With only two weeks to go until the new year, I thought I'd get the ball rolling on new years hobby resolutions. Also gives two weeks to plan, prepare, and buy anything now that I might break my resolve over later.

Mine is to not buy any models for at least six months, and to catch up on the backlog. I want to finish painting;
Space hulk (been in the cupboard for two years now)
Operation Red Veil (built and ready to go)
My 30k Iron Warriors (about 2k needs doing, including Perturabo)
And my Zone Mortalis stuff. (details need adding to all tiles, all doors, terrain need doing)

What about everyone else? Also, how do you rate your chances? I'm optimistic at present...

Bit less ambitious than you! I would like to finish painting my current CSM army, but more realistically I'd like to finish all the stuff I've got half-done - Kharn, Daemon Prince, Berzerkers, Obliterators, Terminators. Hell at the moment I'll settle for finishing off Kharn and the DP...

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Okay, I'll bite. My resolutions:

Buy no new models (spending on hobby supplies is ok like if I run out of certain paints) for at least 6 months. Only exception might be a box or two of Ravenwing Black Knights, because I need a few more of those guys, and the remaining things I need for my Battle Company. My wallet needs a breather.
Finish assembling all my models that are currently in bits.
Get one whole 40k army (not necessarily entire collection, but enough to field 1850 points) fully painted and based. I've been missing out on painting points in local tournaments for far too long.
Fully paint all of my Dark Angels flyers. I've been itching to run the Silence Squadron, but two of my flyers are still on sprues!
Set up a proper bits box so I don't have to keep searching boxes of kits to find that one elusive weapon (or other bit). Then I can finally throw all those kit boxes away, which will save a ton of space.

I'll probably post more detailed goals in my P&M blog whenever I do my end of year review of my hobbying.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

For me, it's paint but also improve my painting. I want to be able to say that i challenged myself to try new and more difficult things at the end of the year.

1) Avoid buying any more miniatures until I have my current stock assembled & painted

2) To actually play every game system I do own, at least once - and get rid of the ones I have no desire to try a second time

3) Finish my custom redesign of 40K and get some playtesting in

I don't think I'll get 100% on these three, but I would be happy if I could about 60% or more. Especially cleaning out the unused games - I've got a few hundred pounds (in weight) of old D&D material I need to jettison.

It never ends well

I’ve been recycling the same resolutions for the last few years. Need to modify them this year.

1 Finish painting the odds and ends from my friend's SOB army that I worked on. Just a handfull of arcoflagelents, spare immolater weapons, some IG HQs .
2 Paint more then I buy.
3 Make a display board for my army. I've had the sheets of foam insulation waiting to be carved for years, never get around to it. Moving into a smaller space soon, not doing large display projects
4 Base my army. Someday this will happen. Based everything over the last year
5 Paint my spare bits. I've magetized a number of things, painted the primary set up, but never get around to doing the other options.
6 Try to get more games in.
7 Update my blog at least once a week, and maintain a consistent pace of work (1 mini a week).
8 Get my Eldar army to a larger level, 2 more full squads minumum, with viable 1,500 or 1,850 point lists being stretch goals. only have a handful of minis left to paint remaining.
9 Enter and finish an entry every month for the painting challenge. If the monthly challenge stops, enter at least one comp in the year. In addition, paint something odd from the back of the bench a/o try out a new technique every month.

1) No new factions or game systems. Stop it already.
2) Sell or trade armies I'm not going to get to.
3) Nothing NIB by the end of the year.
4) Paradoxically play less games for GW systems pending rules adjustments. Recent games are killing my motivation to paint.
5) Only purchases to be storage/transport, hobby supplies and rules deemed an upgrade on what is available now. Please make 8th and GH2 actual improvements. Given their progress in unexpected areas I am actually hopeful.
6) Build and paint!

No new models with the following exclusions:
Daemons are okay
Knights Models Marvel X-Men and the girls for a Batman gang are okay
30k box sets like BaC and BoP are ok

Get rid of stuff I don't use. Anyone wanna buy a ton of Dreadball stuff? Take literally everything I have for $165 (this is including the shipping cost of an estimate of $15). Seriously, I'm selling the stuff I'm not getting to.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

1) Paint everything. Until this happens there is no step 2.
2) Buy, build and paint a blob of metal flayed ones if they ever become available on M2O.
2) Buy, build and paint two Canoptek Harvests.

I think that my goals are very realistic and restrained.

Well my goal for this year was paint more than I buy. I've painted 180 models and brought...... Oh dear god let's not talk about it. Let's just say a failed by a noticeable margin and move on. Damn you clearance sales at stores I regularly walk past.

Goal for 2017 year is the same. The main way I'll deal with this better is not allowing myself to buy new models until that many old ones are painted. I'll also try to avoid starting any new army's or systems with the exception of the halo ground game which I've been eying up for a while, so if I see that on sale cheap I'll properly go for it at some point.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Painting more and buying less is all I really want to do. If Daemon Primarch Mortarion and new Nurgle models are released, I may have to splurge, but other than that and maybe two Drop Pods, no other models shall be purchased.

Hiding behind terrain

1. Assemble the stuff littering my desk.
2. Finish terrain projects and throw away any cardboard or junk I'd been keeping that isnt needed.
3. Paint 1 model during the year. This one will likely end up broken just like every other year.

A pretty simple rule I was able to follow in 2016 until silver tower came out. Paint 2 old minis for every new mini I buy or 10 for every new monster or vehicle. (Painting a monster counts as 10).
If I can stick to this, I should have my backlog cleared in a couple of years.

Buy literally nothing unless the model or box has the words "sisters" or "battle" or "adeptus Sororitas" in it.

Seriously I have so many projects I could not buy a model for 2 years and not run out of projects.

Honest to god is just two
1: Paint all I have. My Airbrush have made my White Scars simple
2: Eventually, not saying how. but get it so my Rhinos can be Razorbacks aswell. With the option of Assault Cannons, Bolters and Las
3: Related to one, but dont strip any more miniature and live with the fact that, for now, Not all my marines are on 32MM

I'm going to try to keep things simple for 2017.

1, In the interests of my wallet and backlog, back fewer Kickstarter projects this year (having just done a count and realised I backed 21 in 2016).
2, Aim for a 2:1 painted:purchased ratio is 2017. Please note that this will reflect new purchases only - any o/s mail orders or Kickstarter rewards from this year will not count against this.

Buy more stuff. I've been on a hobby restriction for the past year or so due to unrelated issues and I want at least 6 lake town houses for a board, an army of Iron Hill dwarves, more lake town militia/guard to fill the board, to get my Sylvaneth properly underway and redo my paint collection. To start with.

Edit* I forgot to add my Easterlings to that list. Which is the next immediate project.
