Hi all,
So I'm relatively new to AoS, I played fantasy back in the day but took a break just before End Times hit. Recently had that itch to get back into things and dug out my Ogres/Ogors to jump in. Its pretty much all Gutbusters, with a Battle Standard, 4 Mournfang, and a Thundertusk as well (totalled it up to 4,500pts in the GHB ).
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on army building and play style for these guys. I hear big units aren't as important anymore, but Ogors have never been a big unit army. Can 3 man units of Ogors and Ironguts be effective, or should I aim for 6? Is shooting worth it? Is magic? Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty new too, so welcome fellow nublet. Here's what you want to do, first and foremost HAVE FUN.
As for army building, if you can get into a slow grow league or find people willing to play at lower point values, the best way to construct your army is 500 pts at a time. Maybe initially start with a smaller 1000 pt list, see if you have a friend that would let you proxy some of it. Play a few games, see what you like and don't like. See what play styles you enjoy the most. Then build around those play styles.

Also, yes, shooting is worth it. Units in melee combat can still fire during their shooting phases at other units or the unit they are engaged in (a double attack). Just keep those shooters protected as best you can.

Magic is a mixed bag, depends on which force you go with honestly. Some of those spells are pretty powerful but are very dependent on the unit. I'm still struggling if more units with smaller model count is better than less units with larger model count. I guess it depends on the unit type honestly.

So I primarily play Beastclaw Raiders but I have regular Ogors as well.

If i were you i would always include the Thundertusk and Mornfangs if you can, then Ironguts after that. Thundertusks now are back line artillery, you don't want them in combat if you can help it. If you have the Mornfangs modeled with great weapons, I think that is their best loadout, 3 damage is the best ever, every time they fail one save you deal three wounds, so you really capitalize on their bad luck.

Battleline ogors are not that great and I haven't come up with a good way to use them other than minimum squads, since even if you take a big block of them, they still just don't hit that hard, and you still have to take 1-2 more squads and they eat up your points.
