Monster-Slaying Daemonhunter

Dimmamar

Hi Guys! Went to LVO for the first time, my first GT, and had a grand time! I got top GK player at the tournament, so I thought I'd share my list and give a brief rundown of what I faced.
GK isn't a top tier army, but considering I placed 43/391, got top GK, and murdered both Daemons I faced (moral victory AND actual victory!), I thought GK players might want some insight into what I found that works.

LIST THOUGHTS:
Spoiler:
So I always kept Libbys and Draigo together. In most games I'd put them with the servitors and have a nice little star that deleted a unit a turn. Twice, though, I got the "T1 DS reroll scatter" trait, and I put those three ICs with the Strike Squad, with some interesting results I'll tell you about in a minute.
The Libbys: DLD rolls on Sanctic until I get Sanctuary, and maybe Cleansing Flame. Vortex is also nice for a threat bubble (D vortex scares some people into making bad decisions), but I literally never use it. The other Libby goes on Divination for Forewarning, Perfect Timing, and Prescience. Precognition is a good situational touch. The Bone Shard almost never comes in handy, but when there ARE Daemon monsters having two 2++ instead of just one is very handy.
A lot of people ask me about the Psilencer on the one NDK. They think it's not worth it, that an incinerator is better, that two guns is too much, etc etc. That psilencer, though, is key against a variety of builds. Screamer Star, Hound Star, Bark Star, Iron Hands FnP Star, and MCs of all types (other NDKs, Tyranid bugs, Daemon monsters, DE monsters), all it takes is a single failed save, which is worth the Force casting and the 30pts.
I do like the incinerator on the other, to shunt/burn Tau infantry or anything with a silly cover save (Nurglings, Skitarii, SM Scouts).

Grav speaks for itself. I prefer Servitors over Centurions for two reasons: more shots for significantly cheaper price and allows the unit to Sweep.

The Eldar replaced two Inquisitors: Coteaz and Rad Grendaes. While the Inquisition was more fluffy and made my Death Star ridiculously unkillable, I lacked board control and Maelstrom ability.
Eldar jetbikes are fast enough to get to objectives, and ObSec makes them easily able to deny enemy objectives. I'm still learning how to use them, but in 4/6 games at Vegas they won me the game. The list is MUCH stronger with them than without them.

GAMES:
Spoiler:
1.First game was against War Con with inquisitors and Culexus. I got mostly obliterated, but Bikes scored me tons of Maelstrom objectives, we tied on Emperor's Will, and I won 8-3. I didn't kill the Knight, but a good Gate and Cleansing killed all the Skitarii by turn 2!
2.Second game was against my worst matchup: Baronial Court. I got tabelled, which didn't surprise me, but I managed to remove 18/30 HPs from the buggers, so that felt good. An unlucky save against HoW meant that I only killed one instead of two Knights, but oh well.
3.Game three was against WS Battle Company with Purge the Alien. There were SOOOO many kill points--I think I got 10KPs from transports alone. I definitely won the Purge, and lost the Maelstrom, and we ended up tying. He was pretty salty and not a fun opponent. He did not like my bikes at all, which for a guy with free transports was, I thought, a petty thing to complain about.
4.Game four was against Daemons. I don't get to play Daemons often, but I love doing it for the thematic element: it's my purpose as a Daemonhunter! He had Oracles (two LoC and Fatey), a CAD (four Brims and 9 Screamers) and Anarchic (four Tzeralds on discs). He was afraid of the Psilencer and scats, and so castled up out of LoS in a corner. Fortunately for me he gave me T1 and I got the DS trait, and I took a big gamble--I went for the corner! Well, he fell for the trap and charged in the Warlord LoC and the whole Screamer Star. I had Force up, so that was a very poor decision on his part, but he had got Cursed Earth and Grimoire, so I think he felt good about his chances. It didn't go well for him--he lost the Lord and the whole Star (9 Screamers and 4 Tzeralds) bottom of T1--the Lord to Force and the Screamers mostly to Instability. Top of T2 I charged the newly summoned Fiends, a Nurgerald, and some Brims and killed them all. The rest of the game was mopping up. Massive victory for the Inquisition over the forces of darkness
5.Game five was against another GK player! Unexpected and fun matchup, but the player was pretty intense. She was really into her ITC standing and thought she could get ITC Best GK by the end of LVO, so she was really set to waac. Her list was Skyhammer with mostly melta, naked Libby with 5 Termies, 2NDKs, and 3x3 DA bikes with a Libby. She reserved everything except the DA bikes and gave me T1. I put the bikes on the table and the Star, but left the NDKs in reserve bc I feared the DP grav/melta. I killed 8/10 bikes on T1, even with their crazy Jinking. She was very upset, but Perfect Timing grav was just too devastating. One NDK came in T1 and I used it to hold an objective, since there wasn't much else going on. Her Skyhammer was not very effective--she killed my NDK, but didn't touch the Star, which I considered an acceptable loss. It was a very quick game even though we made it to T6, and I tabelled her. She was insistent, even after recounting the Maelstrom points, that she had won on Maelstrom, but I firmly and repeatedly pointed out that not only did I win Big Guns (8 Heavy Support points in my favour, to her 1), I had got 9 Maelstrom to her 7. So it was a definite win for my GK build over hers. And considering her ITC standing (which is reasonably high), I feel really good about calling myself a top GK player, even if I don't get to as many events as I wish I could.
6. Game six was Daemons again, a nearly identical build to game 4. It was a very up and down game, definitely the best and most exciting of the tournament, and he was a canny and experienced opponent. But I eeked out a 7-6 win, and that was that!

