With 4th edition coming out I keep reading about how current players can swap out their old rule set for the new one. Does this also include the softcover rule book from the open fire box set? Or are those players going to have to buy the new rule set?

If you're talking about the old Open Fire book, iirc that's the same free copy of the v3 rules that they handed out when v3 was released. I believe that one qualifies.

If you're talking about the new Open Fire book, then probably not. The new one is a simplified version of the rules, and is technically a different (but very similar) game.

I'm from the future. The future of space

Flames of War has really retracted in popularity in my parts. So I started asking around where a free book can be had by showing your big rulebook. Closest store that is part of the program is a six hour drive away. :(

X-Wing has really clobbered painted miniature gaming around here.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Take a look on the v4 news page bud, not sure but I think it said they will cover the open fire book too. Don't quote me on that mind.
