I've recently had the itch to paint some Black Templars. I don't know if it's the Gathering Storm stuff, the desire to paint a different scheme, or just because I hate the psychic phase so much, but I started working on some of these guys. I did up a few test models, namely a pair of Sword Brethren, an Initiate, and their Marshall, Siegward:

Next, I've got a stack of 10 Initiates and Helbrecht on the painting table, and plenty to go. The idea behind this army is to get as many of the bits and kits I've had lying around forever and put them to use in a coherent army. Of course I ended up buying a few Tactical squads and Black Templar accessory sprues, but hey, I had to start somewhere, didn't I?

I finally got around to painting the 30th anniversary Marine, and I did him up in the old Field Police colors:

Nice. Love the field police. Need to make one myself to stick in a command squad.

Those are some lovely Templars!

I want to start a Templar army now...

TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

I see you've taken the same steps to highlight as I did, but it looks like you've had more practice than me!

It's all practice and cleanup! I've found that going back and tidying up highlights is what really takes models up a level.

They look really good, especially the guy with the caution line down his snout.

... I know that's pretty much the exactly wrong terms for that but i mean it looks really nice.

Helmet Stripe is the term you are looking for.

No,no, its a caution line. It means "My face is not a step."

Really well done, SRM The anniversary model really does steal the show.

This is exactly what I found too. It's still a lot of work though! This is what makes me happy I picked the army where every model is hilariously expensive points wise.

Thanks! They're slowly but surely growing; I've got about 50 Marines worth of bits and pieces here to put together a force at the moment...

Any chance of getting these guy on the table to purge some heretics? You working up to a full army, or just a few squads for fun?

Looking great either way.

The concept for this army is largely to just clear out the bits and kits I've got lying around that I've never put to good use. That means they'll be getting an assault squad, at least two more tactical/Crusader squads, some Sword Brethren (vanguard veterans - I've got both the Sword Brethren models and metal GW veterans), the command tank set from Warhammer World, and a few characters. Once I get through some of that stuff I'll look into giving them a Stormraven, and I'd really like to give them a Dreadnought based on the Forgeworld one or the old BT Dreadnought conversion that's in the old Codex: Armageddon.

Great work with the painting so far. Very clean and consistent. The bases also turned out quite nice. I haven't seen very many Black Templars with a winter theme.

Thanks! I've been basing most of my armies that way for a while now, as it's quick to do, looks good enough for my tastes, and lets me ally them all together when I want to.

Finished the first 5 Sword Brethren for my Templars. My lights totally blew out these guys though, gonna figure something out differently for the next set of photos.

As a bonus, I was trying to figure out how I'd paint my jump packs separate from my Assault Marines, as they really get in the way. A drill, some PVA glue, thumbtacks and MDF cutoffs later, and we've got a solution!

A squad of them is awesome. Definitely an important unit in the army I think, or even use as "Sergeants". Well done!

Painted up some Neophytes for my Black Templars. The transfers fethed up a little bit but I'm real happy with their helmets:
