I'm trying to get back into 40K, and I'm looking for a gaming group or a couple regular opponents. I live NW of Pittsburgh, so Legions would be the most convenient place to meet-up, but travelling a bit farther for good people would be worth my time

A bit about me:
  • I have several fully-painted armies and several that are works in progress.

  • I'm older. I have a job, a family, and kids.

  • More interested in narrative games/campaigns than tournament-style list building and competitive play.

  • Basically, looking for adult, non-cringe people who enjoy 40k for the hobby side of the game.

Good game last night, bud. Still LFM for Friday/Saturday nights at Legions. I would love to get started on a proper narrative campaign with a couple more dedicated hobbyists

Where NW of Pittsburgh are you? i live in Grove City about an hour north. There is a club here or Legions is an option!

The people I mostly played with have went on hiatus at the moment. We played at Fantastic Games in Columbiana OH (probably an hour away from you). I have been to Legions and I have been thinking of coming back to the game, so I am subscribing to this thread to keep an eye on interest.

I too am more of a narrative player and my lists were more fluff/fun than competitive.

Hope you could make it out if your interested in coming back to the game. Myself im still on the newer side of the game but the fluff makes it fun imo. Would deffinatley like to get a narritive campain get started!

Dunno if any of you have already found out about this, but there's a group on Facebook which is very active where you can meet/talk with a lot of the Pittsburgh area crowd. They'll post events for various stores in the area, info about narrative apocalypse games, etc. It's a decent-sized group.

Plenty of 40k players, and Bolt Action, FoW, DZC, Malifaux, AoS, 30k are all represented, and some other stuff as well.

There's a 1650 40k Tournament coming up in the area in about 10 days' time, too, for anyone interested.

Sorry for the delay in replying...

Back in my younger days, I'd occasionally drive up to Bell's Comics and play in their tournaments, amd some of the guys from up there would drive down to our tourneys at Legions. If it's something you'd like to do on a regular basis, send me a PM and we can work something out.

As long as you're okay with the drive, we'd love to have you for a game or two. Right now, it's just me and a newer player getting together every couple-few weeks relearning the rules. LMK.

Unfortunately, I'm not on Facebook. I know there are a fair number of 40K players on Friday, but most of what I see going on doesn't interest me. Playing pickup games and hoping the other guy didn't bring a Decurion/Skyhammer/Riptide Wing doesn't sound like a good use of anyone's time And most tourneys I've seen lately at Legions don't even bother with a 3-color minimum.

The scene at Legions is definitely in overdrive as far as competitive lists are concerned, but discuss things with your opponent a bit and you can find something just fine. Certainly a lot of people around for a game!

As to the 3-colour-minimum, no, they don't require painted armies to play; they have a slightly higher buy-in cost for armies that don't meet that minimum, and (perhaps obviously) such armies will not be considered for the painting awards. It increases the turnout significantly when you don't create those barriers for newer players looking to get their feet wet in a particular aspect of the hobby.

We certainly do encourage people to paint their models as they may, of course, and those of us able to do so will provide guidance and tips wherever possible or requested.
