Hey guys, figured you might want to see this. My buddy and I had been planning a big game of X-Wing for a while, we had decided to do 600 points a side. Originally our game was to take place over our long weekend we got for Christmas, it got pushed back until today. It was tons of fun, neither of us had done a game bigger than 150 points until today. It was madness.

that looks super cool. What were the list if you remember?

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

My guess is everything.

That looks really awesome though, how long did it take to do? And would you recommend large games like this? Or would a smaller giant game be q better idea?

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Color me green with envy. I want to do that.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.

What I find is most impressive is that there are 1200 points on the board and only 3 large base ships.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Hah, yeah. All we really did was take our standard lists and just compile them all into one. The five Strikers (well four, and a Phantom proxy) were a recent addition to the other five lists. I will list just the pilots I ran, if anybody wants to know what I ran for upgrades I can lists them out, but I don't plan on doing that because the list would be so long haha. What I brought to the table was;

TIE Advanceds
Vader
Maarek
Juno

TIE Interceptors
Soontir
Turr
Carnor

TIE Defenders
3x Glaive Squadron Pilots

TIE Bombers
Jonus
3x Gamma Squadron Veterans

TIE Fighters
Howlrunner
Scourge
Mauler Mithel
3x Black Squadron Pilots

TIE Strikers
5x Scarif Defenders

My buddy who was playing Rebels had to change his lists a little bit, I generally make my 100 point lists all of the same ship type (I love the uniformity of it), so it made it a bit easier for me to compile them all.

It's always surprising how few models the game translates into. My favorite way to the play the game is 400 pts with 2v2 Epic and one huge ship per side.

Well, it was sure as heck fun. If we were to do this again, it probably wouldn't be at a store. We would want to do it at one of our houses so that we can drink a beer or two and have somewhere comfy to sit and take a break. We are hoping to do it again, to see if the results will be different. My buddy noticed that he deployed his big ships in a way that I was able to keep them out of the fight for a while with blockers. It allowed me to mop up the other side of the board with overwhelming numbers and keep a lot of my ships in good shape due to the lack of return fire while (old) Han, (new) Chewie and Dash kept bumping and trying to maneuver around each other. And, since Chewie was just surrounded by big ships, his ability to fire when a friendly ship is destroyed did not go off very often before he went down.

We are going to try refining our lists 200 points at a time and see if we cant make them more efficient.

YT-1300

-Chewbacca (HOTR)

YT-2400
-Dash Rendar

A-Wing
-Green Squadron x5

B-Wing
-Keyan Farlander
-Nera Dantels

X-Wing T-65
- Wedge Antilles

E-Wing
-Corran Horn

W-Wing T-70
-Poe Dameron
-Ello Atsy

ARC-170
-Norra Wexley
-Shara Bey

Y-Wing
-Horton Salm

The biggest problem that I think we had with this game was the fact that it was so large and so many smaller things going on it was hard to keep track of it. I would say that if we did this more often it would get easier with time but the game lasted around 5 hours including set up and tear down, we still didn't even finish it within that time frame. The biggest problem I had wit it personally was placement and movement of ships, normally I try to think about 1 to 2 movements ahead but in this game you had to think about 6 moves ahead for 19 ships instead of 2 moves ahead for maybe 5 ships.

You've just discovered why hardly anyone plays games like this. It seems fun in theory but X-Wing scales pretty badly to point levels above ~100-150ish. There's just too much going on to keep track of it all, and too many ships for movement to involve much more than a giant ball of death in the middle of the table.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Me personally think that this size games is better played with only a few named aces on each side then all of the others being rookies etc. Makes it easier with pilot abilities etc.

My two cents any way

: 4500pts

Lothlorien: 3500pts
Rohan: 1500pts
Serpent: 2000pts
Modor: 1500pts

I'd have taken the opportunity to field an Epic ship.

Higher PS generics must shine if only one side thinks of taking them and most of the pilots are mooks. If you can just mass enough firepower against a segment of the board instead of firing willy-nilly, then you dramatically reduce the incoming firepower.

I applaud you for this, I think my brain would have burnt out with everything to keep up with after the second or third turn.

The lack of large ships on the Imperial side is odd.

As others have mentioned, I'd like to see a variant with, say 400 points apiece - with only one Ace allowed per 100 points.

...or a 3-way with Scum

It never ends well
