Hey, new to 40k here and just joined the forum. Slowly building up a Dark Angel force and want to start trying to play with some other new people in my group. The biggest problem I'm having is trying to build a list. So i was hoping if i posted what i had if somone would give me a hand making a 1000 - 1500 point list. Anyways here is what i have so far

Everything Dark Angel from the Dark Vengeance Starter Set

plus

10-20 Tactical Marines

5 Deathwing Knights

1 Venerable Dreadnought

1 Drop Pod

1 Interrogator Chaplain

6 Assault Marines

Anyways any help would be super appreciated. Im not to concerned about how good the list will be, i hope to include the 10 terminators the Dreadnought and the Assault Marines if possible. But again this would be mostly a learning list so i dont want to get over my head.

Thanks Guy!

This is what I can up with. I tried to include everything you have. If you're like me, first game I played I wanted to use every mode I had haha. The only thing you'd have to proxy is the chaplain and say he has terminator armor. But at the very least it's give you a starting point. I used two formations to get to the 1500 points.

Dark Angels CAD (first formation)

HQ

Company Master - Artificier Armor, Combi-Plasma, Power Sword, Auspex - 145 points

Librarian - Shroud of Heroes, Mastery Level 2, Auspex, Force Sword, Bolt Pistol - 105 points

Elites

Venerable Dreadnought - Stock (multi-melta, power fist), Dedicated transport - Drop Pod with Deathwind missile launcher, locator beacon - 185 points

Troops

Tactical Squad - 85 points
Sergeant - Boltgun, Chaindsword
3 x Marines with Boltgun
1 x Marine with Plasma Gun

Tactical Squad - 85 points
Sergeant - Boltgun, Chaindsword
3 x Marines with Boltgun
1 x Marine with Plasma Cannon

Tactical Squad - 85 points
Sergeant - Plasma Pistol, Chaindsword
4 x Space Maribes with Boltguns

Fast Attack

Assault Squad - 107
Sergeant - Bolt Pistol, Chaindsword, Melta bomb, jump pack
5 x assault marines - bolt pistols, chain swords, jump packs

Ravenwing Bike Squad - 95
Sergeant - Chaindsword, Melta Bomb
1 x Biker
1 x biker - Plasma Gun

Deathwing Strike Force (second formation)

Interrogator-Chaplain, terminator armor, Storm bolter, rosarius, crozius - 140 points

Elites
Deathwing Knights - 250 points
Perfidious relic of the Unforgiven

Deathwing Terminators - 220 points
Sergeant - Power Sword
3 x Terminators - Power Fist, Storm Bolter
1 x Terminator - Power Fist, Assault Cannon

This comes to 1497 total. Your dreadnought in the drop pod comes in for sure on turn 1 and will help your terminators not to scatter with the locator beacon. Ravenwing bikers have the teleport homer to help them not scatter. Plus side to taking the DWSF is that you only have to role 1 reserve role for the whole formation. If I knew what weapons options you had other than what comes with the Darkvengeance stuff I could help a little more but at least with this list you can kind of get a feel for how each wing of the Dark Angels interact with each other. Hope this helps.

You're pretty close already to running a Lion's Blade Strike Force. It takes:

1 Assault Squad
1 Devastator Squad
1 HQ (either Chaplain or Company Master)

3 Tactical Squads

1 Auxiliary Choice

You already have most of this. You can get a land speeder and use it with your bikes to make a Ravenwing Attack Squadron. You could also just grab a 5 man scout squad and use them as a 10th company support choice.

If you choose to take 2 of these as your core choice, have a chaplain as HQ for one and the Company master as an HQ for the other, anything that can take a dedicated transport gets it for free. I like to run this a lot. I beef them both up and take a scout squad to sit on an objective in the back. It would give you 10 objective secure squads with 10 objective secured dedicated transports plus the HQ choices have it as well and are independent characters. AND they all still get to shoot full BS on overwatch.

Another plus side to this list is that, at lower points (like 1000/1500) they are very playable. You wouldn't get the free transport upgrade for a single lion's blade but they're still fun.

Lion's Blade Strike Force sounds like a good option to me. I had read a bit up about it.

I like the idea of Scouts, are sniper rifles any good?

The HQ i had thought of running was a Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain with a Mace of Redemption and Terminator Armour... If thats a thing... I like the mace and i like the fig lol... (again i dont know what im talking about yet)

It is definitely a thing (but I don't think he can take terminator armor and the fist) and he goes really well with the Deathwing Knights. I usually like to put them in a Land Raider Crusader and drive them right up to whatever they need to kill. You can deep strike them to but you really won't be able to take advantage of the Deathwing shooting rules since they don't have anything that actually shootst. I will say that i usually don't give him the mace of redemption just because he's really there to give my Deathwing Knights re-rolls to hit in the first round of combat. Plus He's kind of an auto take with them because they don't get an extra attack for two close combat weapons. Again, though, I don't put anything in him because the unit is already VERY expensive (more than a base Imperial Knight) with the Crusader but if you were looking to deep strike them it may be worth taking. Whatever you do, don't forget that the Deathwing Knights get hammer of wrath when they charge! I do all the time haha. And be careful deep striking these guys. Since they can't shoot they are pretty much sitting targets until the next turn. I landed them to close to an Executioner in one game that blew them of the table with a gak load of plasma blast.

Unfortunately you can't take an interrogator-chaplain in a Lion's Blade. Only the regular chaplain. Which kind of sucks but he can still give assault marines a re-rollable To Hit in the first round of combat.

Sniper Rifles aren't bad. You get precision shot, they always wound on a 4+. and if you roll a 6 To Wound they are AP2. If i have 5 points lying around i may through it into the scout auxiliary unit. They can camp an objective in the back and still be relevant to the game.
