With the new formations and me finding a paint scheme I can live with I decided to do Alpha Legion with chaos rules since I already have 2 other very large 30k armies. Not going too chaosy, in fact I only have the mark of TZ on my term lord and his escort term squad because they are in cataphract armor. I think AL has remained relatively unmutated and haven't drank the Abbadon Kool aid so mine do not field any of the silly dino-bots that have turned me away from chaos in the past. This will be all infantry for the first 2k.

2k

Huron BlackHeart-Just using the guy for the skills, not for who he is. I'll come up with my own model for him.

Chosen Squad x10 5xmelta guns, Powerfist, melta bomb.

Tac Squad x15 2x plasma guns, powerfist

Tac Squad x15 2x plasma guns, powerfist

Raptors x5 2 meltaguns, melta bomb, lightning claw

Havocs x5 4 missile launchers

Havocs x5 4 autocannons

Terminator formation

Sorcerer- black mace, MK of TZ, lv3 mastery, spell familiar

Terminators x4 2 combi plasma, chainfist, powerfist, two lightning claws, mark of TZ

Terminators x3 3 melta combis

Terminators x3 3 melta combis

How does this look for general play in a relatively uncompetitive meta, I would rather not get my butt handed to me, but I am obviously not going hardcore either? Pretty certain it will get slaughtered in a tourney from what I remember when I used to actually play them. General idea is the chosen and one infantry squad(or both if I get lucky on Huron's roll) infiltrate forward to get to grips with the enemy. Odds are the raptors will DS in and obviously the terminators will come in by DS as well. Not used to playing smaller games so am trying to remember how they work with non-legion marines. I normally do not deal with psykers either so that will be new,

for upgrading past the 2k mark I plan on adding a contemptor mortis and a sicarian but baby steps. This is more an art project to look cool on the table than anything else.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

I love a fluffy list, but to be honest I think you'll struggle with this. I don't see much that really hits hard, and while you have the firepower to whittle away enemy units gradually I don't think your army has the staying power to pull it off. On top of that there are so many hard counters to the bulk of your army that aren't even competitive builds but just regular units that people field; large blast low AP shooting, high volume low AP shooting, dedicated CC units, superheavies/gargantuans etc.

What I'd suggest is, instead of the big units of infiltrating marines and chosen, split them into smaller units in rhinos. It ruins the Huron thing but with combi weapons on unit leaders you aren't losing much firepower and lots of units in transports makes your guys harder to kill and more likely to grind out wins by playing to the mission. Maybe just throw a cheap chaos lord into one of the rhino units instead of Huron, or even give him terminator armour and deepstrike with the other termies

I'm not too keen on termicide but better players than me seem to rate it so maybe it's alright. I think triple deepstriking helbrutes are more threatening for the same points, but obviously that isn't a formation that gives you the decurion bonuses.

This is all just my opinion though, there are far more knowledgeable guys on this forum than me so take it with a pinch of salt. I just don't think foot chaos marine armies can really work at the moment. I think if that was the idea I was going for I'd centre the army around fortifications, with an escape hatch mid table for some kind of mid game push onto objectives. That actually sounds quite fun... not sure how effective it would be but you could manage the black crusade decurion plus a CAD for the fortifications.
