how nice of GW to let usual shenanigans go on...

They outright said from the beginning that Leviathan was a launch box.
Launch means splash release, not permanent range item.

And?

They still could've stated they'd print as many as were ordered. Boom there, scalping resolved.

Because this is merely FOMO shenanigans

lol, this isn't even them officially saying anything. This is Valrak rumors.

And frankly? You can STILL get Indomitus from the initial run in some indies that overordered.

Fun fact from the combat patrol battle-report (if you can catch it in the blink and you'll miss it editing):
https://youtu.be/bKqmf36YDds?t=726

SM get 'Gene-wrought resilience' as a strat, which gives a penalty to wound if the strength of the attack is higher than their toughness.

Only restriction is an adeptus astartes unit, so naturally, it works on tanks. And all their lovingly spliced genes.

In the 10th iteration of the 41st millennium, names and nomenclature mean nothing.

Damaging a tank includes disabling the crew, so genes would improve your tank's resilience.

Yep. Wonder how often it has to be reminded cp is separate game mode. Different datasheets, enchantments, stratagems.

Zero evidence same stratagem is part of main det. Or if is doesn't have infantry requirement. No need for that when infantry is all you have

Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Dark Angels and Black Templar patrols as well as the current SM patrol all include a vehicle, remains to be seen if they will be supported and if they use the same Stratagems. Tomorrow is the SM variants article, we may hear something on it. Probably not, as these Stratagems are marked 'Strike Force Octavius' and might be confined to that single Patrol.

Probably for the duration of the edition, given that people playing it will be learning abilities with the same name that work differently (like Oath of Moment, which just rerolls hits in Combat Patrol, but hits and wounds in general play).

Its an odd decision, all told. I get not including rules for a basic vs advanced version of the game, but a game mode that simply provides wrong information for the other mode is an obstacle to play.

Isnt that assuming that Intercessors dont have any objective stuff? Sticky objectives seems likely. No idea on points though.

HOWEVER, the Combat Patrol from Leviathan does not include vehicles. If I recall correctly, it's all the Terminators (squad and characters) and some flamer dudes.

Not sure if this is sarcasm, but they were both rolling really hot. You can't say it's not less lethal after only seeing one battle report.

Ending with a mere 2 models to 0 sounds like a hard fought battle, not a wipe like often happens now.

Not really. There have been multiple editions where that often happened on turn 3 or even 2.

They were also deliberately feeding each other to show strats and mechanics off.
The tyranid guy even commented on walking his termagants into range of the pyreblasters before he did it, and the marine player dove his (already wounded) psyker right into the open mouth of the anti-psyker monster.

I mean they kind of have to do that a bit. Show off the potential destructive power of Overwatch etc. Shows how easy that can do damage if your opponent makes a mistake.

I had to mute my inner cynic and put them in a glass prison in order to watch that video. But once I did that, I sort of enjoyed it. It's clearly aimed at a semi new audience. Combat Patrol seems like my kind of game except for this whole "use just the box minis". That sounds daft, especially when some of the boxes just suck.

They had the tyranids win, so whatever their cynical advertising intentions, the sheer balls of making marines lose in the first inaugural 10th ed battle report is pretty hilarious.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Battle Report was finessed or even partially-scripted (and there's nothing wrong with that for an intro BR).

The end result of "Nasty Aliens win on a technicality while getting wiped out, two muscular child soldiers stand tall, surveying the carnage" seems appropriately designed/fine-tuned to the benefit of all sides.

I think it works out fine. You'll likely be using the regular datasheet cards when you play non-combat patrol games as a reference for units, at least for a while. That should help I don't think GW had a lot of good options to balance this otherwise.

I would not think of it as "Wrong information" more so, it's just the rules for this game mode and designed for this game mode. It's going to be different for a seperate game mode.

Don't worry, if you don't like your current combat patrol box, GW will be happy to sell you a new one when Chapter Approved / Warzone X starts dropping in 10th.

I personally like the idea of it and wish they had done thing (and supported it) earlier. Great way for someone new to the hobby to just grab a box and learn to play against (hopefully) another box which are also balanced forces.

Some people have long wanted a system where a starter box was a single faction that faced off vs an opportunity with their own single faction box. Now that exists with Combat Patrol. If someone didn't like the contents of a specific Combat Patrol vox before, this won't change anything for them, but it is straight upside for recruiting and training new players.

Or not.

I remember back in 2000's constant claim was new army always wins first wd report.

Well i went trouble of sorting out through battle reports and noticed win rate kept hovering around 50%.

So much for internet wisdom

Has anyone got any idea if FLGS are likely to have a decent allocation? I'd rather support mine if I can but the FOMO is real at this stage

Yeah, the batrep was quite difficult to watch even at under 40 minutes. Felt really scripted and I got unreasonably annoyed at them flashing up the rule description every time it was mentioned. After the 20th time of seeing Oaths of Moment I wanted to punch the editor.

I don't think they know yet. My FLGS has taken notes of interest but hopefully they find out what they'll get allocated before the pre-orders go up in a little over a week. If you're really worried you can always order from GW then cancel the order once your FLGS confirms their allocation.

Now if only they would actually do that on the greater scale and have the Marines lose a campaign. They could win battles and lose the campaign still against the Tyranids due to being left with insufficient strength to withstand the next attack so they are forced to retreat and give up ground despite ostensibly winning.
