Welcome one and all to my other blog. I'll be posting whatever new models come my way that don't quite fit into my legions abroad. Currently lined up is a trio of Stormcast Liberators! A post on them should follow this one. After them, I've purchased some windriders for an Eldar army I will most likely never continue!
I'll be updating this blog once per week to start, as my last blog lacked a certain schedule. But if progress becomes more frequent, so shall the uploads.
Thanks for checking me out,
JATW

As promised, here's the first update on my SE liberators. Going for a crimson and silver color scheme, along with various dulled down colors for that gritty feel. At the same time, this "host"(is that what they're called? WH lore escapes me.) has a fiery feel to it, thus the flaming plume on this first model. Obviously I am quite a messy painter, so touch-ups will soon ensue.
If you guys and gals have an Idea for a name for the host/chapter, let me know! And as always, feedback is more than welcome.
Thanks for reading,
JATW.

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Technicolor basecoat! Due to complications last week, here's a 2-week special!

Just like the rest of you lot, I picked up a copy of the latest WD, and it was phenomenal! If you haven't checked it out yet, you're really missing out!
Anyways, i got an obligatory slaughterpriest, which is really fun to paint. Going with a black-brass scheme instead of a red-brass to differentiate mine from the crowd. I also finished up the shield on my Liberator prime.
As always, thanks for reading, and your feedback is more than welcome1
Until next time,
JATW

With some spare time this weekend, I got down to GW and picked up some new models. Say hello to the DW, baby!

This will be an interesting project, with so many options! Planning to have a model for every archetype hero you can think of. Heavy hitter? Got 'em. Gunslinger? Locked and loaded. Also found a FW model at my store, not seen it before... May need to give it a shot.

With school in the clear for at least two weeks, this blog will get real, actual updates!
Relatively new to DD, I've entered my first competition on here. December being the open theme made it real easy for me join up with my new deathwatch chaplain. So far, not too bad imho. The crozius is near completion, the silver arm needs only a few touch-ups, and the bone isn't half bad. With limited paints and budget, i've been mixing and blending paints a bit, and the tones have worked out so far. But, let me know what y'all think, criticism is always more than welcome.

Thanks for reading,

Nice tones going on, would like to see a bit more contrast, but you say you have a limited palette at the mo, so fair enough.

Looks good. I feel the bone on the chaplain could do with an extra highlight to really make it pop.

@camkierhi Yeah, i've been working with my blending a bit to try and find a brighter color to go with the dark tones of the chaplain. My thought is highlighting the eyes to make them stand out a tad more. Perhaps on the silver DW arm as well?
@EDC i agree entirely. The bone is about to receive it's final highlights today, should have am update either today or tomorrow.

Entering the final week of December, here's what I hope to be the penultimate update of my entry. Almost all parchment has been written upon, i've changed the eye color to a bright orange, and provided a contrast with the pack spikes by giving them a "heated" appearance. Come the 31st, I should have everything done. Wish me luck!

My ancient "lab"

After posting the entry late last night, here comes the blog post! Here's my "finished" Deathwatch Chaplain.

After uploading, i have noticed multiple areas that i'll probably improve upon.
  • Improve black highlights, brighten it up significantly.

  • I need to blend the shades on the skull mask more smoothly

  • Finish the lower base. Gotta pick up some green stuff for that, probably my top priority for this model.

  • Coming into my first new year on DD, i've got a good sized list of resolutions and goals for the coming year.

    1. Post with more frequency and consistency. If I have something major accomplished, I need to post it.
    2. Paint as often as possible. Even if I only paint for 30 minutes a day, it's something. Starting now, i'm going to allocate time every day to get work done.
    3. Reassemble and repaint SM. I have an entire box of broken bitz from stripped minis, and a new tac squad. This will be the big project for at least the first half of 2017.
    4. Build one army over 1850 pts. Considering the previous resolution, it'll most likely be my Space Marines. But this includes painting every model. I have despised using grey minis for my recent battles.
    5. Paint more vehicles. Infantry are bland after a while, and that's the majority of my stuff right now. Several Rhinos will be necessary, but a predator or whirlwind will follow.

Thanks for listening, help holding me to these goals is always appreciated.
    Happy New year,
    JATW

Sit rep on my SM chapter:
Working on the basecoat now. Everything is done but the secondary armor color. That's currently up for debate, as I don't know what would work well with caledor sky. Either a khorne red or averland sunset, probably, but yellow seems to retro-marine.

Finally had the time to finish up the basecoat on my first marine in my old tac squad, went with purple as a secondary color. As it progresss, i might darken the blue a bit, for a night-like feel.

    My ancient "lab"

Definitely a major issue for me, my lighting. I didn't think of a chapter when I painted it, and now that I think about it, there are so many chapters with good schemes to use. After a rethink I have several options:
    A) might change the scheme to purple-red, as I have a DW marine with that chapter scheme i'm working on.
    B) Might go with UM. As i've said, I like the scheme, and it was my first army before I stripped the models.
    C) A well-known successor chapter. Possibly Hawk Lords, cause I like purple. I went through Lexicanicum's pictoral list of SM chapters. There's some pretty cool schemes, I just need to decide on one. I like my armies to have distinctly different colors.

I'll check 'em out Ustrello, thanks!

Update time, with semester finals approaching, i'm hit hard by work, but I should be able to produce something on the weekends. No less than one model, at least based, per week. With my entire SM army ahead of me, that sounds rather lengthy, but I'll get more time elsewhere.

Speaking of my SM army, here's the current lineup as of now:
  • 1 pre-2013 tac squad, stripped, 4 assembled, not primed.

  • 1 current edition tac squad, 7 assembled, but not primed.

  • 1 5-man scout squad, stripped,not assembled or primed.

  • 1 pre-2013 assault squad, stripped, 3 assembled or primed.

  • 1 razorback, assembled and primed.

  • 1 SM commander, not assembled or primed.

  • When they were first assembled, i had glued then rather horribly, so i'll be filing down the glue points soon, and possibly replacing some older parts with newer ones.

Well, after a Good bit of digging about, I have a entry for the monthly contest! With a theme of "rogues and scoundrels", I was hard pressed. My soldiers are anything but! However, my friend gave me an old sprue of DE bits a while ago, with enough bits for a full kabalite! Albeit the guys is relatively small, he'll be my entry into the competition. Going with a purple and poison-green theme here, have those paints down so far.

Weekend update time! Got the bone sword, flesh, and green squared away, and i'm pretty satisfied with him imho. All that's left to do is the purple plate, the gun, and the various accessories on his body.

Also, after a good bit of research and consideration, I chose a successor chapter with an entirely different color scheme, but gives me freedom in chapter tactics. Introducing... The Exorcists!

Also gave into my monetary demons and picked up a land speeder for my marines, my army now rounds out to about 850-900 points with wysiwyg upgrades, if i'm correct.

Thanks Nev, I'm pretty set on infantry, but another razorback/rhino would be useful for my 2nd tac squad, and a land speeder storm might not be a bad idea, but infiltrate is pretty good by itself.

This is gonna be the final push for my contest entry, all that's left is his gun, the gold, the purple, and his base.
This post was originally just to say, that my razorback/rhino is underway! This is only because I accidentally knocked over my khorne red, and spilled it on my palette, and i thought to myself, "well, i can't let this go to waste".
I'll be putting up progress pics tomorrow, hopefully my kabalite should be finished. If not, I have no school tuesday which coincidentally happens to be the final day.
