The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Especially once they find out his late wife also got him a swanky bathroom remod just before passing away...
WE PICKED THAT GROUT TOGETHER AND YOU TOOK THAT FROM ME!!!
First one's one of my favourite action movies this one looks to be off to a good start.
Sort of hope they don't go too far down the secret society rabbit hole. Having it as background texture was neat but I'm not sure if it would hold up to being the main story driver.
Do yourself a favor and see it. Saw it last night for the first time and it is EXCELLENT.
If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

Me neither. I was looking through the Sky store last night trying to find a film to watch and it looked interesting until I read the blurb. I didn't end up renting it....

You should check it out. It actually works out really well, far better than it has a right to be honestly. A surprise hit.

"Well sir, he stole John Wick's car and shot his dog."
"Oh."
Agreed that moment was good.
Same here. That part was great because you instantly know that John is someone you simply do not F with because this mob boss fella suddenly had his butthole pucker a little bit just hearing what happened.
Ill check er for sure the first one was such a surprise I wasnt expecting. Good for Keanu for being able to still make movies I want to watch

That and the lesson all would be villians in movies should remember, you may beat a man, torture him or imprision him. But if you steal his car and kill his faithful dog prepare to meet a bloody and violent demise.

Watched it last night actually, got tired of my pals banging on about it. Fair warning, unless you can switch your brain all the way off, not just into sleep-mode, don't bother yourself. It has lots of well-shot and choreographed action scenes...and that's it. The story isn't so bad it's good, it's just bad - really? Some thugs killed a wee doggie, and you're expected to go along with the idea that a proportionate response is to murder the person who killed the dog, the people who were with that person at the time, the person's family and friends, and seemingly every person who worked for that family plus any innocent bystanders who happen to get stuck between One Man Moron and his targets.
Anyone who's not put their brain all the way off and continued watching purely for the head-splosions who hasn't stopped rooting for Keanu(because he's still essentially playing the same character - himself with a slightly growly voice) after the club is, straight-up, a sociopath.
Do yourself a favour and watch/rewatch Deadpool, at least that's funny.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
He killed people that were trying to stop him from killing the people he wanted to take revenge on. Then he killed some more people for a new, related, reason.
He even gives the doorman at the club the chance to duck out.
For the genre, 'well-shot and choreographed action scenes" would be a win by itself.
It also has solid dialogue, creates a vaguely intriguing 'world' without needless explanation of said world, has solid acting, and a well integrated sound track.
I am a brain dead sociopath though, so take the above with a grain of salt.

I think this, especially the last bit, is something John Wick deserves more credit for. The film is a good lesson on how to world build without having someone providing long monologues.
