Here are the rumoured big discount boxes for this winter. The 40k ones are as in the picture (care of adeptus astartes in Facebook).
No pic of the aos stuff but the contents are as follows:
Stormcast - celestant prime, knight azyros, dracoth riders, 10 liberators, 5 Paladins
Slyvaneth - drycha, treelord 6 kurnoth hunters, 10 tree revenants. (This may be a mistake. It is a better deal than the rest)
Ironjawz - megaboss, shaman, 10 brutes, 3 goregruntas, giant.
Khorne bloodbound- skar, 3 juggers, blood warriors, bloodreavers, wrathmongers.
This comes from a user on bols who leaked the 40k sets before the pic turned up.
Price double start collecting £100 etc

That is a good Tau battleforce for a Tau beginner. If only I had that when I started. Ah well. I also like the DW one since I am looking to start that army. Also this says a lot about who the best selling armies are right now. The DW and Admech ones look like the best ones for saving cash if I'm looking correctly. Not familiar with space wolves enough to say.

AdMech is 208€ with single purchases.
If rumor holds true and they're about 120€.... Yep. Gimme one. Nah, gimme 2.

Nope none expected. These are some major savings and model bundle counts. I'm super happy to see the public adore DW as much as I did before anyone knew about it. Also good to see Tau selling so well both for GW and FW. I'm so hyped to see what's in store for us with the End TImes. Even if we get destroyed in the worst case scenario we'll go out in style.

The fun zone. Don't unspoiler if you don't approve of jokes or laughter on dakka. This is a trigger warning.

Yeah, but something is still better than nothing and these are rumored to be the largest discounts we've seen in some time.

Here is what seems to be included and what the kits add up to in US Dollars.
SW - $276: Dread, 10 Grey Hunters, 5 Terminators, 5 Fenrisian Wolves, Wolf Head Flyer, Iron Priest. Edit: Looks like there are 5 more models in the lot that I can't seem to find on the cover. Either its another 5 MEQs to make a 15 man bloodclaw squad or something like 5 long fangs or 5 skyclaws. Either way its even more value.

DW - $282 : 5 Bikes, 5 Terminators, 15 Deathwatch Kill Team, Razorback, Watch Commander. Its hard to make out because of that glare.

Tau - $275 : 3 Stealth Suits, Ghostkeel, Devilfish, Broadside, 10 Pathfinders, Commander.

Ad Mech - $263 2 Kastelan Robots + Priest, 3 Kataphron, 5 Electro Priest, 5 Infiltrators, Ironstrider.

I'm picking up my Blackstar, kill team, and DW Librarian this Friday so next year if somehow no notable Tau releases come out then we'll likely grab the DW one for sure.

That deathwatch box looks pretty juicy. Have to say, I was hoping for a new orks bundle though.

Too bad no IG, orks or eldar :( Space wolf is closest but we don't use much fliers in 2nd ed so the flier is bummer.

Hopefully they will expand these like they did start collecting sets

It is worth mentioning that these seem to be designed to complement the start collecting boxes. The only unwanted extra I can see is the tau commander. Is it OK to have two of those in an army?

They aren't unique so yeah. Legally yes. Whether it's cost effective is another thing. I think tau commander is also bit more flexible to build than many character clampacks so less of annoyance to have nth plastic commisar in identical pose and pretty much identical wargear(grumble grumble. For characters you need lots would be nice to have multipose model with lots of variant bits)

These seem like a seasonal box that will last until a certain amount of time or until they sell out. Start Collecting I think will remain as their launch point for players to expand to new armies and for new players who might not be interested in the current starter box.

Space Wolves - meh.
TAU - no Riptides and Surges, so meh.
Deathwatch - yay, more marines. Meh.
Skitarii - would rather buy FW robots. Meh.

Spare cash for this x-mas, wooh!

If you run a Hunter Cadre + a Retribution Cadre within a Hunter Contengeint then your going to need 2 Commanders. Have one be a buffmander for some Crisis Suits while the other can act as a drone controller for some marker drones.

Getting 2 of those AdMech boxes is a given.
You can build Ruststalkers and Infiltrators
Fulgurite and Corpuscarii
get extras or a 2nd squad of Kastelan
Dragoons are always good
And with the 2 sets of Kataphron magnetizing the main weapons becomes a breeze.

Worry not, for the Tau Start Collecting doesn't contain a Commander but an Ethereal instead.

Basically they picked what were top sellers and threw them more love instead of trying to even the score. The AOS set is particular annoying because they have 3 out of 4 Grand Alliances represented, and apparently gave Death the old middle finger to push more Sylvaneth. Also apparenty the Khorne one is the same as the old Bloodbound Expansion box, but cheaper.

These seem pretty milquetoast even by GW standards. 3 out of 4 40k armies are Imperium, 2 out of 4 AOS are Order, no Death anywhere to be found, and the Bloodbound one looks like a rehash (even with a lower price, that's still kinda lame).

Are we sure or just guessing? That said, you would think that GW would do this to the lesser selling armies instead of the best selling armies because most people would have these and not sell much of them.

I know nothing of Skittari. What makes this so good? It's the least minis out of 4 of them.

Gamgee wrote:Yeah, but something is still better than nothing and these are rumored to be the largest discounts we've seen in some time.

We are still over paying though. I guess we have been brainwashed to think these prices are still reasonable. We complained about these price 5 years ago. I know my pay hasn't gone up as much as GW prices did.

Nice. I'm hoping for plenty more good battleforce deals by the time my CSM army is done. I'll be watching for IG, orks and DE. The right units in the box and a stronger codex for any of those factions and GW can have my money
