After weeks of vague Instagram photos and tweets, the first trailer for Logan has arrived. It can be seen above.

Hugh Jackman is reprising his role as Wolverine for the film being directed by James Mangold. Unlike previous Wolverine installments, Jackman won’t be buffed up and ready to fight. Instead, this version of the character will be an older, less ferocious version of X-Men’s most notorious mutant, one who’s suffering from chronic back pain and diminishing healing abilities.

The film is based on an eight-issue arc that ran in the main Wolverine series between 2008 and 2009 called Old Man Logan. Created by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Old Man Logan follows Wolverine as he travels across the country in a world where mutants are a rare breed. Based on the photos posted to Instagram and tweets on Mangold’s account, it appears that the director has plans to stick pretty closely to the comic.

Logan will be released on March 3, 2017.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Stick close to the comics? I highly doubt that, as the comics are featuring a lot of Marvel characters, that Fox has no movie rights for. Hulk/Hulk Gang isn't in it, they trailer already shows that. Hawkeye? Doubt it.
Not saying it won't be good, but I can't see it as a movie adaption of the comics.

It will be based on Old Man Logan, but it won't follow the story.

But yeah, that trailer looks incredible. The use of music, how desolate everything feels. It just looks like a very different X-Men film.

This is going to be stunning. One last hurrah for both Stewart and Jackman that looks like it's going to give them both a chance rally go deep into these characters, while still having plenty of action... Stripped back after the world-ending scale of Apocalypse and DoFP, a very different feel and tone...

I cannot wait.

Pretty excited despite knowing Old Man Logan could have been so much more, in a world where Marvel owned all their own IP.

Certainly looks better than AoA, which is an awful low bar to hurdle; at no point was I excited about AoA.

Hoooly moly that was a great trailer. Unfortunately my expectations rose way way high now, and the movie cannot possibly cash them.

Was that Hope, or Laura? I haven't read Old Man Logan.

Or at least something based on her, even if they don't use the name. The line 'Very much like you' combined with Apoc's post-credits scene points to her probably being a clone/Wolverine MkII.

Hmm, that makes sense. OTOH, didn't they say Cable was in? That would point to Hope. Or maybe it's a composite character of sorts.

Pretty sure Cable was mentioned for Deadpool 2 rather than this, so far as I know the only X-men we're getting in this are Logan and Charles... though I'm still holding out hope for a quick cameo from the original Cyclops/Jean/Storm/Rogue at some point in there, just to bring things full circle.

Yeah, Hope should be a redhead, while Laura (X-23) is dark haired. And the "very much like you" comment suggests Laura. I get the feeling Xavier is taking Hawkeye's role as his driving buddy.

The trailer looked well done, and pretty badass, but with how powerful the source material and them not being able to use most of the characters in it, I'm cautiously hopeful.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

This trailer is pretty BA even without sound. I know I will be seeing this on opening day.

That trailer did look pretty awesome. Doubt I'll see it in the theaters though since we don't get out to theaters much these days, but will definitely catch it on video at least.

I didn't expect patrick stewart to have hair. Or did the makeup guy glue some fuzz around back?

me thinks this might be their first major flop of a movie, it seems to artsy and thinking for this type of movie.

The trailers to DOFP had the same air, and that movie was pretty good. Not as good as its trailers, though.

DOFP actually had more action scenes in it and such, but the general overall feel of this movie is a man who has a child dropped in his lap to take care of and so on, also why is Xavier still alive?

It looks good but I really do hope there is some kind of time traveling hijinks at the end which brings Laura back to the 90s. So she can be the Wolverine in the 1990s set Xmen film, then reintroduce a recast Logan in the future.

Alternatively how would people like the idea of the film effectively being "all a dream?" EG it's Sinister showing Logan a possible future?

Time travel would cheapen any dramatic stakes in the movie. If the studio wants Laura in the next X-Men film, they can just put her on screen with a throw-away line about how "a mutant did it".

problem is she is not Wolverine, Hugh Jackman is Wolverine and that is how people see him, he doesn't want to be typecast as such which is why he won't be playing the part again but alas it is too late and something tells me we will be seeing him return to Wolverine.

Hugh Jackman is Logan. That's probably kinda going to be the point of the film...

And I imagine typecast worries isn't an issue (after all, Les Mis...) but more the fact that he has been playing a very physically demanding role that requires him to spend a significant portion of the film probably with his shirt of...

I'm not sure that Les Mis is an argument against him being typecast. If anything, it probably sealed the deal.

The takeaway talk about Les Mis's male star was dominated by Russel Crowe's uh, singing.

which is my point, outside of X-men how many notable roles has he had that helped him? very few, but the X-men universe will not replace him so easily with another "Wolverine" instead they will go down other avenues like DeadPool and Cable, but how will it effect their revenue stream is another story since Logan is a major part of their movies. and because of his longevity they couldn't replace him in the other movies like they did with Magneto, Beast and Xavier.

but on the other hand I feel they should have just kept him to the X-Men franchise instead of sprouting him out on his Origins series and own title series in the movies.

as it goes lets face it the X-Men franchise of movies is so all over the place and altered from movie to movie it will end up coming back to bite them on the behind, it has no continuity like the Avengers franchise does.

Hugh Jackman is an award winning actor/singer on Broadway. Movies are just one aspect of his acting.
