Entered the event for the first time.

Didn't place, and certainly learned a lot about what to expect in the future (I am not a huge fan of public votes...)

Next year I know to focus on the board a lot more, that's for sure. To be fair, I decided I could enter the day before the event, and had no intention of winning, but a top three wouldn't have been out of order based on painting quality (in my opinion of course ).

Hope you like.

Nice looking army. Competing with 28mm scale models will be hugely tough with an Epic force --- rarely has the eye-candy that the larger models do. That's an uphill battle.

Force looks nice, but as pointed out, Epic will have a hard time competing with 28mm for painting scores as nothing stands out. From playing in dozens and dozens of tournaments across a few different game systems, you really have to cath people's eyes to get votes, and they follow it up with lots of neat things when they look closer.

Often the 'best' painted don't win as they aren't the most eye-catching and thus overlooked.

A dynamic display board helps a lot with this.

I'm no ace painter, but I made a crashd thunderhawk display board for a Grand Tournament a decade or so ago and got much much higher painting scores, event though the army itself was largely unchanged, lol!

Your army looks very nice, but you have no real board to display it on. I'd expect at a bare minimum to have the display board based the same as the army. You don't really have much of a display board. I wouldn't expect a top 3 for what is effectively an unfinished display.

Lovely to see those old epic Ork models. Fwiw you likely would have gotten my vote for the nostalgia alone lol.
