While there are a lot of new toys in the new dex.  I've desided to keep to the classic formula for a little while but I can't just go old school, so I had to through in a few of the new changes.  I'll be giving the new markerlight rules a heavy run, and added in a few new units to look at effectiveness.  So here it is.

HQ -
Shas'o - CIB, Plasma, MT

Elites -
Stealths x6

Troops -
Firewarrors x5 - Pulse carbins x5
Shas'ui - Pulse carbine, Markerlight, drone controller, 1 marker drone

Firewarrors x5 - Pulse carbins x5
Shas'ui - Pulse carbine, Markerlight, drone controller, 1 marker drone

Firewarriors x11 - Pulse rifles x11
   Shas'ui - Pulse rifle
   Devilfish - Decoy Launcher

Kroot x10

Kroot x10

Fast Attack -

Pathfinders x7 - bonded
   Shas'ui
Devilfish - Decoy launcher, SMS system, Disruption pod, Targeting array, seekers x2

Piranha - Fusion blaster, Targeting array, seekers x2

Piranha - Fusion blaster, targeting array, seekers x2

Heavy Support -

Hammerhead - Railgun, SMS, decoy launchers, multi-tracker, target lock, seekers x1

Hammerhead - Railgun, SMS, decoy launchers, multi-tracker, target lock, seekers x1

Sniper Team (x2)

Totals -
1849 points, 79 models
14 Markerlights
18 pinning weapons
8 Seekers
12 AP3 or lower weapons (not counting seekers)
6 Vehicles (It should look good on the table)

So this is a classic hybrid list.  I think it has a good mix of armor and guys foot.  The list is very mobile, the only really static unit will be sniper drones and pathfinders.  The two marker drones are getting ditched as soon as the seekers are gone so that their unit can fully utilize the move and shoot ability of the carbines.

Good idea. I appologise now for my following response. I don't think markerlights are effective, and the following will reflect that. This doesn't mean I think you should drop them, on the contrary, I would like to know how effective they are.

Shas'o - CIB, Plasma, MT

I don't see why you would use a Shas'O over a Shas'el with a targetting array. 6/10

Stealths x6

Hmmm no upgrades. Oh well. 9/10

Firewarrors x5 - Pulse carbins x5
Shas'ui - Pulse carbine, Markerlight, drone controller, 1 marker drone

Firewarrors x5 - Pulse carbins x5
Shas'ui - Pulse carbine, Markerlight, drone controller, 1 marker drone

Cheaper than pathfinders, or are they? Pathfinders give you 4 markerlight hits for ~191pts and a fast attack spot. These units give you 2 markerlight hits for 220pts and 2 troop spots. Short conclusion, markerdrones are not worth it. Ever. 3/10

Firewarriors x11 - Pulse rifles x11
Shas'ui - Pulse rifle
Devilfish - Decoy Launcher

Perfect fish of fury unit. 7/10.

Kroot x10

Kroot x10

10/10, need I say more?

Pathfinders x7 - bonded
Shas'ui
Devilfish - Decoy launcher, SMS system, Disruption pod, Targeting array, seekers x2

The fire from this devilfish can be annoying to your opponent, quite useful for you. I just don't think pathfinders are very good. Think about bonding the unit. 6/10.

Piranha - Fusion blaster, Targeting array, seekers x2

Piranha - Fusion blaster, targeting array, seekers x2

Good seeker boats. I just don't think seeker boats are very effective. 6/10.

Hammerhead - Railgun, SMS, decoy launchers, multi-tracker, target lock, seekers x1

Hammerhead - Railgun, SMS, decoy launchers, multi-tracker, target lock, seekers x1

Starting to get too many seekers into this list, I can see why you chose to include the markerdrones. I recommend getting disruption pods on these with the points spare from HQ. 9/10

Sniper Team (x2)

6/10. That's the best score sniper teams will ever get from me.

It's a good markerlight list, it really is. 7/10 overall for competitiveness.

Shas'o - CIB, Plasma, MT

Right now, its all about the extra wound. The shas'o has 4 wounds. I'm agressive with him. I can see places where the enemy can get a shot off at him, especially on fast moving units. While I dont expect him to get plugged with a lascannon, missile launcher, or melta gun. I can see assault cannons, stormbolters, and other such things getting shots off. So its all about that extra wound. Maybe he can be downgraded, only time will tell.

This is a completely new idea for me. The idea here is the ability to spread out the markerlights. I can also place two markerlights after my opponent has placed 5-6 units. I should be able to get LOS to something. Also like I said, once the seekers are gone, if this unit takes a hit, the drone goes first. I'm looking at trading 60 points (the Shas'ui upgrade, his markerlight, marker drone, + seeker) to hit a tank or dread/walker on first turn. This is the only way I can statistically get one hit a turn per unit. Because I tell ya, nothing sucks more than missing when the target presents itself. Thats the plan anyway.

Pathfinders x7 - bonded

They are bonded, Well its a new codex, with new markerlight rules, so its time to give old friends a new look. I often hear that pathfinders will be priority 1 for the enemy to kill. Thats why I have the markers in the firewarrior squads. I'm also willing to accept their losses if it keeps guns away from my hammerheads or stealths for a turn. to two. I see lots of uses for this unit. I do not expect them to live, but to obsorb incoming fire that probably should have gone somewhere else.

Anyway, thanks for your comments. I've not run type of list before. I used to not use markerlights or seekers, but these new rules for the markerlights just looks so good. And if you've got the markers, might as well use seekers. I topped out at 8, I figured I could probably get all 8 off before loosing the vehicles they were attached to. I was going to go 10, but that just seemed excessive.

Interesting. I see the logic of an 'o in this list, as he's your only battlesuit, but do you really need that 4th wound with IC status? The kroot should be screening SOMETHING, after all, might as well be him.

I'm not sold on Sniper Drones. In fact, I'm pretty sure you could get similar effect from other units in the army list and get a scoring unit to boost. OTOH, it is more markerlights, which this list is pretty reliant upon, so please let us know how that works out.

I like the small unit FCWs. I don't have my 'dex in front of me: can a marker drone shoot on the move? If so, you have a very nice extra couple of markerlight utility spread throughout the army, so when those 'finders get hosed, you've still got some capability.

I guess my only question is: who benefits from 14 markerlights? The hammerheads? The Seekers? The piranha? I love stealths, don't get me wrong, but I wonder if you wouldn't be better off slipping a fireknife or deathrain monat in there, just for S&G and to give you some more med. strength shooty on the run. Other than that, me likey.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Hey Jayden, if you are agressive with your shas'o why don't you give him stims?

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

At 115 points he is already starting to get a little spendy for a single jump around guy. While stims wouldn't add that much to his cost, not sure if it is necessary. I might try to find the points for it and give it a try. There is a lot of playtesting to do on this new codex. Unfortunatly my time for games is rather limited right now, so testing for me is going to take a bit.
