Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Hello, this is the first time I have posted on this board and this is also the first time I have attempted to produce a painted model at a high standard (my standards ).

I am pleased with the model itself, it is the best model I have ever painted, but when I compare it to the models posted on this site it seems a bit underwhelming. Could the veteran painters out there please give me some tips: what I did right, what I did wrong, do I need to buy more paints, more tools, etc. Any help will be greatfully excepted.

One last thing, besides not being a very good painter, I am not a very good photographer as well. These pictures were taken on my phone and magnified by a work lamp/magnifying glass I have, so sorry for the quality.

Nice design and conversion, I too love to corrupt loyalist models into faithful followers of the dark gods. Well done on that aspect.

On the other hand, the pictures are a bit frustrating indeed as they don't show as much of the details as I would have liked to see. I would suggest using an actual camera, with a macro mode or an manual focus in order to get better results. Having something to place the camera on instead of holding it will also surely help with the end result.
You did get the lightning right though, which is why the colors show up nicely (cool mutated flesh tone btw).

Regarding the painting, the pictures unfortunately do not allow me to get into details, but from what I can see, using a dark wash (e.g. agrax eartshade) on the metallics could do some good.

Aanyway, this is cool project to see, thanks for sharing, and keep up the heretic work !

EDIT : I know some guys here use phone cameras, maybe they'll have some thoughts on that. I just personally never managed to get a good result with mine.

I like it you've captured the modelling aspect of a warped and corrupted shining knight very nicely

I won't comment on the paintwork as mine's hardly stellar either! All I know is that looking back I have definitely improved with practice. See if you can pick up a bundle of Daemonettes from eBay cheaply. I guarantee the 20th one will be a lot better painted than the first!

Oh, and I've come up with a semi-expanded Shadow War idea and need some feedback! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/726439.page

I know what you mean about the metallics, I thought it came out a bit too solid. Thanks for the tip, I'll see if I can get into town and grab some dark wash.
Also knew, better, pictures below. (Still on a phone but one with a better camera)

I am going to try to repaint a lot of my models anyway, I am leaning slighty towards the creative side of the hobby than the gaming side at the moment and looking back I am a bit disapointed with how some of my models look. I hope I am a bit better by the time I have finished repainting my models. (I hope... )

Yeah I've found that washes like Nuln Oil do wonders for shading metallics while still keeping their shine dead simple to do as well.
