dice with whatever he wants than I've had in years, and my group is meticulous about proper terrain and settling rules disputes beforehand and yadda yadda.

Maybe I should take a cue from Automarines. And your reports rock!

Dude, get a clue, or stop yapping.

I feel sorry for Ed.  I don't know what kind of scheme was used for terrain set up, but if that's what he laid out, he needs a quick lesson or two.  Why we're all commenting is because we're looking at Marines vs 100% assualt 'nids, and it's a wide open board.  Yeah, it's great he had a wide open board, but how did his oppenent feel?

On the first turn, Ed's basic options were stay clustered behind the rocks, or charge across the board, and you can see how well worked when the first two genestealer squads got themselves wiped out.  It was an excellent report, but it also allows us to see how lopsided the setup was against the 'nids.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe they just don't care?

Why clutter up the pictures with terrain, it just blocks shots of the models anyway ;P

The battlereps are always entertaining simply because they have cool picures and off-beat remarks edited on to them. The actual battles themselves look dreadfully boring to play give how the terrain is usually set. I don't think better terrain placement would affect my enjoyment of the battlereps but I'm surprised his opponents don't place thier terrain pieces better.

A new day, a new time zone.

I just noticed the walls at the top of the picture. Did those define the table edge, and that's why they weren't used? Because if not, I'm at loss to explain why that nice, LoS blocking scenery was stuck at the side.

Yea, I noticed those too, I think they were just defining table edge.

Haa! Splendid!

I used to have this huge plastic Optimus Prime and a whole lot of other transformers it used to beat up on a field of battle not much unlike 40k... Im getting huge retro vibes

I personally would place the terrain differently, BUT then again, every good story needs an epic battle where the protagonist(s) whoop the antagonist's ass! Besides, the forces of good weren't exactly pushing their open-field advantage. You may notice them running forward, doing their best Khorne Berzerker impressions, eager to get their swords red/purple/some-colour with Tyranid blood-equivalent!

Thank you Automarines

PS. I too would love some more descriptions, pre-game thoughts and after-game-what-went-wrongs.

This is my first time seeing the atuo marines, and i am sure has been said before, what a killer theme! those guys look great, optimus prime for a dread? that is flippin fantastic!

good job on the great bat rep, and the nid player's army looks great as well for a young painter, keep it up, and if you guys have fun with little terrain then so be it, but it really would make the tyranids situation a little less grim.

on the whole though, well done, and please keep it up!

Well....

Hahaha I wanna say thanks to all of my fans and critics. I am about to post a new BattRep with my Garage table. I made so much terrain I think all of you should be pleased. It should be up tonight sometime. And it will give all of you tons of ideas for cheap, expansive terrain.

When I play a game I really just throw down some terrain and play MOST of the time. I seem to remember on this day I simply took choices laying 8 pieces or six pieces of terrain. When you are a bug player... you want to play them near the middle of the table. Ed didnt. I replied to his error by actually charging all of my units across the table into his. We had fun. I have won the Best Sportsmanship award in my store two times running, so I know how to give good games.

As far as my traits, I use cleanse and purify and trust your battle brothers. My fallbacks are eye to eye and the one that doesnt allow scouts/infiltrators.

I have redsigned the automarines and the deceptitau are coming along. Go to my website if you want to see them. The new automarines list uses purity above all and trust your battle brothers.

Purity above all allows your veteran sergeants so become apothecaries. It is really awesome and you all should look at it. When it comes up online. www.automarines.com

Take care you all.

Optimus.
