Just got the box today and I am utterly disappointed :(
The quality of the models is mantic standards :(
The detail was utterly shallow and the plastic used was cheap and nasty after building both warcasters and a jack (had to use super glue) the models where horrible I am sorry but it was such a disappointment so much so that I threw it in the bin

I wanted to like this game was so looking forward to it but the models where such crap amount of plastic chunks that had to come off parts not fitting right (blades on cyrx warcasters back) broken spears sprueless plastic for feck sake I can't say how disappointed I was and am in this is all of there plastic such dreadful cheap junk.

£70 I spent on this and the best place for it is the bin

I feel like it just belongs in the bin and so that is its home

The books and other stuff in the box is of decent to good quality but the models are just ...........

Privateer press you have lost my business from now to the end of time so disappointed utterly gutted by the quality. This is the bit that may seem odd I bought the old starter set along time ago one with kador and the church guys and the quality seemed better for the most part I don't know any more :( never got to get into it back the because no one wanted to play it but now I don't even want to look at it mk3 you can keep the cheap plastic

Really sorry for the rant but I am so gutted by this product I had to vent :(

I just got the same kit a couple of days ago. I also got the Hordes one. The models are going to take some serious cleaning up, but they should look okay when done. They are not up to 40K standards, but they aren't worth the bin either.

We just faked our way through our first game today, with unpainted, partially assembled figures and some Warhammer troops standing in for the units. While we got a few things wrong, and mixed up a few more, the game itself has some pretty good chops. It was a lot of fun to play, and I can see how it can be a really competitive game with a lot of strategy. The rest of the package is pretty slick, including the rules, cards and the tutorials available from Privateer on Youtube. The tutorial support for the game far exceeds anything from the other major games

I would get it out of the bin before they collect it. It's a pretty nice game and the figures are looking like they will clean up fairly well. The colors they are molded in are very nasty and make them look a lot worse than they actually are. They should look much better after a coat of primer. I have seen a few of these guys painted up. They can end up looking pretty nice with a little care. They will require a good bit of trimming, sanding and puttying to make them perfect, though.

Its nothing new. The quality of the WMH models is rather low when compared say with GW.

Genuinely sorry to hear about that!

please don't just walk away and use this to define the whole game.

Privateer press metals are solid. Their newer hips plastic (bought myself a grolar recently, and the quality is light years ahead of what pp have previously offered with their restic crap) is great too.

It's a terrible shame the starter set is such a let down for you.

Thanks for the warning. I have been sticking to a Metals only policy with PP stuff, but the MK3 Starters were looking at me.

Now I know to stick with my old policy, although I am still unsure how I am going to get a body for Tiberion or a Bronzeback.

I've recently picked up a few of the Mk3 starter faction boxes (and some other odd kits) as I've been wanting to get into Warmahordes for some time and this was a great opportunity.

Coming from 40k where the majority of models are plastic, I actually far far prefer the plastic/restic whatever it may be models that I've had to work on compared to the metal ones.

The main faction I've stuck with is Trollbloods and the models in the starter kit were ace. The plastic is different to GW and took a bit of adapting to, but it's dead easy to clean mould lines and get them really smooth, and applying a bit of heat and pushing pieces together tends to make any gaps minimal.

The Cygnar box I put together seemed to be a little more work, and when it was fully cleaned up and assembled but still in the bare dark blue plastic, it didn't look great. As soon as I got a coat of primer on it though, all the detail popped out. Not sure if it was due to it being a darker coloured plastic, but cleaning mouldlines left parts of the plastic lighter in colour than others, and just overall looked very odd. The primer obviously covered this up, and left the models looking great.

I've got a couple of metal Troll kits and have been struggling to get as good a fit with them. They've been far more work so far.

So basically, I actually quite like the plastic, and the value of the box sets is amazing. The two player box sets in particular offer outstanding value for money. Just wanted to offer a different view on the kits

I'm not sure what does this but the MkIII starter models look somehow worse than the normal Privateer plastic when bare and no different when painted.

The new starter sets are super cheap and they used a weird new plastic for them. And yes the models in the starters are terrible. That is not the same for all the models however. The metal models and the new resin kits are good. The game is incredibly fun I would complain to them if your are that dissatisfied. They customer service has been fantastic in my experience.

I'm going to go out on a limb and blame the colour. It just makes the models look cheap. Once their painted, they got the same details. Maybe to colour makes it harder to see the details.

I ordered a copy yesterday, having cryx in the box swayed me. As long as the plastic is sturdy I don't mind, it'll get painted soon enough.

The colors are awful. They have kind of a glare to them, and they are not perfectly consistent. I saw pictures of the set models primed, and they looked much better. I can't get to mine right away (Way too much Warhammer to get painted) but I am not too worried. I have already seen one set painted up and they look decent. They are not as detailed as Warhammer figures, but that is part of their charm. We did play a couple more games with just the starter set (Stand in figures for the most part) and the gameplay is pretty decent. We are getting the hang of most of the rules and refining our tactics. While I am not quitting Warhammer any time soon, (Way too much money invested) This is going to be my insurance policy in case GW make 8th edition into Warhammer Candyland like they did with Fantasy.

I will try to get something together this week to see how they look primed.

Hey, do the rulebooks that come with the mk3 faction starter boxes (eg Retribution) update us mk2 players on the changes?

It's annoying enough having to get new cards (including WR2), I'd rather avoid having to get a thumpin great rulebook again - got enough of those already.

they actually changed the starter boxes for all the factions with the exception of Convergence. Each of them comes with the updated cards and rulebooks. Convergence, I'm not so certain about, but my local retailer has a sizable box of mk3 cards for the preexisting packages. They may have gotten a couple small rulebooks for inclusion in the Convergence boxes too.

The MKIII rulebook is free on PPs website as a PDF actually

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

I am going to retreat a bit on my earlier statements in this thread. I spent a whole weekend putting together the first of the battle boxes. The figures looked okay on first glance, but the fit and finish were absolutely abysmal. I have been building models and figures since the '70s and these are among the worst I have ever taken on. The Cryx and Cygnar Warjacks were pretty rough, and were a bit beastly to build, but they turned out okay. The casters and troop units were basically impossible. The plastic is soft and easy to trim and sand, but it was so misshapen and the fit was engineered so badly that I ended up using more putty on the 18 models that I have done so far than I did on a batch of over 100 Warhammer figures. I did a lot of work on them, and they are still too ugly to really get enthused over. I'm not sure if I want to do a whole bunch of paintwork, or just shoot each army with a different color primer and call them ugly toy soldiers. I think the plastic itself may have been the main culprit, as I have seen other versions of these characters that looked much better. (Maybe they were resin or metal?)

I will get these two armies finished, but I probably won't end up motivating myself to build the other armies I have. I will probably get tired of staring at the boxes in my already huge "To Do" pile and end up letting Cathie sell them off someday. I had planned to pick my favorite three or four factions and expand them out to 50 or 75 points, where the game seems to play the best. With the additional figures priced higher than any other game I play, and being the worst to build, I will probably just play with the two small armies until I get bored. It's too bad, because the game itself is much more compelling than Warhammer, especially at the smaller sizes.

I knew going in that these were not going to be Warhammer quality, but that was part of the charm. They were going to be simpler, less detailed, more cartoonish models that fit the game well. I was also expecting a challenging building experience... I sure got that! I just was expecting them to be better than they were. They are not going to the bin, as they were way too expensive, but they did kind of ruin my take on what should have been an awesome game.

Indeed, the warjacks are not too bad. But the caster, Agathea, is at a very low standard.
