Time for us to share our first teaser from The Broken faction.

The Broken consist of 'everybody else' in the universe who is desperately trying to flee. Their weapons are often jury rigged and consist of all manner of interesting base parts. This first preview is of the Harpoon that can be used as a special weapon:

The story 'Scraps', coming in next week's book release (Tales from The Edge: Emergence) features the use of an EMP boosted Harpoon in the hands of The Broken. Be sure to check it out when it is released!

Awesome! I've only just discovered this game, but it's got me really enthusiastic in just a short time!

Will the Broken get access to "refurbished" Epirian drones and such?

I could see Broken Spiders and Fireflies just one "Broken Upgrade" sprue away, with different weapons and some alternative pieces with a more cobbled together look!

Having the Broken get access to scavenge stuff from other factions would certainly keep in with their background, and I'm 100% certain that Yakface, Legoburner, and the rest of the team would happily encourage people to go wild with that scavenger/Mad Max look,

but still, if you include too much stuff from other factions, there's a risk you 'dilute' the uniqueness of The Broken.

They will have retain a lot of their own flavour.

Plus something about official Broken models to sell, as well.

They wont get them immediately in the core army lists, but it certainly fits the fluff. There's a lot of really great looking stuff in the pipeline for the Broken, so we are eager to give them their own identity first, then encourage looted and refurbished equipment from other factions after that.

I'm glad you are enthused by the game and universe! There is a huge amount of depth in Maelstrom's Edge compared to a lot of the other games out there, so there is a lot to enjoy!

That makes sense. Better for the faction to have it's own legs before it borrows too much from others!

And really, I'm way more enthused by this game than I expected to be!

I just finished the two-part novel series for the Battle of Zycanthus and really, as someone who has consumed a LOT of pulp sci-fi, it ranks up there with some of the most enjoyable I've read. Helped a LOT to get into the mindset of the universe you guys are crafting!

We continue our preview of the Broken with another weapon - a crudely retrofitted pistol. Fabric wrappings are a very common sight on Broken weaponry, and this long triggered weapon does a good job of showing the range of some of their designs. The long trigger allows the weapon to be fired away from the body, minimising risk to the firer when ammunition is unreliable or the weapon is overcharged.

I imagine designing a faction like the Broken has to be a challenge for a miniatures company. Instead of uniformity and stylistic cohesion, you're trying to communicate variety and bedlam, particularly in terms of the varied alien species involved. I'd imagine that designing a standard "grunt" sprue for a faction like that is much more difficult than doing one for the Epirians or Karists, for example.

Anyhow, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you do with the Broken.

Here we have the main weapon of the basic Broken infantry unit. A hastily assembled, durable shotgun-type weapon. Sculpting of this is already complete, and production of the Broken continues to march towards release at a good pace.

I'm extremely interested in The Broken - I just love their theme. Cool weapons so far, I want to see some aliens

Good post. I'm reminded of the Empire Militia kit, which had a ton of options to customise your troops, but was still able to tie in with the rest of the Empire stuff. Hopefully, we'll get something like that.

Of course, doing a multi-part plastic kit is not as easy as it sounds. There will be time, material and cost factors involved, but I think this will turn out well.

Very nice.

I suspect that people will buy into this faction to use stuff like this for other sci-fi games. That being said. ME is a very good game and I'm very much looking forward to see the Broken.

Here we are! Our first ever shared image of one of the concepts that is being sculpted for the Broken.

An infantry heavy army, the Broken are made up of desparate individuals who do everything they can to survive. Our initial range will be focused on those who have survived as members of the broken for a generation, with heavily recycled clothing, ragged yet trusty equipment, and a wide variety of poses, weapons and components.

I like it

It's got that Mad Max look to it, and I can see hints of the Epirians in there. Very nice.

Obviously, the main priority for you guys is to push ME 100%

but I can easily see people buying these for other game systems.

Don't take this the wrong way, I think ME is a very good game, but for me, it's gotten a bit 'samey' because there is only so many times you can use the existing factions, even when you swap forces!

Having a third faction is great news. I can't wait to start sniping away at the Broken with the Scarecrows!

Looks like the Broken will be easy cannon fodder types for people looking for 40K chaos cultists and other space rabble (rebels, pirates, Fremen, what have you). Conversely, anyone who already has any kind of sci-fi plastic minis should be able to mix-and-match bits into their Broken forces without any trouble. These guys should be convertapalooza.

I myself don't play 40k and am more interested in the Maelstrom Edge universe lore, but that sort of crossover selling potential can't hurt.
