The other places I have put this blog are pretty much dead now, but Dakka looks very active so I might as well move here.

I have had this army going for a fair few years now and my progress is very slow and irregular. I want to make progress now since I have been playing again (we still play 8th edition and don't plan to change). Posting might help motivate me. Most stuff is work in progress so I am happy to take suggestions, I don't consider myself a great painter but I am willing to push myself and try new techniques.

My inspiration for the army came from a mix of really liking the Kraan model from Mierce Miniatures and liking polar bears in general. So I sought out to get as many into the army as possible. I now have 7 in my 2500 point list and have plans for a Hell cannon polar bear conversion.

My spiritual leader, Kraan (Exalted hero on demonic mount)

I want him to stand out but haven't figured out what to do for his armour yet.

His unit, Skullcrushers.

The bears were converted for me by spiralingcadaver.
I have started painting them, here is where I am going with the colours.

I have two chariots that I use as gorebeast chariots. One needs to be finished (converting) the other just needs its painting to be finished.

Second chariot:

I don't really know how to paint wood nicely so need to work on that with them.

A unit of 24 warriors, also WiP only front rank started.

The characters are my BSB, which is from Avatars of War and converted.

This is the first model I have painted where I tried more than just base coat and wash for the face, so I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

The sorceror is from Mierce as well.

That was my first attempt at OSL.

I have a unit of halberd warriors, which are from Avatars of War.

These warriors are what I am painting at the moment, the front rank is mostly done except for details but the photo didn't turn out so I will try that again when they are done.

The following bear I use as Scyla in my army. He is Ld10 so becomes my general which is sometimes bad but he surprisingly often does very well. I guess the opponents are busy focusing on the chimera, chariots and skullcrushers so he sneaks through. He is from Privateer Press.

Warhounds from the Space Wolf range.

They're going to be painted like wolves.

As my Chimera, I use a demogorgon model which I was fortunate enough to get from CentreStage Miniatures before they went out of business. Demogorgon was my favourite boss/monster in Baldur's Gate 2 so I had to add him.

I need to finish highlighting the green scales and I am not sure I like the purple so might change it to a different colour. His base is to show him being recently summoned. I like how the heads came out though, deliberately giving one a very warm feel and the other a very cold feel to represent them always being at war with each other.

Thats it at the moment. Comments, thoughts, suggestions welcome. Hopefully I will get a lot done over the next few weeks/months.

Nice painting and fantastic GS work, and it is really a very refreshing take on Nurgle. Completely unique

Awesome. 'Cool' theme, nice to see a totally new direction for a chaos army.

This is so silly I must follow.

Ah the nice memories from playing Victoria II as Polar Bear Iceland...

Jokes aside, it is a cool theme, and your work is pretty good, so I will be following with interest.

Thanks for the comments.

Currently working on halberd warriors front rank. WiP shot of the unit champion and standard.

Also working on the second chariot. I'm pretty happy with the wood at the moment, most of it still needs tidying up.

I got sidetracked for the past year or so playing and painting Kingdom Death instead of this army, but have recently started playing again so a little bit of progress. I decided to add a Hellcannon to the army! Of course with another polar bear.

Its very subtle but there is a bit of purple glow around the barrel of the cannon, I will strengthen that some more. I had these really old metal pink horrors and one fit well into the barrel so I thought that would be cool for a demonic/magic energy shot!

I was planning to have the Chaos Warrior on the back holding the cannon with chains (and I sculpted a bit of fur onto his arms for his beginning transition into a bear!) but placing him on the back now he looks a bit small to actually be able to hold the cannon since it is meant to be an ogre there.. So I'm not sure what to do about that at this stage, open to suggestions.

Bump and update after a few years!

Skullcrusher unit has a lot more progress, STILL shamefully not finished though.

Halberd unit has come a long way! I ended up doing a bit of a sprint and painting a lot of warriors within about two weeks during a lockdown last year.

Characters unit! My sorceror has his own familiar now.

Demogorgon is now booted out of the army just to sit on display with the others.
But he has been replaced with one of my favourite additions! A bear chimera.

My skull cannon has little dwarf bear crew now!

I used the spare rhinox to turn into a silly little spawn of nurgle.

And better shots of the two chariots.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Thanks for the comments!

Here is my new demon prince - with a rather large familiar helping him!
(75mm base)

And dire wolves painted

Also subtle little feature - I added blood splatter to all of my unit bases so that when models are removed as casualties there is something left behind where they used to be!

The daemon prince looks cool, but I love the blood splatter on the movement tray!

Blood splatter is very clever, that would look a lot better than an empty base!

I was originally going to make this 3D printed bear my daemon prince. But it was a little small -so I got it scaled up a bit. Turned out a bit much! Hes on a 100mm square base.

Now I may use him as a giant sometimes for a change up, otherwise centrepiece of my display case! Very fun model to paint.