So, any thoughts or feedback is greatly appreciated! I'm super excited to have done so well at my first GT, and proud to show that GK can still make the top 11% of US 40k players! We're still in the game, even with a sub-par 6e codex! Yeah!

Congratulations for placement!
The list looks really good. No Tau or Eldar opponent? Baronial Court can be a pain.
How about integrating an IK?

Congrats on the win, man!

Its interesting that you didn't come across any Eldar or Tau.

I think against a Battle Company a Knight would be pretty great. I could probably kill a transport + unit per turn, or maybe even up to three if I took dual guns.

The problem is points. Where am I gonna get 400 points? Can't lose the grav. Dropping both NDKs seems like a bad idea. Dropping Draigo means my tiny star would just melt away like snow in Florida.

It's a solid list to be fair and I agree, adding a knight wouldn't work.

The more a list is finely tweaked the less you can change about it.
At this stage taking out any of the units could drop it's effectiveness unless replaced with something near identical.

I don't feel a knight could add to this given what would have to be removed.

This is really exciting to read, especially because I am also a Grey Knight player who has been trying to work Eldar in.

A question I have though is why did you opt not to include a Wraithknight? You have a slot available for one in the Eldar CAD and there's multiple ways you can fit one in. Dropping Draigo and 1 or 2 upgrades, for instance.

This isn't actually a criticism of your list. I'm honestly just trying to learn.

I'm also curious why you opted for the Banshee Mask and Scorpion Sword on the Autarch. Scatbikes don't seem to do well in melee so what is he going in with that avoiding Overwatch is important?

I would've really liked the Skathach, but I don't own the model and couldn't get my hands on one. Otherwise I would've prolly included one and dropped a NDK.

I would definitely NOT drop Draigo. The grav unit is what keeps this build relevant, being tough and mobile, and without Draigo it's extremely vulnerable AND immobile.

The Autarch is a bike tax, as well as a model that's very easy to hide on a Maelstrom objective. He did amazingly well in my IK game, causing 3HP of damage on the Warlord the turn he dropped in.
He has the sword and Mask so that he can do a bit of damage in assault against a cheap unit and not die to OW. Against Daemons he killed two Brim units by himself. Pretty good atc.

keep playing your list. Make any tweaks you might need as you get better with it. I wouldn't make any major changes. In most cases its about how experienced a player is with there army then the effectiveness of the units.

Yeah I think that's true. I saw myself improving with the jetbikes over the course of several games--that was my newest unit and they do take some getting used to.
