By regiments of renown I mean "elite" or well known regiments like "Carroburg Greatswords", "Stirland's Revenge", "The Mountain Guard", etc. I was wondering if there is anything special about them (Other then being painted differently).

The only regiments like that, named regiments through the Old World history, which have rules are in the Regiments of Renown section of the Dogs Of War list.
