Hi all,

My local GW has started a new event this month using the Start Collecting box sets.

I went with the Blood Angels, as I can use them to expand my second Heresy army. So I will be doing a lot of conversion or kit bashing with Mk4 armour.

Either way, I have no idea where to start with these guys.

My opponents will be the same start collecting box sets of various races. I think it will come down to designation of what I want each element to functionally perform.

My Concept so far:

Baal Strike Force Formation
The Angel's Virtue - If this Detachment is chosen as your Primary Detachment, you can re-roll the result when rolling on the Warlord Traits table in Codex: Blood Angels.
The Red Thirst - In a turn in which a model from this Formation charges into combat, the model adds 1 to its Initiative characteristic until the end of the Assault phase.
A model that has made a disordered charge that turn receives no benefit from the The Red Thirst.

Blood Angels Carmine Host Formation
Once per game at the start of the turn; Feel No Pain and It Will Not Die special rules from within 12" of the Captain.

Its a tight squeeze. I contemplated splitting out into two 5 man Tac's but it's to many points!

I'll assume you either aren't playing WISYWIG or you're getting the missile launcher on the tactical squad from somewhere else.

Right so each Start Collecting! box has approximately a character, an infantry choice and a tank/walker.
Your Terminator Captain will be able to take on both characters and tanks using his Chainfist
Tactical squad can be combat squad-ed into an anti-tank squad with the missile launcher and an anti-infantry squad with the bolters.
Baal Predator is keyed toward anti-heavy infantry, which is a little awkward in this environment. Str6 and Str5 may find it difficult to hurt most vehicles or walkers but probably can, and it'll destroy any infantry you see.

So you have one melee anti-tank option, one ranged anti-tank option, one tank that can handle anything with volume of medium strength shots. Sounds like you'll make it against other Start Collecting! boxes.

just wondering why you wouldn't use him as Captain Karlaen? same points cost as your scratch built guy, but has a master crafted thunder hammer and has counter attack as a rule. i would consider this as karlaen for me is a very well pointed HQ.

i would tweak this ever so slightly, please see below

Assault cannon and Heavy Bolters is how i would always take a Baal Pred, flamestorm whilst good, just means your tank basically has to be in assault and/or melta range of the enemy to do damage.

i would consider the following:

Captain Karlaen - 160

Tac Squad - 70
Tac Squad - Missile Launcher - 85

Baal Predator - HB Sponsons - 135

=450

You have a legal CAD. good HQ, especially at this points level, two troops and a Baal Pred.

What's not to like?
