I haven't posted here that much. I do a lot of historical figures and it seems like there isn't as much interest in those. But I recently started a new fantasy project so I thought I'd give it another go. I'm working on one of the orc figures from Black Sailors, a 1/35 scale line of orcs, goblins, and trolls themed around the crew of a pirate ship. There aren't really for gaming due to the scale, so I'm doing him up as a display figure. I opted to begin with Redghar, the brute of the group. I went with a very dark green, the sort of shade I'd expect for a black orc. The base is a mix of 2 parts dark green to 1 part burgundy wine. For shading I simply added more and more burgundy wine. To highlight, I used a 50/50 mix of Dark Elf Highlight and Vampiric Shadow (basically just a light grey) and gradually added more and more of it to the base mix. The colors, with the exception of the dark green, were from Reaper. To compliment the green of the skin, I used purples for the lips, nose, and around the eyes.

So far I've just been working on the head. I will continue the same general approach with the rest of the piece, it's just easier for me to work on smaller sections at a time.

Wow dude this looks great! Thanks for the additional info on your shading technique. I was always been under the impression that you were suppose to highlight up from the base color but this has clearly proven me wrong. Can't wait to see more!

Thanks, Novasetri, Joyboozer, and Ruberu.

I've continued working on the skin for Redghar, moving on to the torso and arms. I'm working on smaller sections at a time, so what you see here was done in several phases. It helps for me to do it that way since I'm trying to keep the contrast high and the lighting consistent with what I've already finished. I still need to do his back, the left arm, and then the hands. Of course I'm looking forward to starting on some of the other details and taking a break from all that dark green!

Holy Moly.

You sir have some skill! the skin tones are awesome, although I feel like the scars are a little to bright, but thats my only nitpick and its not really one at that.
