So, I decided that it was about time I stopped just building random cool stuff and put together some actual, usable forces for this game...

Since I was furthest along with painting on them, I decided to start with my Epirians, putting together a basic 120-point list which can be expanded on later as I get more stuff assembled and/or more stuff is released for them.

So after a bit of tinkering, I came up with this:

The painted parts so far are about 90% done, and the white stuff obviously considerably less than that

More soon...

That seems a bit small for a 120 point force. There's more, yes?

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1

Nope, that's 119 points. All those bots chew up the points quickly

I think you're trying to use all the models you started painting already (can't ding you for that), but when you get around to actually painting, I think taking that many Scarecrows in your force is going to end up making it pretty tough for you to compete.

Scarecrows are amazing support units, they give you access to a bunch of tools that other units in the force don't provide (a defensive fire boost if deployed near other friendly units, their Chemtek Sprayer can make a 6" bubble that enemy units usually don't want to come near, and the ability to pick of enemy squad leaders out of their unit), but they are definitely a support unit, which means they can often find themselves in a situation where they don't actually have a very good target to utilize their skills.

Mainly: their sniper rifle gives you a really awesome ability to ignore cover and pick which enemy model becomes a casualty (should you actually cause a casualty). However, if the enemy unit is protected by either a field (any unit joined by a Kaddar Nova) or has any kind of Dodge (all 'mobile' units, including Angel Minnows & Shadow Walkers) then the Scarecrow's ability to ignore cover is more or less neutralized, and the lack of shots they fire becomes a real hindrance towards actually causing casualties.

As such, I'd highly recommend dropping one of the Scarecrows (-9 pts), which would allow you to take 2 more Spider Drones (6 pts) and a Contractor (2 pts).

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Yeah, I was mostly trying to use what I already had started, although influenced as well by the fact that I love the Scarecrow...

Thanks for the tip, though... I might have a look at what's left in the sprue pile. I have another couple of drone sprues, but they were earmarked for another project. Have to see what I can shuffle...

So, taking the advice from yakface on board, I had a dig through my sprues, and found that I actually had two more drones than I thought I did. Yay!

I already had an extra Apprentice Handler built, intended to accompany my Scorpion drone, but since that won't be a part of the regular force, he can do double duty here for a while first...

So the revised force looks like this:

Sweet builds insaniak, it's a nice looking force! Can't wait to see more paint, will you be taking one model through to completion before the rest, or assembly line the whole way through?

Painting the Warden.

He wasn't actually included in this list, but I wound up painting him in the same scheme...

Questioning Maelstrom Believer

Love the idea of Epirian jump infantry.

What is that middle piece linking the two Firefly rotors together?

It's the two side pieces from the drone that the rotors normally connect to... If you build your drones as spiders, these are left over, so the Warden was a nifty way of just using up some excess bits

He's not too hard to figure out, but there will be a tutorial coming along (hopefully) soon... With a couple of minor changes to the design, to make him easier to build.
