Finally got working on my Zone Mortalis set. Trying to get it to playable state by the 17th of September for a large game.

After giving them a good scrubbing in the bathtub, they get a primer coat of Rustoleum Dark Grey Primer. Gave the corners a slight coat of black for some pre-shading. Entire tile was given a heavy drybrushing of Vallejo Dark Blue Grey

Borrowed some of my kids' crayons to create a mask for airbrushing the middle of each tile with Vallejo Stone Grey.

Took a while to get the middles all airbrushed. There was a period of time where I had about 30 minutes each evening, between when I got home and when it got dark, to airbrush. Masks worked out pretty well I think. Minor clean up with a brush and some Vallejo Dark Grey covers up any really bad overspray.

Finally got all the tiles prepped. Put them down along with some of the new shipping containers to see how it all looked

After fixing up any overspray, all of the lights get a dab of white, followed by a touch of Cassandora Yellow
Ryza rust is applied randomly in cracks and crevices then the tile borders are given an application of Rub n' Buff (Pewter) with an eyeshadow sponge.

In the last pic, you can see some of the little touches and posters I want to add to the tiles.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Looking pretty cool. Great move with the creation of the mask; I may have to borrow that at some point

Also looking for some ideas for little easter eggs/vignettes I can incorporate into the tiles. I have a mini rule book printed out as well as screenshot of Dakka (this thread actually) that I can glue onto one of the monitor screens.

Each tile gets a little Ryza rust in the cracks/crevices

Here's what the mask looks like. I had to play around with this a bit and finally ended up using a piece of photo paper since it's thin but a little stiffer than paper. Paper gets a little soggy if I airbrush for too long.

Wow. Great idea with the masking! I I ever end up doing a ZM board I'll definitely have to try that.
